This isn't true, you're not forced to interact with the renewal stuff and old gear is still good, you just have better options on some classes (prof, assa, sniper, gs and ninja in particular). Doesn't mean the old stuff isn't worth using, since most of the new stuff asks for lvl 90 base.

New World questline was part of Pre-re, the only other long quests you have to do are also from pre-re (Rachel, Nameless Island, Kiel, Nydhogg, and any other Dungeon Entrance quest).
The actual Renewal quests are honestly really short (Wandering Guardian is just one dungeon, RR main quest is literally 15 mins or less and not necessary for doing anything in RockRidge, if you have already done RotWK from pre-re then Dicastes quest is also pretty short).

Not even mandatory to enter RR, but you talk to some NPCs, kill 3 9~13k hp fire-2 cows, then talk to them again, kill 9 more cows, then talk again. Can be done in 10 to 15 mins if you know the steps.

The one for the Eclage TP accessory is quite long comparatively, but you can get the mats for it in like 15 mins too. Also all these quests give like 1m exp each, so they're perfect for doing pre-trans and delivering after rebirth.

I like both, I like that most classes feel good on Ragna, and I particularly like Merch (and I know I'll love Alche) on CC-Ro.

If you use a 28k cost Mercenary you could kill 50 to 60 wolves at the same cost, in less time and make like 10 times the zeny back, and you actually do level at a good speed because they do kill stuff fast unlike you. Just have to make sure you do go to places that can make some zeny early like Payon Cave 2 or, like said, Desert Wolves.
