Is there a real time mystery dungeon out there or something?
>>530814112Cataclysm DDA's based on a mental ill person's perception of reality where commercialized identity politics are being actively promoted by individuals all over the country instead of by a handful of urbanites that make it their life mission to kiss billionaire boot, so no.
are we still arguing about Cataclysm
>>530814112play a fork that isn't DDA???
>>530814872I don't think there's any argument to be had that DDA is propagandist to an annoying degree, is there?
>>530814872How's the last generation? I've only ever played DDA
>>530814851It's just stupid, man. Like, a few sexuality flags here and there is whatever. But don't make this SS13. Realism isn't everyone wearing bisexuality socks and flying agender flags
>>530815565fuck if I know I stopped playing DDA years ago
>>530815649Last generation is a new fork, if that's what you're speaking to
>>530816606no I mean I stopped playing DDA a few years back and since I've come back I've only played BN, which is exactly what I wanted so it's fine
>>530815565Like every fork of DDA this late it lacks either the intention or the balls to cut back on the garbage, and TLG in particular is devved by a troon.
>>530816694What does BN offer over DDA? I usually only see vague things like, it adds back in the "fun" or is like old DDA. I've never tried it
>>530819635I don't care if a troon devs it. The roguelike fan and dev base has a hugely disproportionate amount of troons compared to other genres
>remembering that one time in highschool when one of the girls in my group said that she used to stealthly masturbate in the busy underground because it gave her a thrill but stopped herself just shy of admitting it publicly in front of everyone...
in catacylsm the next generation
>>530820021>things that definitely happened
>>530819635Kevin spent more than a decade weeding any form of critical thinking out of the dev community. Night_Pranik was the last person involved with DDA who wasn't a braindead bootlicker. There will be no useful forks of DDA going forward for that very reason, just cult splinters that broke off over discord drama because some troon's bloat PR didn't get merged.
>>530819971Pretty much everything DDA does but in half the key presses, and the pride bullshit is offloaded into a mod.
This weekend either I work on my roguelike or I roguelike myself
>>530819971>The roguelike fan and dev base has a hugely disproportionate amount of troons compared to other genresWhat a (((coincidence))) that in the last several years the only successful roguelikes have been slavic or japanese.

What happened to the last thread? why did all posts got deleted?
not a single post was about actual roguelikes
to continue from yesterday: is the dwarf berserker a boring class to play in TOME?
that's the only one ive tried so far
>>530827980I don't think it's boring just because you don't have to read several paragraphs in the description of every skill. Although it's not the easiest class to beat the game with in my opinion, your plan A is "activate immortality for 5 turns and bump things" and if that does not work plan B is starting a new character. Also there is another class that has the same immortality button and is better at bumping things so there's that.
>>530825384Qud is like 20 years old.
>>530829705I mean, it just went 1.0 to wide praise. What are successful recent roguelikes then
>>530819971>What does BN offer over DDA?BN is like cataclysm from 5-10 years ago but with updates. It plays very differently, the most notable thing being all the wacky strategies and weapons that were in the game at that time are still included. It's definitely worth a look but I have been playing TLG and enjoying it recently. If you want something that isn't as dramatically different from DDA like BN is then TLG is more like that.
>>530826751I dunno, I thought that was weird too, never saw it before. I assumed it was some kind of 4chanx issue on my end.
>>5308305541.0 on a 20 year old game with a ~10 year EA phase is practically a formality. Also, perfect scores from PC gamer and Eurogamer only amounts to this much? What a shame, what a shame.
>>530831224The core gameplay loop is almost identical in both games from what I've seen, DDA just has a dogshit UI and really stupid mechanics like holding tab for too long making your character's lungs explode and important looting QOL features being rendered borderline unusable because of pockets.
>>530831224what start are you playing?
>>530832023>untitled.png>has cat girls that you can milk>doesn't have cat girls you can milk>doesn't have cat girls you can milk
>>530832325>The core gameplay loop is almost identical in both games from what I've seenyeah that's basically true, what I meant was more the way you approach gameplay is very different. The controls and basic concepts are very similar.
>>530832492I always do prison because I like using prisons as bases. I was lucky in my current game where my spawn was a prison-lab too. You need to start with pretty high devices skill or lockpicking to make it tolerable though, so you can pick the doors to get out.
>>530830554Stoneshart, Soulash 2 when you account for the fact it's by one literalwho pole and not an entire studio that's involved with a weird pedo sex cult.
>>530832492Prison is practically free points and free killer drive. Oh right, I should mention that BN has Killer Drive.
>>530832626>be japanese>make good video gamesShrimple as that.
>>530832023Oh, quasimorph. That game is great. When are they going 1.0?
As for Elin, is there enough content to justify a purchase? I've been curious about it
>>530820186Yes. It was quite weird, but to be fair we went out to watch nymphomania part 1 (in the refugee center)
>>530831489Must've been a janny that got butthurt
Hunting with a dog is so much fun, holy shit.
>>530827980I'd recommend, no matter what you start playing as, to make it your primary goal to go for unlocks, it will give you the ability to play much more interesting characters, and are a much shorter term goal than beating that entire monster of a game. Here's the unlock conditions list, and one with reduced spoilers

>>530834153No janny is going to bother deleting all posts, it was most likely a bug, not the first time it happened
>>530827980Melee's usually less boring than ranged in TOME but I don't recall dwarf being all that interesting.

