I finally played through all of 2nd Scenario last night (it was my 7th route I think) and I liked the route itself but it's such a weird experience with other context. It seems like an open secret that it's supposed to be the first route you play after the prologue (given the extra cutscenes, new credits theme, etc) but there's so many different ways you could fuck up on the way there, especially if you don't like all the characters equally. There's also a lot of railroading if you're better at the game than it expects you to be. Then by the end I kept thinking about how everyone dying is all Takumi's fault.But I think that's the point, which is why I'm satisfied by it in that sense. I'd be let down if this was the only route I actually played though

I think it should be done early so that you don’t have that mystery hanging over your head the whole time and finally know what’s going on, but also think it’s a bit rough of a 1st route since it’s so much longer than the others. Plus I think it’s the only other one that also requires you to manually go to the cafeteria, and then all the mandatory explorations. I saw a lot of people feel burnt out doing it first and be intimidated by the other routes because they don’t realize how shortened the others are in comparison and how they sometimes skip days. Feel like it also helps as motivation to try and find a happier end for everyone cause it’s such a downer

I think the exact order was Coming of Age>KG>Slasher( the actual slasher one)>BoC>Slasher(zombie)>Retsnom>2S. Depending on how I feel I might do the Eito ones next and maybe rebellion before i go back and do more of the routes required for SF,

The whole path there was a rollercoaster for me because I'm a Darumifag and I also think Kurara has some zingers so I was struggling to stay invested whenever there was downtime because half my fav characters were dead. I think it started off strong, then I kinda fell off around the whole Gaku/Kurara choice because that just seemed arbitrary. Then when Eito came back and started acting cartoonishly evil I was invested again. I forget if it happens before or after but all the actual stuff with the reveal and Yugamu almost killing Sirei was fun.The last portion was also very good except for the fact that I lost the boss battle once so I had to skip the dying words a second time around kek.

My big gripe is I just wish a large chunk of the routes didn't branch off of second. Feel like every one of those 3 that died should at least get two routes if you saved them, Otherwise feels kinda too "fate-y" if you know what I mean. For example the narrative kinda confirms Darumi's intrusive thoughts that she's worthless because like 60% of the game takes place with her dead

Yeah it sucks too because I think Darumi and Kurara could've had the most interesting reactions to the truth. Kodaka said she'd start cackling and break down crying and I would've loved to see that. Think 90% of my criticisms with 2S wouldve disappeared if they gave the prologue an actual ending. I get that it may have taken away from the reveal in 2S but it's not like this game is any stranger to repeating stuff. I've had to hear about brain parasites from like 3 different angles already and I'm still not done. Plus it would've been different enough.You wouldn't have the shion terminators but they probably could've cooked up another unique bossfight because iirc the sattelite is pissed at them. We could've learned more about that. I think (besides being cheap and killing off most of the comedic relief characters) they kinda wanted to do a trick where, okay, Takumi goes back in time but now the other half of the cast is dead. But it feels a bit unsatisfying because at least the 2S group have an ending. Prologue group is forgotten about unless it's expanded in dlc or a novel or something

just thought of a new dlc route scenario where picrel is actually possible

It's a new branch from Retsnom that diverts from the ending where Darumi and Takumi take Retsnom as it is, attack it and they black out on day 41. Afterwards when Retsnom has already ate the rest of the SDU, instead of killing themselves like in the ending, they instead take Shion and run away.

Basically a hard mode survival and horror route of trying to survive the retsnom in the ruins and base camps. Could also be a cool commander and Kamyuhn route since everyone now has to team up and survive and try to destroy that giant blob.

Some endings could be retsnom mindless consuming the whole planet with Darumi and Takumi (as well as the Kamyuhn and the remaining commanders, or any other civilians) on the escape pod, just Darumi and Takumi on the escape pod, or if the retsnom isn't destroyed before day 100 and they can't go to the satelite, it just shows a time skip a few or so years later

I guess I never thought about Yugamu being able to cure Retsnom, for some reason I thought it might've been a bit out of his league. Though it depends, I think around day 50-60, it was fused enough with her Darumi to the point Eito didn't see her as a monster. though I think she was still her normal self/still fully conscious/had her soul intact when she saved Takumi and poisoned Vexhness on day 71. So it was before the transformation was fully complete. I guess it also depends how retsnom was put into her (was it the whole creature plopped into her inside, just put in her right arm, or did the old man fuse it into her DNA from day 1, etc). From days 41-73, it was just her arm that was transformed as far as we know, though maybe the insides were also fucked elsewhere in her body, I don't know.

We know Shion's fire can kill retsnom, so it' possible with a mixture of Yugamu's medicinal knowledge and the undying flames, it can kill the retsnom from inside without killing Darumi even in late stages. I do wonder if it would cure her arm still. I can see her arm still being fucked and she can still produce liquids, it just the medicine and flame killed and prevented the retsnom from consuming her mind and soul and transforming the rest of her body. I do wonder if in that scenario, Eito would still see her as a normal human if her arm is part monster.

It was one of the first things I thought of as I was watching the horrors unfold because I played KG before Retsnom and I think as far as poison, medicine and anatomy Yugamu's probably one of the smartest SDU students aside from maybe Tsubasa.. That's kinda what I pictured, she might still get the Retsnom powers but a weaker version of it. Though now that you brought up her arm I had the fun mental image of Yugamu lopping it off and Tsubasa builds her some cool cyborg skeletal arm or something.

Speaking of I think it's pretty odd that the Revive-o-matic doesn't have a whole "restore from previous draft of body" setting. Sirei is retarded.

