I also had to use it first time today. From what I can tell, charge lance -> sword always fail since enemies panic boosts away faster than I can follow up. On the other hand, sword -> lance hits really well.
So, I charge lance, if in range of sword, attack while charging, finish with a second lance. Otherwise it's just charge lance hit and run, repeat.

I did so good with luminae. While finishing the quest i got like 6 kudos for healing everyone and i healed over 500k dmg a couple times

why does corruption mode wind mode turn off lock-on? That seems way better defensively in most cases than the extra energy

No they're not. The AI input reads to well and thus you have to resort to the most boringly optimal play and abuse the AI's dumb strategy. Take the AI Welkin. As either Alysnes or Panther you can't use aerial stabs because the AI reacts to your up boost by immediately boosting up and attacking to trigger a clash. So you just passively play counter attack by hanging at the range that will trigger Welkin to brainless charge you, and repeat until the Welkin is dead.

Just started today, but Falcon, Skyraider, and Narukami are my favorites so far so I've been practicing with them. I am currently maining Luminae. Once you realise that you can be more than a healbot, everything changes. I can stall Welkins and Stellaris on the node, I can chase Aquilas and Falcon and put them down. This is actually fun and sure I do this only if situation allows me, a well-being of my team is above my personal gain. But executing people with Luminae is so satisfying. Also, Luminae in Mashmak is a beast, maybe I will share some thoughts of it one day.
On the other hand, I want to learn how to play other mechas. I really like Stego, Serenith, Panther, Hurricane. Many would say that I can just pick those and go, but I don't think anyone on high elo wants a suicidal noob on any of the mechas above in their party. Works fine but you need paddles if you want to keep aiming/look around why using aux weapons and/or boosting, something is inevitably going to be on the face buttons.
Or using gyro like I do.
The game is 90% lock on based but manual aiming is a factor sometimes so you'll have a slight disadvantage there.
The mouse has reverse accel so actually sticks have faster camera controls, that's one thing they do better. Of course with gyro I get fast turning + mouse-like aiming and it's amazing.

depth of field mostly depends on what you're going for, it doesn't always need to be that dramatic but having a small amount will help your character stand out from the background.
Lighting is a must if you want it to not have that flat look that video screenshots can have. I generally position the light close to the camera but off to the side to keep the character lit up but still show some shadows.

I may be stupid. On beta we could research Mashmak weapons, now this option is gone. How are you supposed to procure weapons? Mashmak shop does not offer every available option, this sucks especially when you need melee stuff. In my lastest Mashmak runs I barely found any weapon stashes, not to mention that no one had swords. How are you supposed to obrain them? Just luckshit it on site or am I missing something? Please, I just want to farm my paints...
Also, 1vs1 Lumine can shit on any sniper if you have an option to get lost out of their sight (even a small hill can help a lot). Narukamis can be fought in open areas though. With swords you can just lock on them and chase them till they drop dead, gladly your second skill gives you infinite energy to stay afloat.