Bros...I expected this to be like a Nuclear Throne+Isaak+RoR with unique characters and cool items but so far it feels awful. Same characters, damage sponges, shit weapons, shit rewards for clearing rooms (no rewards), shit items (more like no items at all), no keys, no ammo. And all this with bullet hell cancer. It's so unrewarding and frustrating to play. Is this one of those games where you need to endure and clear it at least once to unlock all game changing fun stuff and mechanics?
>>530841773>Is this one of those games where you need to endure and clear it at least once to unlock all game changing fun stuff and mechanics? We call these notaroguelike here
I'm getting a bad gateway error on the OP pastebins.
Am I missing something?
>>530841773The only thing that's really a direct upgrade in EtG are the secret characters, who they never bothered balancing, so I consider using them cheating, otherwise no, the game is just really hard.
>>530826751I don't know but when I checked before going to sleep there were two people arguing for hours that singlehandedly pushed us like 100 posts past the bump limit
>>530845109It's probably the hipster pastebin site going offline. I can't even remember when that version of the OP was made so this may be a good chance to make another if it doesn't come back pm
>>530847157likely it was about DCSS or CDDA, those game really need their own generals, all other talk here gets drowned out by arguments concerning one of those two games.
Ok I'm going to Dreadfell next, which people say is really hard, so any tips?
>>530848645A DCSS thread has been tried before but people just come here anyway. And the gachashit has overrun this board to the point that neither thread would survive if discussion was split
>>530841773Not a roguelike but I will say you should be playing that game with cheat engine on 1.5x or 2x speed because the pacing is total dogshit.
>>530848832Fuck on my way to dreadfell (like 3 tiles away) the godfeaster event happened. I'm minimum level for it, level 30. Do I accept or reject it?
>>530851464I never do it because it's full of enemies that disable all your sustains
>>530848832Make sure you have track (body armors and lanterns sold is shops sometimes have it) and use it often. Some cuck tunneling on the last level to prepare for the master can help if you're not against that sort of thing.
>>530852058Since writhing one doesn't need a lot of generic points, when leveling awhile ago I swapped to a bunch of cunning gear only when doing the levelup, and wound up putting 3 points in track, which gives you a decent radius even when you have very low cunning. and I brought a pickaxe, because someone earlier mentioned the tunneling strategy when I was about to fight Urkis. I brought some darkness resist gear in my backpack in case it was necessary, but it was just a guess, I'm not sure if I need it.
what's an ezmode ranged weapon combo (that's not minotaur)? I want to pew pew
>>530865820Spriggan. You can't play them completely mindlessly because they have very low HP but they also move so fast you can reliably kite enemies and walk away from most fights
Bright nights kinda sucks
got an itch to play a roguelike now but like usual i'm indecisive about which one I wanna play. torn between ToME, Elin and coop catacombs
>>530871369I've been on a crazy ToME streak recently, been playing it basically nonstop. Don't have Elin yet, and haven't even heard of Catacombs.
in RoR2 is Aurelionite's blessing supposed to melt your PC if you are playing engineer or was it a weird item combo that made enemies drop a gorillion treasures per second?
I maxed out my Strength and Magic on Writhing One, what stats do I level now? I feel like it should be constitution, because I feel a bit squishy once my damage shields from shed skin and shatter afflictions are gone (at 691 max health atm), maybe some dex because I still miss things occasionally, Online guides say cunning is important but I already have a good track and I'm critting a lot already. And obviously willpower won't do much except improve my mental save so I shouldn't do that.
>>530873032I never got too into tome but I've had fun the handful of times I did play it. Elin is cool and gets updated fairly frequently but I haven't played in a while so i'm behind on what's new. coop catacombs is in the OP, it's a roguelike dungeon crawler with some pseudo multiplayer elements like dark souls style messages from other players and the ghosts of players who died haunting the floor the you're on
Mental health is a no-brainer dump stat for any self-respecting rogueliker.
>>530874165We don't get to decide out own dump stats, god decides them, and for me he decided charisma.

The only thing I can figure is that it was easy for some characters to just straight die with no way to recover? But I rarely ever had that happen.
Fire staff and an un-upgraded Fireball is all I need. I'm not sure that I like the direction of making early game items absurdly powerful in this game.

>>530827980Wyrmic is a decent melee class, you start with the fungus skill tree so your defense is pumping max hp and out-healing damage done to you
There are dragon breath skills but they are a trap. Wyrmic's main draw is melee skills that hit in an AoE, and while hitting multiple enemies isn't the most useful thing in ToME you can hit things without wasting turns walking up to them
>>530873829All characters want cunning lategame because all characters want to crit
Accuracy you can get from gloves, juggernaut gloves are the other kind to look out for, or just scan everything you get for accuracy bonuses, it's usually near the top
>>530892274Staves are the only real case I can think of where one item is a gigantic power spike. The rest are pretty moderated in their power levels. Summoner shoes are good too I guess but they don't scale all that well.
These boss levels are dumb. Thanks for wasting my time with this shit. No I don't want to get ass raped by a 99 range mega troubler and the beast king of inferno who shits out ultra durable spawner fiends with 14 range.

Best mods for CDDA? Looks like Blaze doesn't work with the latest experimental
>>530911097I'm playing it right now and it's pretty good. They made huge balance changes to almost all of the relevant meta armors, even changing the layers of some of them. They increased encumbrance across the board too, I'm trying to figure out the most efficient setup. Looks like maybe chainmail + boiled leather.
>>530941932It also allows you to throw enemies, and makes certain mutations into actual body parts (like hooves which replace your feet and prevent you from wearing shoes)
>>530948842>It also allows you to throw enemies,I tried that, but you must need crazy strength or something because I could barely do it with 11 strength. maybe it isn't working right yet or maybe they intend for it to be an end game mutant thing when you have a million str.
>>530834793post more of this game please
>>530949627Depends on what youโre trying to throw
>>530950512it was just a random zombie.
TLG does have debug its just out of the way in the keybinds. Slightly annoying but not as bad as I thought.
Just entered the level, no chance this escort lives
>>530950649After playing it for a while I have some complaints with it. I don't know if they want it this way or if it's just a consequence of the version they forked from, but that annoying thing where you can't cross vehicle tiles if they have a certain amount of volume in them is still in this version. It was annoying enough to be removed from even DDA, so hopefully they get rid of it in TLG too.
Also they nerfed armor hard in more ways than one. There are basically zero good 100% coverage armors in TLG, there are barely 100% coverage armors in general. On top of that they increased the encumbrance on almost every piece of armor by a lot while reducing the armor value they have at the same time. You are way, way more vulnerable in melee in TLG. And on top of THAT they made acid absolutely brutal, it corrodes your armor now and quickly. Fighting with a single acid zombie will chip all your exterior armor, to the point where you will need to be stopping to repair your gear even more than you have to in current DDA which is beyond annoying.
The weapon balance is also questionable, maybe it's intentional on their part, but it seems to me that they cut out all of the hardened/tempered etc. forms of weapons without adjusting the stats of the basic forms of those weapons, so like a random machete you find is just as good or better than a medieval sword that requires extensive crafting capability. And it seems like once again combat knives/bayonets are effectively the best weapons because of that.
Captcha related, kinda seems like they want you too shoot everything as it stands. Except they also cut ammo availability by like -90% vs DDA lol.
>>530965986motorcycle reach attacks and archery still goated?
I'm retarded, what do i change to make allies display health bars instead of numbers?
>>530969820I haven't personally tried motorcycles yet but I don't see any reason why they would be different, vehicles work the same and reach attacks work the same. They changed archery to be more like it was in older DDA, they got rid of the 10x crit multiplier and increased the base damage instead. So it's probably generally better, but still way inferior to guns unless you are trying to be silent.
>>530969820>>530970429They also changed a lot about the bows themselves, they remade all of them into new weapons, with the most notable difference being they have much higher strength requirements, so to use the highest power bows you are basically required to have archer's form proficiencies unless you somehow happen to have 18 strength.
>>530965986There's more emphasis on you needing to go mutant or cyborg to survive
>>530970429motorbike archery seems like it would be a risk and resource free way to build up your ammo reserves

