It’s more like when merged you can switch between regular mode, and wanderer mode.
Their discipline levels will be different IIRC, but the levels for all other skills is shared between them.
So if you have both a good play is to level their heal first, and use Wanderer because of her better innate passives and then eventually level regular’s Discipline.

really early on, books and one of the daily missions give you an xp boost, other than that, it's just fighting in dungeons.

Don't care about stockpiling books, they provide the biggest power spike early on, so use them as much as you want
There are specific points where you can "XP grind" but it's not required at all. Casual leveling through the content usually prepares you handily for the final boss of the area. The rest will come with game knowledge and better gear that you will get overtime.

Manual grinding is painful and not worth it, your main party will hit level cap just by going through the dungeon as long as you aren't intentionally avoiding fights.
Every abyss has it's own exp grinding dispatches where you can send chars to.
If you really want to grind, get 2+ mages with the AoE la-spells and take the multi-wave quests where you can back out and reenter, like the 'scent of the greater warp one' in abyss 1 or 'repel enemy forces' in abyss 2.
If you haven't even completed abyss 1, just learn to play better.

It depends on the character/ability. Some characters have weak Disciplines so you can eat them for their Inherit Skill. If you have no desire to use a particular character then don't worry about Disciplining them.

Skill inheritance > discipline > skill upgrades
It's mostly a case by case basis, some unique (legendary char) skills lose too much damage/effect to bother inheriting with, mostly unique (legendary char) active skills, and discipline at the end of the day, is a fairly minor stat boost. The only reason I put skill upgrades last is because skill books exists and tend to be drip fed at a decent rate. I got like 1k exp (10 dupes) worth of skill books though I started early and haven't spent a single one. Skill upgrades do actually have pretty substantial effects, way more than discipline, though again, you get drip fed skill books.

Seems good, but this is with me getting freebies from the event fucking up. I only cleared the first three quarters myself. So I'm wondering if it might be better to skip the bones and blacksmith thing to ensure I can afford all the skill pages next time, since I think I read currency carries over.
Not really sure how the blacksmith thing works but I don't think I value it that highly. I skipped the fighters ring too (though I'd have went for it if I knew it'd turn into 500 gems)

ideally you want to do it more than once, D6 - D9 legendaries are very strong however you wont get that unless you paypig most likely. if you end up pity rolling a character, a regular named will be stronger, do not underestimate regulars with high discipline

however legendary skills cost less to rank than regular skills

it varies, I would put alice inherit on everyone who buffs / debuffs if I have the option
I put astral break on my D9 amelia and it hits less than HA3
I put sheli inherit on MC and I have not seen it proc once, and I took it through old castle twice

for an example if you like Alice and have a lot of Alice dupes, I would discipline her since she likes the HP increase and then use the skill books to improve her passive
it varies per character, I wouldn't use books on Yeka for example

You don't even have to go that far since Benjamin is busted. Chloe has a useful passive and her inherit is not all that great so disciplining her is logical. She then straight up mogs Abenius with like 180 extra HP and like 40 more SP and more stats (except Luck, and that's only if you didn't luckmaxxx her). Both. Enemy scale to specific caps. For example begining abyss first time is up to 20l , then up to 30lv outside goblin cave that is plus 10 extra. Usually it increase after grading. Most power come from om the gear when levels are mostly affecting HP MP SP pools and skills available.
In general scaling is not issue and you will be grateful for extra exp.

Reason I'm asking because in HSR near end-game I remember doing a "grade up" (equilibrium upgrade) and the enemy levels shot up and for a while I was completely cucked, because suddenly I wasn't even close to being able to beat some required story boss(es).
So if I grade up at the wrong moment, can this happen? I tried to search the guide webpages for more information but this doesn't seem to be talked about.

Spears are for hitting a row farther than you otherwise would, not for top damage. If you want damage, in general you put on a 1H Sword and stack ATK which benefits from being added to both hits. Two handers are generally considered mediocre because they're only decent while your ATK is too low to penetrate the enemy's DEF with a multi-hit weapon and you're losing out on stats from holding a shield.

I think Axes should apply a 1 turn long status condition (not a debuff because of the 3 debuff limit) that reduces the enemy's defense, so you could set up with one attack with an axe and then the others that could take advantage of it with the right speed control.

So from Bugen's skill list, what I get is that Samurai is a berserker class.
They have a passive that makes physical attacks scale off both ATK & MAG.
Skill wise, they have a heavy attack equivalent, a offense mode that boost skill damage and MAG but increases damage taken, and a heavier attack only usable in said stance. They also have a Iain stance that basically functions as a counter/delayed attack.
In terms of magic all they have are spells that imbue their katanas with one of the 4 basic elements.

I would SPD max for evasion.
Her unique skill (if you get to use it) can only be used once per battle and gets cancelled if she takes damage. You absolutely do not want her to get hit, and SPD boost evasion.
Female air beastfolk is also the highest SPD sex/element/race combination so I think it's intended.

So what's the BP spread for Samurai? Too early yet? With ninjas I bricked myself early by putting everything into Dex. Samurai don't seem to need Luck because they don't need Counterattacks or Followe Ups, so it's probably Speed or Strength since IQ seems like a gimmick.
