For me though I usually just try to be pretty conservative with the railgun unless I really have to kill a ton of shit fast. Even before the colonies where ammo is abundant I never had that many issues with the ammo economy on the railgun just because I wasn't using it to kill every devastator I see. Ultimately they really do need to give the RG some more ammo and a better scope.

1. You have a primary weapon, use that to kill shit.

2. You can pick up ammo boxes around the level.

3. Despite what the weapon's damage profile suggests, it is not an AT weapon. It takes too much ammo to kill a single heavy from full health, even targeting the weak points, and heavies spawn at too high a density for you to attempt it anyhow.

TL;DR, use it to kill strong medium enemies, and don't try to kill heavies unless they've already been previously wounded by actual AT weapons. Three or four fully charged shots is something like 10-15 seconds of commitment from you, whereas an actual AT weapon can accomplish the same thing by taking a single shot in less than three seconds.

Orbital Plasma Barrage: Super Destroyer deploys a UAV that hovers over the target area and bombards it with Scorcher shots for 10 seconds. The UAV is mounted with four Scorchers that each individually target all enemies underneath it for that duration, and when depleted the UAV kamikazes into the biggest target in the area.

Orbital Plasma Strike: OPS style projectile that creates a massive plasma explosion on top of the beacon. Slightly less explosive damage than OPS and very small impact damage from the shell itself, but the radius is three times that of OPS.

Are you a user or are you a modder? If you're a user you just download mods when the modders upload updates. For me, I'm gonna have to patch every single of the mods I uploaded on nexus and 7 mods might not sound like much but Jane Helldiver has 6 variants and updating all the variants is going to probably take me like 2 hours of non-stop re-exporting everything and playtesting each update to see if something was broken AGAIN.
Previous mod-breaking patch changed B-01 vertex groupings on all pieces and I had to manually add new groups just to fit the new paradigm. That being said SDK takes like 2 minutes to export each armor.

Which weapon would you recommend for a new player to aim for?
I just unlocked the Liberator Penetrator, and it seems decent enough. Especially with the medium armor penetration so I don't have to rely on the LMG.
Also, will I not unlock any more pistols than the base one and the automatic one unless I buy a warbond? And if so, which one should I consider?
Loving the game so far, but there's a lot to take in. Especially when it comes to weak spots and figuring out what the objectives are and what to look for when my friends basically speedrun it so I don't really get the chance to learn.

If we're talking just the free warbond:

Punisher, it's really strong against bugs and squids since the knockback keeps them at bay.
Hellpod Space Optimization, it's the first booster you can unlock and unironically the best one in the game.
Liberator Penetrator, it's handy against bots since a lot of them will be protected by armor.
Diligence Counter Sniper, for the longest time it's been the premiere head clicker against bots, and is no slouch against squids either.
Scorcher, it's arguably the second-best gun against bots full-stop, even at the highest difficulty.

For support weapons:

Supply Pack is very handy at all levels, even if you don't use it to keep teammates topped up (though you are strongly recommended to).
Eagle Strafing Run is super handy in just about any situation.
Machine Gun Sentry is very basic but very strong.
Recoilless Rifle is the strongest AT weapon in the game, you won't really need it at low levels but eventually you will learn to love it.
Autocannon is a workhorse that's powerful at all difficulties and against all factions, unlock it early and learn to love it.
Guard Dog is another very strong stratagem, it becomes very useful at higher difficulties when enemy spawn numbers start to get out of hand.


For warbonds, you want to unlock Democratic Detonation , Steeled Veterans, Polar Patriots and Urban Legends in roughly that order. Don't bother buying any of the armor sets from the Superstore until you've unlocked access to most of the warbonds.

The last "good" warbond we had was Servants of Freedom. Even though the Integrated Explosives passive sucked, it more than made up for it with the absurdly broken DE Sickle and Ultimatum, and the extremely good but balanced Portable Hellbomb.

Borderline Justice had the Deadeye, but the Dynamite was trash-ish, while the Talon and Hover Pack were underwhelming. Gunslinger was meh at best, and is utterly broken right now.
Masters of Ceremony was just outright garbage on release, only the Pyrotech was actually worth anything. Even after the buff to Reinforced Epaulettes, it's something you can live without.
Force of Law was a mishmash of disappointment. Ballistic Padding is meh at best, the Pacifier is something of a disappointment, the De-Escalator has too many downsides to be good, the Arc Dog teamkills, and the Urchin is mostly worthless. Even the Warrant in the Superstore is still garbage.

I'm not going to get overly excited for Control Group before we actually get to use the weapons, but we've been asking for a plasma support weapon and laser sentry for a long while and they've finally delivered. A passive that revives you upon death looks really neat on paper, even with the caveat of forever health drain.

Most enemies have a head weak spot, you only need penetration. Use EATs alongside a "heavy" pen support weapon (HMG, AC, AMR, LC) and you should be able to kill everything. If even at low difficulties the game manages to overwhelm you then try the HMG emplacement

Light pen will absolutely make it a dead pick on bots however, the ap2 competition is fierce, any ap2 gun with low ammo capacity and presumably suboptimal ergo+recoil will be a very tough sell when you can just pack Amendment, Dili, or your favorite flavor of Liberator instead. I don't really think that's true, since recoil can be solved entirely by moving your mouse responsively, but ergo is a hard cap to how quickly you can reposition your weapon due to slower turning, similar to how a mech can only turn a certain speed regardless of your physical input.
If anything, reducing recoil is the path of convenience, which is why it tends to be the most common choice.