Now I appreciate QoL features in other games, why they designed it like that ? I feel like i fight mostly with tedious features. It feels like a roguelike made by someone who never played other roguelikes.
>>530982691Art is a gigantic development bottleneck so a game that uses custom, copyrighted art assets usually is announcing that it has dickall for content. Even Qud is an example of this. Big ass biomes with 3 enemy types in them.
>>530841773It might be misleading to compare Gungeon to the games you mentioned, as it is much slower and demands different skills. Generally, if you want to avoid getting hit, you need to carefully read enemy attack patterns, move around them, and position yourself correctly. Dodge Roll is a powerful tool but also a double-edged sword. If you use it on instinct, you might dodge one projectile only to find yourself immobile and vulnerable to another. Counterintuitively, it should be used sparingly.
Movement is your primary defense, and the game is slow enough to allow you to avoid about 95% of attacks by relying on it. For the remaining 5%, you use Dodge Roll, and the blank acts as your โoh-shitโ button for when you make a mistake. Once you stick to this strategy and learn enemy attack patterns, the game becomes much easier. You can even clear the entire game with the basic loadout.
The unlocks you acquire along the way can be very powerful, and some loadouts can feel like a guaranteed win, but by the time you unlock them, you should be winning mostly through skill.
>>530983821I've played QuD and it has entirely different problems QoL is not one of them.
>>530982691>It feels like a roguelike made by someone who never played other roguelikesyeah, a lot of these games are literally just that
>>530985462The problem I described was content density, not QoL.
>>530986282DDA is a roguelike made by someone who never played any roguelikes (and considers it a good thing).
>>530986517idk zones are just varied enough for you to get a few levels and move to the higher level one when enemies become easy enough. Monotony comes in when you start to farm the zone.
>>530982691The most annoying thing about Dredmor (other than needing to mash spacebar to heal if you want to conserve food, the other stuff you mentioned never bothered me) is how summoning skills work. There is a summoning limit, but the skill doesn't tell you. And do you know what happens when you reach that limit? It still doesn't tell you, and it doesn't even prevent you from summoning more, but the first summon that you go over that limit with will DELETE all of your other summons from existence.
>>530983821Dredmor may have some jank and poor QOL, but it is not lacking in content. Other games with full art like ToME also have a shitton of content. What are you talking about?

>>530993642d/f/k/l/n
(I have no idea what parts is)
>>530989431TOME, DCSS (which used some RPGM sprites at some point IIRC), and DDA all have well over a decade of development behind them and are all pretty ugly (or artistically paralyzed in the case of DDA after SDG's departure). Dredmor has less than 100 creatures in its bestiary, whereas I'm pretty sure Nethack has over 200. Who the fuck even knows how many any given Angband fork has. Sprite based games are by far the most popular nowadays, but it's noticeable how many of them just have less stuff, especially the newer releases.
>>530994001Looks like parts means they are part of set. I ended up taking the amulet I thought about the AV ring but I feel like it's easier to get good rings vs. good amulets
>>530993642Most of these are weapons and probably won't work with your character. None of them work with mine.
The amulet is just faith with a resistance, and so won't be selected often, unless it fits perfectly into your build.
The robe is a robe and the helm doesn't work with horns, so I won't be taking them.
That leaves a(cloak) k(gauntlets) o,l,d(rings)
The cloak is 1 resist and some change, which is passable if you don't have anything better. Unfortunately, a scarf of resistance is better.
The gauntlets boast 2 resists and 2enchant, which is respectable. Good gauntlets are also rarer than good rings. If rPois/rElec aren't already covered, this is a good choice.
{rCoor +stats} is just a slightly better corrosion ring, which means this gets picked sometimes if nothing else is useful for you and you don't have a better source of rCorr.
+8AC/+8EV are great, but require you to lose a ring slot for them. 8 ev can push you up into the nearly-unhittable EVs, so it is very tempting if you think you can actually reach high EV. 8 AC is, generally, better than 8 ev, but building so that you can have the strongest late game character isn't a bad idea. But, again, you have to have your resistances covered by your other gear to really use these.
In most cases, k, the guantlets.
>>530989661I had a similar problem with the metabolic interchange one, I figured you would eat food to gain power, but it apparently consumes your body weight instead, so I somehow went from somewhat overweight to critically underweight in like 2 days of using bionic power. >>530996516Nice breakdown. I think the sword of power could be a pretty solid weapon choice if you're long blades/dex, considering kimchi uses the gigachad OG version that scales up to +27 vs. the nu-dcss retcon cringe version.
>>530993642If I'm lacking resists for a specific branch, the rF+ rN+++ helmet. If I need neither of those, the cloak. If I'm an octopode or cat the ring of robustness. None of those weapons are really good enough for endgame anyway so they'd only be worth it if you have a shit weapon, except maybe the staff of battle if that's the unrand I'm thinking about. If you somehow haven't found a decent amulet before the acquire scroll, Faith can be worth it because gods in Crawl are so busted and faith lets you use god abilities much more freely
Obsidian axe is almost never worth it even IF you find it on an axes character because the downside is so horrible. Robe of vines can be funny but is never optimal since it's just an item to let you LARP being a vine stalker with no armor.