It also might’ve been as easy as killing her and bringing her back in the revive o matic. But that would have to happen before hemoanima stopped working on her, although it seems like once she reached full power she became able to use it again but at that point it would probably still come back Retsnom.

Really disappointing there’s no option to not want to be absorbed but to also not just jump straight to killing her. She was able to quickly make the tear or she already made it beforehand and just wanted to see if she could absorb them instead since that would be her preferred option. He really should’ve tried to talk with her more overall at the end rather than avoid her because she was making him nervous. She might’ve leaned into acting that way after seeing Takumi react to her negatively

They do mention having old information in Romance, since that’s how that route loses all the info from SF since Takumi and Hiruko get their memories only up to Date 3 from the machine being not completely fixed when it brought them back to life. Sirei blowing Darumi up did seem to imply it would probably get rid of Retsnom. She did stop doing battles pretty early into changing so maybe it would bring her back to a less transformed state?

even if there's no objective route order i find that with every route I play Takumi gets progressively stupider. Game doesn't help with that much. I would've rather we made sure she was okay instead of like 5 days of FREE TIME. It’s a pretty universal complaint of Retsnom that the relationship between the two just stops 2/3rds of the way through and then he just free times it up while thinking ‘things are okay…right?’. Also something interesting is during the scene where we get to talk to the real Darumi and she’s opening up about how she really feels just about every girl I’ve watched play it kept saying he should hug her then. Shame Takumi goes for the physical affection with Tsubasa but not Darumi. I can sort of see why though, they made it clear in other routes whenever Takumi was into someone but never really established if Takumi was also into Darumi romantically. They did thankfully make clear in 2 endings that she fell for him (early bad end and the We Are One end).

Takemaru just fully submitted to playing the game and cutting ties with anyone not on his team, only caring about the lives of his own team and no one else.

I think 'protecting your people' is admirable, but not when you downsize who counts as 'your people' when it becomes inconvenient. I can fully appreciate that he didn't want the twins to die, but he fully burned bridges with all his other friends in the SDU to make that happen. That's the fundamental difference between them. Takumi wanted to save as many lives as possible from the start, even the people who abandoned him and treated him horribly. Yeah it is unfortunate how Takumi and the player both have the mindset of ‘I’m doing this to confront the culprit and keep people from dying’ and it’s treated like it’s stupid he tried to do that. I mean, the result is pretty bad but it’s not like he was itching for a killing game. Maybe having Darumi trick half of them into showing up didn’t help either. Everyone seems to kind of ignore in the route the ‘I’ll kill anyone who doesn’t participate’ part. Even Takumi doesn’t use that as his defense.

Full SF BoC spoilers, but I do wonder if Hiruko hadn’t thrown Kako G into the KG/Mystery split, what would’ve happened? Sirei and Gaku would still be dead but Takumi would be cured. Just hang out till day 100? I have a feeling without another culprit though eventually they might find something that points to Takumi doing it with no other culprit to take the blame. The knife he shanked Gaku with has to be somewhere, although since he got knocked out mid murder maybe Hiruko got rid of it already.

He is listed first most of the time but not for Eva, Serial Battles, or Comedy. Considering he wasn’t supposed to do any other writing but had to I’d find it surprising (and impressive) if he was the lead writer for all the routes he’s listed first in.

Good writers can copy another writer's voice, and Hundred Line doesn't have much of a distinct voice for Takumi's POV. If you didn't notice Kurara or Gaku swerving in personality from one route to another, then you won't notice the mild differences in how many words Takumi uses, especially since the game has then been put through a translator.

A lot of people when talking about Coming of Age bring up best friend ending for Eitaku but. I also go insane over the conclusion they have in Bittersweet Youth. When Takumi is ready to spare Eito once again, and to just keep him locked up in a cage- and Eito kills himself. Because obviously right? Yes, he confesses his time with Takumi was the only happiness he ever had. But go back? Be locked up by the man who tried to lobotomize him? Of course he wouldn’t want that. In the end, Eito chooses his freedom over Takumi. Because quite frankly, Takumi does not deserve another chance with him or to act oh so benevolent for giving him that.

Tsubasa seems like the kind of girl who would cheat on you because your penis was too small to satisfy her, feel guilty about it, and then rationalize her actions by blaming you for everything and then breaking up so she can go date the other guy.

I recently revisited DR2 for nostalgia sake and.. remind me why people call Eito Nagito ripoff? They're like the complete opposite. Nagito kisses the ground his classmates walk on (up until you-know-what) while Eito hates everyone's guts just because they exist. I like doing comparisons since without Takumi’s time travel cheating Eito is a much more successful Nagito. Nagito couldn’t keep his facade up for more than a few days and then everyone was suspicious of him to the end. Then when Nagito did turn on everyone and essentially was like Eito seething every moment he’s around those that he hates the most, he also couldn’t hide that. Almost every line he slipped in some nasty comment to whoever he’s responding to after he knows the truth. I find Eito much scarier with how much he’s boiling inside yet can play off being overly nice and calm. And then he fucked everyone without luck powers to back him up and all his plans succeeded unlike any of Nagito’s. He’s also intimidating in being fucking gigantic compared to everyone else’s’ average heights.

Oh yeah, I’m pretty sure I was done with the game before I noticed the height stuff from the report card menu. Only looked into them after seeing the same chart I posted and then I went to check for myself lol. Because everyone’s spread out around rooms and talking to them zooms in to their upper half I never got the impression of most people’s heights. Yugamu came off as tall though and I figured Eito was around the same height as Takumi. I think Moko is the only one who does manage to come across as super tall, for whatever reason Takemaru never quite did despite him being even bigger than her.

Then after the first one no one wanted his help and also didn’t want to go near him so he didn’t get a chance to do anything else.
