NTA but after giving it some thought, it's the lack of effective foil for Phainon so seeing him just kill his friends to save the world over and over again (which gets tedious after the 3rd 'boss' fight) and acting all stoic didn't feel like the mental breakdown of someone that went through billions of loops. Anaxa stealing the scene for acting as a proper one-time foil to Phainon's stubbornness really goes to show how ineffective everyone else is at being the tard wrangler. It also shows how much of a filler the chapter was as it was filled with needless padding in the form of needing to see everyone die at least once to Phainon/Reaver if only to reinforce the fact that we know he had suffered, something we learned way early on. At which point, it was just drama for the sake of drama, nevermind how they put all the 'Phainon was emotionally dying on the inside with each loop' within the wall of text from the computer summary of the loops. Story-wise, it was fine but the execution of the story leaves much to be desired for.

But whenever a character they don't like is on screen, everyone rushes to write paragraphs about how horrible the writing is and how bad the characters are despite everyone else loving it and being a success in every possible metric.
It's not even just a HSR problem, happens in literally everything ever.

They've tried that. People hated it. Like, they've tried doing short stories in Genshin and HSR with people always complaining how the stories feel rushed or are too short which is why the story script always gets longer instead of shorter.
I think it's a good thing, every character gets their own patch to shine and everyone gets to enjoy story about their favorites. There's a skip button now too so the ones that want to treat the game like a slot machine and not engage with the story or gameplay can freely continue to give hoyoverse their money without anything getting in their way.

I already had issues with the pacing in Penacony being hurt by the various red herring distractions but Amphoreus drip-feeding and probably backloading the only parts of the plot that are important has me genuinely pissed off at the level of filler. Amphoreus would be about 8000x better if each patch covered the same amount of plot but was half the length and cut the pointless filler. The problem with Amphoreus isn't the payoff, it's that it has really awful setup and has pacing problems with how they try to sell you the banner character's sob story. Only Cipher has been remotely successful in incorporating her story into the central narrative. The reason Amphoreus was called a filler planet in the beginning is because it completely fails to setup the central conflict and reason why we're here. March was only recently unfrozen and we got maybe 0.001% of the storyline dedicated to her. THerta and her hijinks comprise 90% of the relevant information for Amphoreus but 0.1% of the storyline.

I have read VNs like Umineko/Higurashi (which is like 150-180 hours for each series), FSN, Tsukihime, Fata Morgana, etc. All of them are much longer than Amphoreus is, but they all keep me hooked. The words are straight to the point and easily followed, the plot is constantly moving and even the "yapping, slice of life" parts are told in a way that feels light and not tiring, the writing techniques (foreshadowing, metaphor, repetition, etc) are effectively utilized and never overused pretentiously.

Amphoreus doesn't have as many insane twists as some of the above series, yet the way it presents the story is so so long, tiring and dragging down. It would be me trying to reach the word count in my essay. So many words, so little meaning it conveys.

I've always held the opinion that they should have divided Amphoreus sub-plots more equally to lift off some weight that one may have. it really hurts that it's 80-90% on the planet with Herta and M7 fighting for the scraps. I think a lot of the pacing issues could be fixed by removing the genuine filler and replacing it with more Herta (Erudition) and M7 (Remembrance) to tie the 3 Aeons together nicely. Collab is "fine", it could have been better but it does what it wants to do and is charming enough. I liked the selection of masters, it was pretty short but also felt a bit bloated and I would have preferred it to be it's own seperate patch rather than just an event, but it is what it is. Saber is a good unit who performs in line with other top units, but is easier to build around, and Archer is one of the strongest single target characters while also being free.
It worked better than our event because it didn't feel like it was forcing the Fate setting like HI3rd/HSR felt like it was trying to force a connection between the two settings.