>>530814112>playing ddaIt's a complicated mess. It doesn't even have a launcher. You have to do complicated compiling shit to even get the game to run. Nobody is doing all that. They just wanna play it like every other roguelike in existence. Who wants a fucking CS degree just to play a damn game. Stick to the classics that just work.
>>530994193ToME and DCSS have nice tilesets though. I don't mind them. The DCSS rc glyphs are just fucking ugly as sin too. I tried to play it in ascii and just couldn't. I don't know what it is, but it's an eyesore. Usually I feel that way about tilesets but those two that are kinda focused around tiles to begin with at least have them looking nice.
>>530965986>Fighting with a single acid zombie will chip all your exterior armor, to the point where you will need to be stopping to repair your gear even more than you have to in current DDA which is beyond annoying. Also what is the deal with so many crafted armors being un-repairable? Survivor masks and boiled leather armor are made out of something called "treated leather", whatever that means, and it's a completely unobtainable material meaning those armors can't be repaired. That alone makes the survivor firemask the best gas mask, because it can be repaired with nomex arbitrarily.
Why go out of your way to add these bizarre material classes seemingly for the sole reason of making desirable armors impossible to repair? This isn't a TLG specific thing either it's inherited from DDA if that wasn't obvious already.
>>531004107are you positive it can't actually be repaired, i don't remember that being a thing
So, in Dis, in DCSS, there was a floor which was a single open room full of living weapons. I was dropped into it through a trap, involuntarily. I managed to escape, but that doesn't quite solve the problem.
Stair dancing on floor 6 of a hell is incredibly time expensive, since you have to keep curing your draining using the abyss. However, I am patient, and was willing to try.
I re-entered that floor of hell about 3 times, at which point the staircase was completely surrounded by highly enchanted living polearms and at least one enemy capable of pushing me off the stairs. On entering the floor, my health immediately dropped to 10% and I was removed from the staircase.
Now, I had plenty of ac and ev and sh. I had almost full resistances. I was using crystal armor and had willpower. Defensively, I was about as good as one can get. What was the correct way to handle this floor? How does one counter a mandatory staircase with way way too much damage aimed at it?
>>531005794They say "this item cannot be repaired" on the tooltip, unless that's wrong then yeah. Some other things have that too, not just crafted stuff. Like riot armor can't be repaired because it's make of yet another exclusive material for some reason.
>>531003652>It doesn't even have a launcher>not using the catapult launcherLmao
>>531005868>Stair dancing on floor 6 of a hell is incredibly time expensive, since you have to keep curing your draining using the abyss. However, I am patient, and was willing to try. This is a very good reason not to stair dance. Did you have no blink/tele scrolls? Sometimes you just have to YOLO it if everything in LoS is likely to kill you within a few turns. This is also a funny way to do vaults but not really an optimal one

>>531011541The correct answer was
"Living weapons can't Sinv"
and I am mildly mad.
I have been playing on the understanding that they did not have eyes and so INV didn't do anything to them. I am still unsure if they can be blinded.
This still leaves the question of what one should do when the only staircase is surrounded by enemies with reach and Sinv, but that's more rare.
Lastly, I did use the teleport, but I used it AFTER getting instantly brought to 10% hp, at which point you can't really stand your ground anymore. Should have read the scroll, waited a turn, and then gone downstairs, I think, since I knew what was waiting for me and that they were all awake and mad.

>>531012480Can't think of an example off the top of my head and not at my computer to look, but there's quite a few things in CDDAs crafting that unlock way after they would have been useful. It's probably another victim of "realism".
>>531018773you can use hammering one and scrap metal to make a spike that you make into a knife with no skills at all but you need a soft hammering tool and survival five to make a sharp rock into a stone knife.
>>531018773The realism thing is so asinine anyway, realistically you aren't making 90% of the fabrication recipes in the game without machine tools. They for some reason lock a bunch of recipes behind having an angle grinder, but allow you to craft an angle grinder from basically nothing other than a "grinder blade". Which first of all doesn't even exist IRL in a form that would be useful at all for metalworking, and second they arbitrarily make crafting a "grinder blade" take like 3 days just so it isn't completely trivial to cobble together a literal angle grinder from scrap metal and random pieces of plastic with nothing but hand tools. As if you could create an electric motor, a gearbox, ball bearings and a housing to hold it all in with an anvil and some hand files.
>>531019645Another good one is the flatjaw tongs, because apparently it's impossible to do any steel forging unless you have specifically flatjaw tongs, can't use any old pliers or similar tools, has to be tongs. And to compensate for this limitation they let you craft flatjaw tongs without an anvil by casting, making them literally the only recipe that you will ever need casting tools for.
>>531019586damn that's juicy
When it comes to unarmed "weapons" in CDDA, like impact and brass knuckles, are the damage values shown in the inventory for the item related to slapping a fucker while wielding it or what it does for your damage while worn? Does the answer also apply to other clothing, like footwear for kicking?

>>531075141I was mostly memeing, but I spun up a world to test my shit. Turns out you don't even need different engines for water travel, harnessed horses will do just fine slowly galloping across the waves. My big problem in the past when it came to horses and wagons, is that the horses tended to somehow unharness themselves if I walked away. Ideally I'd surround them in quarterpanels or boards with an access door, but that adds a lot of extra bulk.

I miss transmutations, though I may come around once I've really tried shapeshifting.
I look with some suspicion at the changes to hell.
But the core of the game is the same as it ever was. Simply have a way to retreat, always. When you think to yourself "I can probably stick around to get an extra kill in", don't. When an enemy needs a certain resistance, don't fight them when you don't have that resistance or way more than enough skill points.

Slot limiting effects, such as two-handed weapons, species-specific equipment restrictions, Ru's Sacrifice Hand, or Lear's hauberk are taken into consideration, and give proportionally more piety per curse. I'm considering what level of randomization is "good enough" for my roguelike.
Currently there is a minimal narrative (you're supposed to get from A to B to C) and there's a high degree of handmade content mixed in (internally there are additional steps to ensure the handmade stuff are "shuffled" randomly). So I'm thinking everything between A to B and everything between B to C should have high level of randomness. I'm talking from what kind of dungeon is generated, how many of them (and the sizes), monster inside them, forks in the road.
I think this should be random enough, it's not meant to be an "open world" or anything. The main worry I have is that after one play through, you could get a hang of the stages of the game (A, B and C) and maybe their general direction (since narratively, their relative positions are quite persistent - say you're trying to go from A the outside of a castle to B the inside). I can ensure that the inbetween areas are randomized enough that you can't easily tell how far away from each major checkpoint, but there's this worry that partitioning the progression this way shrinks the game and reduces the randomness.
Anyway, just give any thought or give me a random (You) for no reason.

