This patch feels kinda miserable, gameplaywise.

I'm a shitty Ivy player, but I've had some real fun playing her up until this patch.

Feels like the general idea for the game is just to shoehorn certain characters into definitive roles instead of keeping it more flexible and allowing heroes to spec into either gun, spirit, or hybrid builds. Which is imo where the fun is.

Like having the ability as, say Viscous, to also spec into gun and CC/debuffing enemies.

I mean some tryhard sweats will always solve the meta builds, but is it too much to ask to have viable alternatives for many characters?

absolute shitter detected. it's the best anti-initiate ability in the game. if they're abrams tries to charge in, use knockdown, or whatever CC on you, you could just stomp. that is incredibly power, and way too powerful to allow this character be a gun carry on the level of wraith/infernus/haze. it really doesn't matter if you "miss" it or not, it has other uses.

infernus and mirage are allowed strong guns despite the fact that they already inflict effects that deal extra damage and have ridiculous mobility and CC (teleport, dash/tornado)
vyper is allowed a strong gun with infinite ammo and mobility
lady geist, mcginnis, kelvin, dynamo and seven have strong weapons despite the fact they also have really damaging abilities and/or strong CCs and AoE
ivy's weapon is complete shit even though her CC and AoE isn't even better than the named heroes, ult bomb is good but on a high cooldown (normal ability with charges and low CD for holliday btw) and stone form is good for the defensive qualities but the CC is extremely hard to hit compared to basically all other heroes mentioned so it rarely comes up outside flying in with the 100sec CD ult letting you combo into it if you hit the bomb
ivy became extremely passive over the months due to all the nerfs, there's literally no way to deal damage with her anymore, kudzu is pitiful and easy to get out of, gun does no damage, ult combo falls off past minute 20 and requires teammate follow up to do anything, even her melee damage is arbitrarily lower than all other hero's melee, all you can do nowadays is try to engage and hope there's someone else there to actually kill whoever you are engaging with because you don't do any damage

They did nerf the sustain. And it still has half of the conditional. The draw of Fortitude was always that it let you continue to have map presence, jungling and keeping waves pushed, without having to pull back towards base. It still does that, but you have to consider a little more whether that is useful enough to warrant a slot for your character. Before, it was just free stacking damage on top of that map presence, so no one had a reason to say no.

I agree that having build diversity on heroes is fun but inevitably there will be better heroes for fulfilling certain roles, might as well balance around the desired "role" of a hero, since leaving other options viable tends to make the main one even stronger (hybrid ivy primarily focused on support could still do decent DPS). Ivy was able to be a great gunner with solid utility which was a bit much, something had to be toned down and there's already 5 dedicated m1 carry heroes. They could have nerfed her abilities instead but it's clear that she's a "support" and there's more of a need for a util oriented support than another m1 hero. The new item system also helped to homogenize builds which further limits build variety. I too would love having more options but it's hard to balance, id honestly just recommend messing around with "unviable" builds on an alt and just having fun.

You forgot your doomposting image. I do think your critique applies to something like an MMO but Deadlock has a very good core gameplay, graphics and skill ceiling. My only real gripe is the giant skill ceiling. If this game goes public with a good release the amount of beginners flooding in will be STOMPED by people who have played in the alpha, to the point they won't be able to have fun.

The game needs incentives too for the casuals to enjoy, like cosmetic grinds, seasonal passes and so on. Valve will most likely follow how they did it in Dota which is boxes and skins and tourneys and events. The problem with Dota was that there was no hook for the casual. Collecting skins and casually playing in Dota 2 is fun, but in Deadlock it is a fucking nightmare due to it being a shooter and people who play shooters are toxic as fuck and known to constantly smurf and grief beginners.

The graphics might also deter the more public audience because it doesn't have sex appeal and features nothing but minorities as characters and a setting that is cool for the older audience, but a typical zoomer or younger faggot generation has no interest in. They want colors, explosions and not hard gameplay. Deadlock is hard to play and frustrating at times with the controls and the map is a clusterfuck of obstacles.

I bought anti heal, for the record, and kept asking other to do the same. But yeah there are issues with melee no one disagrees with that. Sometimes that shit will hit you from across the fucking street. Missing a parry is almost as punishing as getting parried which isn't really fair as people can do a full 180 during a melee swing. A lot of the time, the only way to lose a situation is getting parried, so it's often better to not melee at all unless you have to

Learning a new hero: Bebop.

Spirit: I tried the echo shard build at first. I don't like it. The fumbling of double bomb is no fun and once it's over, you're kind of done too unless you got some sneaky items up your sleeve. I don't fancy suicide attaching to get up the % either.

Gun: I love this build on him. Can go toe to toe with right items against most carries and his abilities fully support gun build. I do struggle with what item to get after Siphon to maximize damage, but Lucky Shot and Vampiric let me hold left mouse forever.

Result: Ult is fun, great for early game big camp farming. Hook is amazing and learning it requires many games. Bombs are meh but can do funny shit with them and the uppercut is fun with hook as you can just turn the fuck around and send someone behind our lines. Just gotta make sure it ain't Shiv or Dynamo into my team. Hardest thing has been trying to hook past team mates because many melee types get in the way.

Melee: Yet to try it.
