Mesoamerican history nerd here, I'm not sure which wandering god you're thinking of, but I do think Mercurymon is specifically based on Tezcatlipoca: The move where he uses his knife (called "Aztec") to tear open a hole to the afterlife and summons spirits to attack is similar to how obsidian mirrors (which Tezcatlipoca is associated with) were used for divination, and more damningly, Mercurymon has a mirror on his chest, much like Anahuatl pectorals a few gods wore, but especially often Tezcatlipoca also

However, Mercurymon is associated with Jaguars, not wolves: If Mercurymon had a Jaguar style helmet and fur clothing instead of wolf/Garuru ones, then he'd honestly be a pretty decent Tezcatlimon, though I'd also want him to have one of his lower legs and/or feet be skeletal or a serpent (if they still wanted to stick to the Mercury theme, they could have it replaced with a Caduceus with serpents twisted around it) and less generic Native American bits, more authentic Aztec fashion/ornamentation even if still filtered through Digimon's aesthetics, etc

What's wierd is how eh Mercurymon, Coatlmon, Garudamon, El Doradimon etc are with their Indigenous theming and then Tlalocmon is unironically one of the best researched adaptations of anything from Mesoamerica in pop culture, and I'd hazard to guess is the best researched Digimon that's ever been designed in terms of how it uses it's real world mythological influences. What's ironic is that Tlalocmon doesn't actually look almost anything like Tlaloc or stuff that actually directly resembles Aztec clothing, he manages to be well researched almost purely based on symbolic ties and more abstract iconographic references

Goes to show how you can do something well researched and interesting without being even vaguely accurate if you're smart about it (which 99.999% of media depictions of Mesoamerican stuff isn't), tho I do wish he still had a bit more actual Aztec garments

The TCG since that's what got me back into the series for the first time since I was a wee lad. I am immersing myself in every part of the franchise though. Finished building my Beelzemon kit today and my MetalGarurumon kit arrived just moments ago. I'm playing Cyber Sleuth (currently on Chapter 6) and have World 1 to play next. Is the plot of Savers underrated? It gets written off as a dumb fun action show (and it sort of is), but the setup has way less childlike wonder.
The Digital World is treated less like a fantasy adventure and more like a sovereign country that humans have to meditate with. DATS is there trying to keep the peace between the dimensions and monitor threats. They are like the Hypnos, but instead of deleting rogue Digimon, they ship them back home (hence the name "Savers"). Until Kurata decides to wipe them all out, and forces Yggdrasil to declare war on all humanity in retaliation. It's the first time we see the Royal Knights as a proper organization guarding Digimon's interests (Sleipmon watching over DATS for the entire show was pretty cool).

Well I finished Digimon New World. For a little Pokemon Essentials game but with Digimon it ended up being pretty fun. The dev did a good job implementing recruiting digimon to File City. It was nice that it wasn't a 1-to-1 recreation of World 1's File City, so when I would get digimon to join it was a surprise on what they would add to the city still. They also didn't go overboard with materials you need to collect to upgrade some things, and upgrades you needed to make were few and far between so it didn't feel tedious.

Storywise it was basically Digimon World, but with a Pokemon style evil team. Some moments were interesting, but I don't think it really added or detracted from the overall game.

Gameplay is just Pokemon, so if you like the one vs one style of combat or not is going to depend on the person. I personally don't mind Pokemon's combat, so I found it enjoyable. Enemies give out decent EXP so it never felt grindy.

My biggest complaint was the complete lack of direction. At times you'd be told to go find digimon to recruit, but you've already explored every area. Then you do a lap around the entire map just to find a new cave entrance has appeared in an area. Even World 1 had NPCs and Shellmon's bulletin board to give you a bit of direction.

Overall I had a good time with it and I'll recomend it to anybody that likes Pokemon's gameplay.

Also pic related is my team. There were basically no Megas/Ultimates in this game, so it let me play with Ultimates/Perfects I wouldn't really get to use in more modern Digimon games since fully evolving is pretty much a necessity.

lifespan is barely an issue. the real problem is that the game is fun only if you know what you're doing. if you're just starting out you're gonna fumble a lot because there's no feedback on whether you're doing well or not. it's not helped one bit by the lack of info (e.g. slots being more efficient than regular training despite being rigged, fatigue mechanics, what constitutes a care mistake, what to do to evolve and how priority works, elemental effectiveness)

I'll admit that the game certainly has some design flaws (e.g. learning techs of your secondary specialty in combat has much lower chances of succeeding, and for your third it's an exercise in futility. the way the game works murdering modokibetamon over and over is preferable to fighting stronger foes if you want to fulfill bonus evo conditions. evolving into sukamon disables stat gains from evolution until death or reboot), but writing everything into a guide ruins the magic, not to mention that it'd be a moot point since casuals hate reading and have the reading comprehension skills of a 4th grader