What are some systems in CDDA that aren't apparent but significantly improve the game when you find out about it
>>531347868the ultimate example of this is zones, trivializes looting to such an insane degree it's unreal.
>>531347981I've never bothered learning what it does, assuming it was for moving and sorting your stash. But you can use it to search through a house for loot you want? That'd be great for saving time but feels like it'd remove one of the most fun parts of the game
>>531345886I saw that video (unless there's more than one) and she was extremely careful not to show even the slightest peek of her face. I don't think it was very convincing.
>>531348518Here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BuK7y8SG6eY
Look at 2:03 where she reaches for the knife, she's basically craning her neck backwards.
>>531348795>assuming it was for moving and sorting your stashIt is, but you can also move and sort all the items in a house instead of manually searching through every room. It won't let you open safes or sealed crates, but it's helpful.
>>531350137There's no universe where a woman doesn't show her face ... I mean they even tried to make a religion around women not showing their face or their husband explodes and it doesn't even work most of the time.
>>531350137i literally could not care less if she is trans, but convincing yourself she is not trans simply because her body passes to you is just retarded
>>531350137>breaking bad mug>liking worms>those hands>that figureThat's likely a real woman. Just ugly. Mainly going by voice and them not being as flashy or showy as a tranny. Trannies have to show off. It's part of their pathology. They demand to get that attention they so desperately crave.
>>531355030I mean don't get me wrong, there's nothing in that video that definitively proves she has a dick. She passes. But with her voice, and interests, there's enough circumstantial evidence for me.
>>531356819>Mainly going by voiceReally? Because her voice sounds very trans to me. Thin, with little range, since she's artificially limiting her range by pitching it as high as she can.
>>531356819You don't understand man ... a woman does not see herself as ugly. She will show her face and if she streams she will dedicate 1/3 of the space on the stream to her face.
Trannies are ultimately men and they think like men. They will think like "what if my audience want to see <things that belong to this hobby>". The utilitarian camera angle you see there is a man thing.
There is a tranny on the tome4 discord (the mod) that does exactly this. Lots of showing off on the hand and such but way too self aware to show face. You can have the fattest woman alive stream and she will show her face. She wants you to know that she's a woman and is part of the hobby, that's the woman mindset. A man can never do this, playing pretend.
blud has never heard of vtubers frfr
she does skits showing face in the signalis video anyway
>>531358014vtubers make sense for those who are self conscious about their IRL identity (very normal in certain cultures), but you don't get it. You think women hide their face because they think they are ugly - this is why you're a man. Women don't think they are ugly. If they show up on camera they will make it a focus to show themselves first. This is why there's that meme about Picture (man) vs Picture (woman).
Even female vtubers will hog up more space on their screen for their model compared to the male ones. Why? Because reserving space for the content is a utilitarian mindset. It's a man thing.
>>531358014I haven't watched the Signalis video since I'm still telling myself I might play Signalis.

>>531348795It's by far the fastest and easiest way to sort items of any kind. It makes looting so trivial that it easily more than doubles the speed of the game once you learn how to use it since so much of your time spent in the game is on looting and inventory management, even with zones.
The thing that makes it truly broken however is that it effectively teleports items. If you set an unsorted item zone on top of a stack of items and then a default zone where you want the items to go, when you run the sort items action all of the shit gets teleported to the destination tile. That means it isn't only a convenience thing even though it is the biggest QoL feature in the game, it's literally a gameplay advantage because it saves you absurd amounts of in game time moving shit around. It takes so long to drag shit or to load and unload it into containers or carts that you can spend weeks of time in a run just moving your crap from your vehicle to your base and vice versa. All of that is eliminated with zones, you can even move shit across z-levels with them.
>>531374628Nah that's boring, really the whole game is poorly designed.
My most successful run ever was finding a shield generator bracelet and a radio-cell blueprint, instantly being immune to basically everything. I walked all the way through the main quest ignoring all the enemies and never got hit once even in the final dungeon.
There's no strategy at all to "turn on god mode and become permanently unkillable". There's no resources to expend, and since you can get instakilled by letting yourself get hit you're always at 100% health anyway. Energy weapons don't even have ammo, not that it matters when every enemy drops giant piles of grenades.
Bit of variety to see it it worked, crystalform is honestly pretty great.

Your armor is flat damage added to every Necrokinesis so you don't need willpower, just pump strength and dex. Every Technique level gives you another attack, and every Pugilism level gives you another free hit on every attack. So with 3 levels of Technique and 10 levels of Pugilism, you hit 30 times and activate Necrokinesis 30 times. You can still use an off hand with Pugilism btw.
Don't worry about the poise stuff. You'll have poise sometimes from the class but it shouldn't stop you from moving forward.
Was gifted Elin for my brithday (it was on my wishlist). Do I have to do home making stuff at all? Seemed to be pretty integral from what I've heard since it went EA
Who the fuck approved this "burnt building" shit in CDDA experimental? On paper it's not necessarily a bad idea to replace building PoIs with a crumbling burnt husk, but god damn this shit needed testing.
>multi tile buildings can have chunks of them burnt to a crisp while the rest is (relatively) pristine
>only replaces 1 z-level of a building, leading to apartment towers supported by burnt twigs or subway entrances having no top or middle layer, effectively removing that route in/out of the underground because no more stairs
>replaces all floor tiles with the burnt floor shit, including stuff like the dirt and water of parks/ponds and the asphalt of gas stations where there shouldn't have been a floor to burn
Obvious issues like this should have been fixed before being merged. Having buildings randomly load in with fires inside was cleaner than this shit, even if it tended to burn down half the town while you looted your first building

Alright, so moves which can be evaded are good here, since they are likely to hit and are likely to be balanced around their accuracy.
>crysatlizing shot>melee>sInvseems it doesn't have smite-targeting, meaning that summoned friendly units can block it.
>brainlessit doesn't avoid water/clouds or move in order to allow other enemies to reach you. It's large, so water doesn't help you here. Deep water, however, may block them. They aren't giant, but they also don't breath.
Scrolls of summoning/butterfly can block the golem, particularly in a hallway but potentially just in a doorway. Horefrost cannonade may do the same.
Eringya's is cool, and the physical component of it may do damage, but isn't really good here. It doesn't take advantage of the zero EV, and may do nothing once reduced by 30% and then applied to the AC.
Yara's is promising, if you have a reasonable chaos-weapon anywhere in your game which you can pick up. You would still need to have summonings, or depend on blink to make some distance. The damage is nice, but this strategy is pretty dangerous and may take multiple attempts.
Irradiate does basically the same damage, but not at range, and without the chance that chaos might just solve the fight for you
The cannons may distract the enemy for you, particularly if they engage first, but I don't think that they can do much on their own. Plus, they will die.
Do you have acrobatics available anywhere? The golem is using a ranged move, meaning that you can probably escape just by walking away. There also are no elemental concerns, meaning you can switch out your whole outfit for dex/ev/ac and ignore everything else.
>>531428781Alright, so I think you can literally just walk this thing all the way to shoals and then snipe it. Even if you don't have any ranged spells or ranged skill, it can't follow you into deep water so you can just chip it to death, so long as you have a reasonable defensive armor/accessory setup. Particularly, a shield with reflect, a scarf of Repulsion, an amulet of acrobat, and evasion rings.
If a chaos sling/handgun exists, that's gg. If it turns out he can walk through deep water, and you don't think you can kill him at that point, simply leave him there and go back to vaults where there are squishy meat-targets that aren't immune to everything you have.
>>531429349Also, consider grabbing a spell specifically for situations like this.
>>531428781>acrobatics availableYes. I have an amulet of acrobatics I've worn the entire playthrough
>>531429349You're a genius anon! Thank you so much that is one hell of an idea and i never would've thought of it. Walk him over to Shoals and then kill it. Or just leave him there I guess is also an option. I don't think I'd have any reasons to return so not like I'd be worried of encountering him later once I left.
I agree, I need to figure out a longterm solution for these sorts of enemies. I skilled a bit into fighting which worked for ghost moths etc, but this guy's too beefy and I'm pretty sure in a 1v1 melee fight I'd get murdered very fast.
Yaras didn't work against him like I'd hoped. The cannons apply a debuff which I could then explode. But I only have it at 30% power and kept getting rather pathetic rolls. His HP never even went below 3/4ths when I tried this and he was rapidly closing the distance.
>>531434851>I don't think I'd have any reasons to return so not like I'd be worried of encountering him later once I left.Your arena here is valuable. You may need it for the next crystal golem.
Also, looks like fulmanat would solve the issue on its own, basically. I'm sure like iron shot or something would be better for some builds, but this uses alchemy and gives you cover sometimes.

