Anon you have no imagination and what you view as the "game" is somewhat narrow. When it comes to Deltarune and Undertale we're not looking at a complete picture. Deltarune isn't finished and with Undertale we have an ending and info but no context to truly understand it.
So of course people are going to theorize and go wild with it. People love thinking up solutions to problems even if in the end they aren't right.

Also it's evident by the Spamton Sweepstakes ARG and Undertale itself Toby is willing to go crazy with the game and subvert expectations in a good way. So people are simply acting upon that as well.

The red flower is gold not because the red soul is still at large inside you, but because it's what asgore knows. The shard wasn't showing him things about the dessappearance or the roaring, but of what he becomes in Undertale, and that's what he's trying to protect us from.

The gold flower darkener (who is definitely not flowey no siree) will be the secret boss that knows a little too much, sure, but not because they have a shard. They just know from the Half-light soul.

My personal schizo theory:
Monsters' biology is almost exactly the same as humans. Outside of religious text, their souls in Deltarune are probably IDENTICAL to human ones if they even physically exist at all to begin with. They might not even turn to dust, either, and their "dust" may simply just be ashes from cremation. Noelle and Susie bleed as well and Kris likely has as well.
The reason for this insignificant schizo theory? Probably will be used to rip off Mother 3's end with Claus being put to rest with Dess/Knight. It makes sense to me given Toby.

I've beaten Undertale but I haven't played Deltarune yet.
The problem I have with Undertale is that its humor is so in-your-face and lolrandom that it isn't even funny. The best part of Undertale is its sincere story beats but they're few and far between the aggressive push for humor. Alphys posting on social media and calling fucking constantly gave me anxiety, I couldn't go two fucking steps without getting another update. I don't fucking care about Papyrus and his spaghetti.

I watched it yesterday and have been thinking about the idea of the Forgotten Man being basically the "secret" side of Toby. Him literally talking to us about his ideas on games and the creation of art, rather than it being some sinister big lore secret to be revealed.
The context of things obviously do still tie into Kris themself. MANCOUNTRY is clearly something from Kris' childhood, and the Art Therapy may well be something Kris went through before, but the actual words and actions around the eggs being more abstract musings from Toby just feels weirdly right.

The problem is that Deltarune is releasing episodically, which means that the general public won't care until it's fully complete. And "normal people" are in the general public, not the current fanbase.
Other people who were super invested into Undertale, like really really invested into it, will be there for each and every single chapter release. But those types of people tend to be weirder than the guys who are just waiting until it's finished. So, as of now, the fanbase is incredibly weird, because their emotional attachment to the games is a core part of their personality, instead of just being one of their many interests.

I've seen people say stuff like the Forgotten Man is some figure Kris saw tied to Dess' disappearance that he is mentally blocking with the tree. That's a neat idea and all, but like, the dude gives us eggs. He gets stuck in traffic. He is in QC's diner with some takeout. The eggs literally say they're "Not too important, not too unimportant."

It really feels like the Forgotten Man isn't meant to be some huge lore reveal waiting to happen. He's just an odd figure that almost seems to exist outside the normal logic of the game, similar to Gaster but less broken.
And the monologues he gives really do read like Toby musing about game creation as a whole. The Valentine from the Forgotten Man literally asks us how we're enjoying Deltarune.
All this could point to it just being Gaster himself, but if it is him it's a much more chill version. One that's more content talking to us about whatever. Though apparently meeting with him and getting an egg counts as an issue, so maybe it's not Gaster. It's not clear yet, but I think it's wrong to just rabidly look for the lore reasoning instead of considering what is actually being said/shown in those encounters symbolically.

The form at first is formless but quickly it shapes into a humanoid form, skin the same colour as the red soul, piercing eyes look down at Kris, they feel sick as they rest themselves onto Kris’s lap, the weight feels awful on their cold, clammy body. They lean down towards their face, their bright red skin reaching to gently cup their cheek, knowing full well that there was no love nor tenderness in that touch.

A whimper rises out of Kris, a small child who was overwhelmed, scared and wondering why this was happening to them. The soul smiles with twisted intention as they lean down to kiss them right on the mouth, feel the child’s jaw clench with disgust and discomfort. Still, the soul doesn’t care and forcefully pries their mouth open and slips in their tongue, entangling it with the other’s who whines and tearful whimpers are suppressed.

The soul’s hand slips under their sweater, caressing their cold, tender stomach, tears rolled how Kris’s hidden face, unable to pull away to the sensations messing with their body and tongue.

Kris doesn’t know what they did to deserve this but every night was the worst night of their life,

Honestly I think he's Deltarune's Gaster who isn't a supernatural spooky scientist but a (school) therapist that helped Kris with past trauma with Dess' disappearance or even before that, and the whole intro sequence isn't some grand scheme, but part of a therapy session to get Kris to accept what he isn't including the whole ending line about nobody choosing who they are in this world. While that worked, DT Gaster is still associated with that trauma that Kris has repressed and the egg scenes are equivalent to the FUN scenes in Undertale but with a more comprehensible narrative. The eggs are real enough that Susie can comment on Kris reverse stealing one in chapter 2, but not so real that they can persist upon close examination. The lines from a game over and from retrying the Knight fight also could be from these therapy sessions, used in a different context. The line about being connected and the survey aspect could mean that some of this therapy was done online.


I think he is just Deltarune's Gaster that played a role in Kris' past that wasn't as important as Dess disappearing or being adopted by the Dreemurs, but wasn't so unimportant that it's not worth mentioning. Having the intro cutscene be an online therapy session by a Gaster, just not the one we're obsessing over, might feel a bit of a letdown, but I think it works to re contextualize Kris' characterization.

If we apply this logic back to Undertale, Gaster's role there is to explain the CORE and maybe some of the determination/true lab experiments. The CORE is technically important for the setting, but not so much the plot. Entry 17 might've just been to tease the concept of dark fountains.

Hey all, SOUL here. I wanted to point out that Noelle is easily the best character. She combines Ralsei's pacification and healing with Susie's magical damage. Her magical power is in fact higher than Ralsei's at the same LV, making her the ultimate all-around mage. On top of that, she can wield the Black Shard, which has the highest attack bonus of any weapon. She definitely should be made to become stronger.

In this game? It'd be like the end of sans' fight where you need to move the ui. If the narrator/gaster controls our connection to his deltarune, then trying to sever our connection while we fight to keep it going via manipulating the user interface makes sense.
