It's genuinely frustrating trying to watch 40+ minute videos essays that overexplain, use too many similar examples, go on unrelated tangents, and flat out repeat talking points in multiple sections.
All with unrelated b-roll gameplay in the background.
Not only do they waste time, they often dilute the thesis with fluff.
Of course there are videos that warrant a long length, particularly videos that go into the history of a video game or whatever, but the majority videos longer than 40 minutes can be drastically shortened with more time and writing ability.

Unfortunately, YouTube directly incentives longer video lengths, so this meta isn't going away.
It's frustrating because I personally try my hardest to condense videos to make them more entertaining and substantive.

One of the big wigs (you know the type, desperate to break into the games industry, always talking big decided to “borrow” a concept from a UK professional who used to legit make Workshop items. Not even a subtle lift, just enough tweaks to sneak it past Valve and got accepted into TF2.

And for a moment, it worked. Got his item in. Probably felt like a genius.

Fast forward a few years: guy starts applying to studios in the UK, expecting to ride off his mountains of Workshop items like a golden ticket. Except nothing. Crickets. Total radio silence. The Eyelander is not significantly overpowered in general TF2 gameplay. Yes, the Eyelander has pretty powerful upsides, but they're granted -as a reward- for doing well, and securing multiple kills against an opposing team. The Eyelander's upsides are not something that is deployed immediately - in fact, the Eyelander is a objectively a direct-downgrade initially, and only becomes more powerful when you're performing correctly. And I think this is perfectly fine for balancing. It doesn't break the game, and it isn't overpowered. Getting 5 kills as Demoknight is not an effortless feat. The average Engineer, Pyro, Heavy can easily shut you down. The fact that casual is full of spam and groups of enemies can also screw you over with minimal effort. It's nonsense to suggest that Demoknight is absurdly overpowered, even with 5 heads. Let's break down a few of these complaints. He has more health than Heavy? Well, that's only for specific damage types. He's still very vulnerable against Engineers, Heavies, and focus fire. Everyone knows how quickly Heavy can lose his health-pool, and Demoknight has to get up close to people to even do damage. Plus, I'm not sure about you guys, but I don't see Medics pocketing Demoknights barely ever. Something which, on Heavy, grants 450 health, and auto-healing, for free, all for clicking the mouse. That's far easier and far more powerful than the Eyelander having to kill to be rewarded. Faster than a Scout? Demoknight can't double jump or carry a gun. The idea that Scout is just a free kill for Demoknight is completely ridiculous. It's a fair match-up. An Engineer pressing his keyboard twice can shut down a Scout infinitely harder than a Demoknight that has struggled to reach peak potential. The Eyelander is not too strong. It's a perfectly balanced weapon, and it has its own identity in the game as an iconic, defining weapon for TF2's most interesting and well represented subclass.