>>531419765Tried using skeleton before and botched it, I'll give it another shot. I actually used the same hit maximising combo of pugilism + extra attack generator (think I used stand ground though) for astral/martial class. Didn't think to try it again and just ignore the Poise stacks.
condenservane into acid cloud may do some work against crystal guardian.
(2d16)/2 + 5 = average 21 damage per turn plus corrosion. ac 20 = average 10 reduction, so it dies in probably 6 turns of standing in an acid cloud.

Acid on a monster gives -8ac and that's it, also. Still, landing this effect would make the other options much more effective, other than yara's.

I miss seeing actually interesting guns there, like MP40s and shit. Why even bother having neat guns when only military AR slop is feasible because everything else (outside of modern pistols) is unobtainium?
>>531548995the last thing the game needs is more bloat, cutting all the random guns you can't ever find ammo for anyway was a good thing. They should consolidate the guns even more imo.

>>531550734that's why I said they should cut even more gun shit. They should cut all of the AR variants except the basic AR-15 and M4, no one gives a fuck about the gun autism of whatever contributor decided to include 5 other variants with identical stats. They should get rid of the retarded ass upper swapping thing on ARs too since its gameplay value is negligible while confusing people who aren't familiar with guns and more importantly, STILL prevents you from installing them as mounted vehicle weapons. They should cut half the handguns in the game, there should be at most 2-3 different models for each caliber and they should cut every handgun caliber that isn't 9/40/45. I could come up with a bunch more but there's no point typing it out here.
Blocking
Blocking does nothing.
Specifically, blocking does nothing against "penetrating attacks", "undodgeable attacks" and "willpower checks"
That sounds pretty straight forward, but there is an exception for "orb of destruction", which can be blocked. Does that mean that things which roll and impact you can't be blocked? The bolder beadle, for instance, can its special attack be blocked? According to the wiki, it can, but it can also be evaded. Why, then, did my "shield of the gong" not block the rat fucker???
Lets find out!
"piercing-value" is
if melee: 1d(15 + to_hit/2)
if Ranged attack: 1d(1.3รto_hit)
To_hit is based on HD and the "fighter" flag. To_hit = 18 + HD * modifier. Modifier is 1.5 for regular and 2.5 for "fighter" enemies.
The range of HD is 0 to 30, generally. 30 is occupied only by orbs of fire and the big unique hydra boss. 27 is just old litch. 25 is a single pan lord. 23 is just tentacled monstrosities. 22 actually has a few different monsters. Draconian are 16 or 14, depending. Bolder beetle is only 12. 8 contains some mid game enemies. 5 is considered tough in the early game. 3 is extremely-early uniques and bees.
30HD > 63 to-hit > 1d(46.5) melee, 1d(81.9) ranged
22HD > 51 to-hit > 1d(41.5) m, 66.3 r
16HD > 42 to-hit > 1d(36) m, 54.6 r
16HD > 58 to-hit in Dispater's case, because he has the fighter tag, so 44m, 75.4 r
12HD > 36 to-hit > 1d 33 m, 46.8 r
8HD > 30 to-hit > 1d 30 m, 39 r
5HD > 25.5 to-hit > 1d 27.75 m, 33..15 r
3HD > 22.5 to-hit > 1d 26.25 m, 29.25 r
So that's a range of piercing-values encountered during the game.
A players blocking-value is 2d(4รSH)/6 - 1
My character, currently, has a SH of 6 with a buckler, or 10 with a kiteshield. That's 2d(24)/6-1, or 2d(40)/6-1.
That's Buckler range -.6666 to 7, and kite -.6666 to 12.333 shield value
continued
>>531551187>and they should cut every handgun caliber that isn't 9/40/45I sure hope you're not intentionally saying they should remove all revolvers.
I generally agree with you about the AR's and pistols, fuck that shit, but in reality they should rework the entire gun list to abuse classes and that variant system in the code way more than they do. A brief look at the json they have on the git shows a LOT of repetitive code when it comes to the guns. With better inheritance, they could make shit much more lean. Sure it would be somewhat harder for normies to browse the repo and understand what they're looking at, but dear god we don't need the same list of stanag mag ids retyped for every fucking gun that uses them when it could be made into an "ar_magwell" object.
I am a gun autist myself, but ARs are boring and I appreciate the inclusion of non-military and old guns. Cut down the repetition in the code to make future work/maintenance more manageable, actually let the cooler shit spawn, and condense the calibers. They have lots of cool shit that uses normal calibers, but nobody but gun autists knows the difference between .357 Magnum and .357 SIG or .38 Special and .38 Super.
/'tism rant over
>>531551410So, against enemies in melee
3HD : blocked if 1d22.5 - shieldValue <= 0, 12% buckler, 24% kite
5hD : 1d25.5 - shieldValue <= 0, 11%buckler 21% kite
8HD : 1d30 - shiledValue <= 0, about 9.2% for buckler and 18% for kite
12HD: 1d36 - sV <=0, 7.6% B, 15% K
16HD : 1d42 - sV <=0, 6.5% B, 12.9% K
22HD : 1d51 - sV <=0, 5.4% B, 10.6% K
16HDF : 1d58 - sV <=0, 4.7% B, 9.3% K
30HD : 1d63 - sV <=0, 4.4% B, 8.6% K
Meaning, an SH value of around 6 or 10 increases your average effective hp by a pitiful amount, but continues to be comparably effective no matter how deep in the game you get. The basically means that twohanded weapons may be much better than I previously believed in terms of damage-before-death. Why, then, do you feel so much more tanky with a shield?
Will run more tests when I'm deeper in the game.
>>531553852>I appreciate the inclusion of non-military and old guns.that's great and all, but I hope you can recognize that this appreciation is the exact kind of appreciation certain users have for the inclusion of 30 different varieties of tranny socks.
I am a gun autist too, and I don't appreciate the inclusion of tons of gun autism at all because I play video games to play video games not to masturbate over my obscure gun knowledge, and having a million different guns whose differences are so marginal that you will probably never encounter a scenario where they would matter in gameplay makes the game worse.
Weapon bloat is annoying on multiple levels, particularly in a game as detailed at cataclysm where you also need compatible magazines and ammunition. Item bloat in general is a plague on the game, but adding tons of item bloat to gameplay critical items like guns is completely asinine and serves nobody except the handful of people who will smile one time after seeing a thing they know in the game and then not care about it ever again.
If it were up to me, they would have the generic gun thing just be the default and ideally make it even more generic. Change all the various glocks and sigs and whatever into simply 'pistol'. Change all the ARs and 416s etc into 'assault rifle'. If you really want more than that, just add a blub of flavor text or something.
