They will, but you can still smack them with the direct hit. The key thing to understand is that this is the worst environment for you. Teams of 3 (or worse, 1) mean there's not going to be enough distraction to let you bomb with impunity, the fights are dynamic and your preferred targets are rare, and 1v1 you'll be at severe disadvantage against some of the most popular strikers. What you have to do to succeed is get the drop on them when they're weak or use confined quarters to force them into your aoes.

Depends on your robot. Statistically, the upside is always better than the downside, so two mods with opposing plus/negatives would result in a total plus to each stat.
For example with Falcon and Skyraider, I'd aim for Air Speed, Lock-On Speed and and Energy Regen (Air or base regen) to maximize buzzing around with the means to bug out. The downsides those mods come with are basically irrelevant for them since it's usually something like slower land speed or EN threshold.
For defense on almost any mech, I try to get two Energy DEF and one Ballistic DEF mods with a Repair Intake downside, as those two types of DEF are more common in Mashmak and the other two types are best off avoided.

With Purple and Gold mods, you're generally looking at many specs being boosted upwards to 1.3x its base, so it's hardly something to ignore, especially if you're going into extreme.
Assuming you aren't packing a lot of airdrops, you can easily stay under the Normal 2000 gear limit with most mod slots occupied by purple mods, so there's no reason not to gear up.

You don't open with lance. You open with melee and then confirm into lance. The aerial drop attacks are the best since they are unparriable, and pretty much always confirm into lance if you release as soon as you hit. One shots Falcon too which is neat.

For me it's not so much about bots as the fact that the bots are incredibly bad. Devs seem to think that as long as the bots are overtuned (0 latency, can hit through walls, virtually no downtime) everything will be fine. But the main issue is that bots cannot strategize; they are dumb as fuck, their movements are very predictable, and when you lose against them it's only because you have inferior bots on your team. This is also an issue in challenges. You lose challenges not because you don't know what to do but because the bots are allowed to see through walls and charge through pillars.

I’ve reached my breaking point, and I keep trying new mechs new out of sheer despair to see if it makes things easier. But I can’t really afford the luxury of first-timing anymore without basically being semi-afk.

Also, it’s worth mentioning that LP gains and losses aren’t balanced you gain far more than you lose, and there’s a lot of demotion protection. The climb should be made harder so that tryhards can reach the elite ranks, while those who prefer playing at a slower, more forgiving pace can stay where they are. It doesn’t make sense to reach the top tiers just by being semi-decent.

I've had the opposite happen to me. They were absolutely slaughtering my team me as I capped every time. They only got one dismantle purely on the virtue of wiping my team and only having me left to pile on. Once you hit high elo as Tricera, maintaining a positive K/D becomes nearly impossible. I dropped from a 2.1 to a 1.1 K/D climbing from Master to Champion, and my win rate fell from 72% to 60%. Seeing that the average Champion win rate is around 55% just confirms more suffering ahead. Of course I’d rank rank over K/D or win rate any day, but my mental has been shattered these past three days despite climbing, I became super toxic in chat.
