this mod creates xenogerms of every defined xenotype in your game so you can get one to turn a baseliner into a rat, but you'll still probably need to use dev mode anyway to actually find one, at which point you might as well just change the pawn's xenotype with Character Editor

but we got raided by four imperials, who dropped a lot of gear. plasteel plate armor, several high end rifles, armor, grenades, you name it.

all right, i tried it again.
Instead of fighting the centipede, i took out everything else at the cluster and let it it inche towards my base
well, i took a lot of damage because the auto-mortar started firing right away so i rushed in without building siege fortifications around the mech cluster. i didn't really have a choice since it would just burn my entire base down if i waited.

a few guys got downed taking out the cluster. then i organized a mixed melee-ranged defense at the base. i lost two soldiers including the goblin girl and i'll probably lose my slaves as well. one of the slaves got fucked by the centipede so i killed and butchered him, i don't know what the was going to crawl out of him but i can't survive another centipede.
I had to amputate some limbs, my main crafter is catatonic, I botched a surgery on a slave and he died. Animal slaughter mental break is the least of my concerns It's a rough spot.
Of course right afterwards there was a combat supplier with M72 LAWs. Just a few days late... a dozen of those to the face and the centipede wouldn't have been so cheeky

I would like to offer my apologies. For the last 700 hours in this game I have shunned reload any time mode. I have considered those who use it to be cheaters who only want to play the perfect colony and save-scum away from any negative events. Doing a run with it on has truly opened my eyes. Without the fear of losing colonists to dumb stuff I am experiencing more of the game than ever before. I'm raiding without fear of my helpless pawns left behind at the base getting slaughtered by enemy raids. I'm not using a killbox as if a massive raid is thrown I can simply reload and strengthen my defences to match. No more difficulty spikes when there is a lull in raids but constant uptick in wealth. I'm honestly playing far smarter with combat since I can actually be aggressive for once. This is magical.

Odyssey will probably add a lot of options for themed playthroughs. Looking at the preview pictures alone gives me inspiration for one or two themes one could go for. I wonder if it's possible to survive as a baseliner in the new scarlands, for instance. Or how well the new animal training works, if it's feasible to stay mostly in space, how well the mushroom jungle works with the darkness meme and so on.