>>531553921Blocking is multiplicative with evasion and AC in it's end result. If you have very high chance to dodge and very high damage reduction, adding in even a little chance to block significantly changes the damage you take.
Like with 50% evasion and 50% reduction, equivalent to a 4x health modifier on average, a 25% block chance makes that a 5x modifier instead, adding an entire extra bar's worth of virtual HP.
That's not even getting into shields having built in AC, effectively being an entire extra piece of armor you don't normally get, and then the enchantments on that shield...
It's a big difference when you add everything together, even if it looks small by itself.
>>531554708I think the sweet spot is just generic items with varied flavortext names and descriptions. So you have all rifles just be "rifle" but have various different kinds of rifle that differ only aesthetically but all work the same. At most maybe add a simple numeric tier system, like pistol, pistol +1, etc... and have your autism being about assigning which gun gets what tier.
Also the entire crafting system could be fixed with, may god forgive me for suggesting this, OOP inheritance. Collect all the billion items into a few vase classes and restructure the crafting recipes around those classes. This is already partway done with containers anyway, just extend it to everything.
>>531555115>I think the sweet spot is just generic items with varied flavortext names and descriptions.yes 110%. this should be done for nearly everything in the game, food, clothes, everything.
It's particularly egregious in the case of food, where there are a trillion varieties of the same basic dish but with possible ingredient variants so large that the don't even resemble the damn food they are supposed to be, e.g. a spaghetti bolognese that you can apparently make with ramen noodles, bologna and ketchup. I'd like to know who on earth would consider that to be spaghetti bolognese lmao. It should just be "pasta", "pasta with meat" etc.
>>531547050Lost Flame is dark souls inspired. It has combat rolls, stamina, large bosses with telegraphed attacks, and being able to come back to life at bonfires.
>>531554708>and having a million different guns whose differences are so marginalGenerally I agree with you, however it's nice when they have weird shit like the CP-33. A million 9mm pistols with 10-15 round magazines is gratuitous, however a default 33-round handgun (trading out firepower for quantity, because .22lr) is an interesting and notable difference.
>>531555115Flavortext and descriptions go a long way, they're already doing that to a degree with the variant system. But reducing guns to a small/medium/large pistol/rifle/smg system would imo make looting really bland and boring. Just because two guns use the same caliber doesn't mean there aren't appreciable differences between them.
>pistol +1This +X shit should never be applied to guns in games outside of magical influences. What would it even represent? Caliber? Mag size?
>OOP inheritanceI genuinely wonder why this isn't used more in the code.
>>531555485The food is pretty ridiculous, lol. We ain't playing Masterchef here lol
>>531554708>Item bloat in general is a plague on the game,it's crazy the kind of shit you find included as actual items. Loot a house and you will find dozens and dozens of random objects that serve no gameplay purpose at all like chopsticks and canopeners and whatever else. most of them you can't even disassemble for bullshit materials like scrap metal, what the fuck is the point in including them in the game??
I expect at this point for someone to specifically add bellybutton lint and dust particles as things to show up in the looting menu uselessly too.
>>531556241Makes looting interesting desu. Yes it's useless bullshit, but part of looting is sorting out the good shit from the useless stuff.
But yeah, most everything should be able to be disassembled
>>531556234>Just because two guns use the same caliber doesn't mean there aren't appreciable differences between them.It pretty much does mean that for the purposes of gameplay, and even IRL in many many cases too frankly. What exactly is the earth shattering difference between all of the various 5.56 military rifles used today other than ergonomic shit that would be annoying or pointless to attempt implementing in the game or reliability in various conditions that also would just be annoying for gameplay. The differences are too subtle to matter at all for the purposes of a game.
>This +X shit should never be applied to guns in games outside of magical influences. What would it even represent? Caliber? Mag size?you could do that simply to signify a better gun of the same caliber, e.g. a glock 21 = .45 pistol and a Mk23 = .45 pistol +1.
>>531555485>a spaghetti bolognese that you can apparently make with ramen noodles, bologna and ketchup. I'd like to know who on earth would consider that to be spaghetti bolognese lmao. It should just be "pasta", "pasta with meat" etc.Look, it's a bad situation, please just let me at least pretend to have something nice
I still don't understand the impulse to add mother fucking DUST to the game this late into it's development like dust isn't going to cause months if not years worth of bug fixing on it's own for very little return on investment.
CDDA devs are just taunting us with the fact that they will NEVER make the game playable for the average non-autist. We will play test the more st tedious shit imaginable for Kevin, Erk and all those balding little asocial fucks if we want to continue playing the fun little apocalypse survival rogue like for an eternity at this point.
>>531556474>but part of looting is sorting out the good shit from the useless stuff.yeah the bad part lmao. The thought of spending >50% of gameplay staring at looting screens and doing mind numbing inventory management is the thing that stops me from playing the game most of the time, like when you don't replay a game you liked in the past because it has one really shitty slog of a level.
>>531556234Just make gun mods in explicit tiers.
+1 means it has every +1 mod, +2 is every +2 mod, etc...
>>531557103>I still don't understand the impulse to add mother fucking DUST to the gamewhat do you mean they actually did that? I was just joking when I mentioned that.
>>531557103bro just play TLG or BN
>>531557024The caliber line wasn't defending the gorillion AR rifles. I specifically gave an example of a gun in game that has significant differences from the rest of the guns in it's class/caliber group if everything was reduced to ".22lr pistol".
>>531557164I for one, like the looting. I wouldn't play CDDA if it didn't appeal to my loot goblin ways.
>>531557385So for example a gun that has a larger mag would be a Pistol with a +1 mag mod, but not a Pistol +1? I have mixed feelings on this...
>>531557481yeah, breaking shit adds duct overlays to the ground/walls around it. It's dumb as fuck and has no purpose afaik
