You're overstating that a bit. That happens to every tank with a turret basket (the Russian/chink ones instead just die, or at the very least lose their autoloader) in almost the same way. The M1s have the added issue of the wrongly modelled hydraulic pump fucking your turret rotation, but that really doesn't happen all that often, and if you're honest, most of the time a shot that fucks that gets at the very least your turret basket too anyways.

High tier is much, much simpler in terms of weakspot knowledge (lower front plate, breech, turret ring from the front, if shooting from the side nail the turret crew). Aiming/knowing when to push is also a lot more forgiving due to the stabilizer, and you no longer need to know your ranges since the LRF does all the work for you. How do I fight a mig21 bis in a F5E? I can't win a dogfight against them. The very few I do get to have without outside molestation.

Passive lines describes how you turn/roll in the dogfight. If you go for passive lines you just want to keep improving your relative positioning/energy speed, not go for shots. There's good videos on that, might help you a bit.

Keep in mind that these sweaty prop 1vs1 tournament style duels mostly use the same plane. In fights like F-5E vs MiG-21bis you will want to vary your approach depending on the strenghts of your plane. The F-5E having better sustained turn performance for example means that the longer the fight lasts the bigger your advantage becomes, so picking passive lines is advantageous as long as the enemy doesn't run.