>>531557712>Because one feature displeases me, I will play the version that cuts out many features I do likeThe real answer is to simplify the core game, and split everything else into mods. Sure there would be a gorillion mods, but you could have the "default" set of mods and still tailor the game exactly how you want it. Don't like Fungal enemies, don't use the fungal mod. Want gay shit, use the gay mod. Want more gun variety, use the expanded guns mod.
>>531557481A screenshot from the subreddit about 12 days ago. Yes, all of those % are dust particulates and its the ugliest shit imaginable. I think the experimental build has changed the dust icon to something a little less of an eyesore but holy fucking shit.
>>531557731I wasn't just talking about AR rifles either, I mean every 5.56 military rifle used by whatever military today. Are there differences? sure there are IRL but even then the differences are subtle, technical and usually in reference to a parameter that is critical to real life combat like reliability or weight that can't be applied meaningfully to a game.
As for the CP-33 example you gave, what exactly is so unique about it in terms of gameplay? It has a higher magazine capacity? That certainly matters for gameplay but you can also just find higher capacity mags for common guns like a 33rd glock mag. The difference between a CP-33 and a glock with a 33rd mag is pretty apparent IRL since the glock mag sticks a mile out of the gun, but how would you apply that meaningfully to the game? make the .22 gun be 2 inches shorter so it can fit in some arbitrary kind of holster?
>>531557164it's really not that bad, the pocket whiners are just prima donnas
>>531558073what is missing from TLG that you're going to miss? it even has some features that DDA doesn't have
>>531558283>it's really not that bad, the pocket whiners are just prima donnaspockets aren't even my issue aside from the few notable offenders like sugar and salt and other shit like that that takes an eternity to remove from its pocket. The thing I don't like is how I have to hit page down literally like 30 times because the loot menu includes countless multitudes of different colored t-shirts, pants, earrings with different fucking gemstones even and then all of those each with their own levels of durability damage increasing the amount of entries on the list 5x over from how bad it would already be.
>>531558283My least favorite part of TLG is the dev, she's a raging Femcel who is trying to persue both a YouTube career and being the primary TLG dev with the help of trucker speed or some sort of amphetamine.
She went on a rant about the various types of Ritalin-likes and their side effects in her Discord a while back and went onto suspicious detail about how one could theoretically take them with seemingly little adverse affects. I don't expect TLG to stay regularly updated for very long, but it could be fun for a while.
>>531558530The obvious solution here is to destroy everything that isn't in stirling condition so that it doesn't weigh down the reality bubble.
Purge the unclean, the firmament cannot contain both the worthy and unworthy without a dire cosr.
>>531558604>My least favorite part of TLG is the devok who cares
the alternative is kevin and co so lmao
>>531558530This would also be solved with some simple OOP.
Just have one class: shirts, and then tack on a bunch of descriptions and modifiers for all the different types you want. Then the entire category collapses down into one thing, call it "assorted shirts" or hell "assorted clothing", give the option to open it up and look for specific shit in there to take out, but just list it as one stack.
>>531557731The solution is to take all the unique features that make guns distinct and just make them mods on a generic base. Then you can have all your tism guns, and also all kinds of fudd frankenstein abominations, which would be both realistic AND convenient. Make ammo generic and have ammo mods too for the full spectrum of tism without 90% of the hassle.
Don't even have pistols and rifles, just have "guns". A rifle is just a gun with an extended barrel, precision sights, and high capacity magazine loaded with high power ammo.
An smg is just a full auto pistol with a stock and extended mag, etc...
Make the tiers into different types of weapons and you can fit all ranged weapons into a single class. Bows are tier 1(wood) then you get tier 2(metal) tier 3(hi tech) tier three(experimental) tier 4(alien) etc...
So your tier zero "gun" is made of leather and shoots stone "bullets", then you get into a wooden gun that shoots wooden bullets, etc... Just add in custom descriptions and it'll basically be the same as now but with a 90% reduction in the size of the codebase.
>>531560014>Just have one class: shirts, and then tack on a bunch of descriptions and modifiers for all the different types you want. You are describing exactly what I have wanted for a long time.
>>531560014>Don't even have pistols and rifles, just have "guns". A rifle is just a gun with an extended barrel, precision sights, and high capacity magazine loaded with high power ammo.>An smg is just a full auto pistol with a stock and extended mag, etc...that's basically how the cars work when you think about it.
>>531560014>>531560078This would also let you do shit like wearing pants as a jacket, using socks as gloves, turning boots into a hat, etc...
Just make all clothing generic and impose the (doesn't fit) penalty for anything you haven't altered to fit into the right slot.
It's not just simpler and easier, it's funnier AND more realistic too! The insane hobo crafter is defacto the most realistic possible survivor type. Making all items generic and just differentiating by material allows for lots of creativity like making boat sails out of jeans and turning bicycles into plumbing parts.
>>531560427Yeah it's a simple idea and already used in many places haphazardly, but somehow not anywhere it would be a huge help. Makes sense as a hodge podge codebase of mostly non technical contributers throwing random shit together with no system.
Can you imagine if cars used the recipe system and were all thousands of distinct unique items instead of modules?
>I can't replace the engine in my dodge because all the available parts are nissan only!>excuse me, but leather seats are NOT standard in the corolla camry, you have to use vinyl wraps to construct them!
>>531560686>Just make all clothing generic and impose the (doesn't fit) penalty for anything you haven't altered to fit into the right slot. That's another one that annoys the shit out of me too, how there's XL and XS variants for every piece of crafted armor. literally WHY? First of all, why would a piece of equipment you are CRAFTING FOR YOURSELF ever be anything other than your size? Why can't we just assume that you would make it to fit the person you are crafting it for? And if even that isn't an acceptable solution, why not just use the already existing poor fit tag instead of inventing 2 brand new ones that only ever apply in the first place to the player and only in late game scenarios where you are mutating extensively?
>>531561320>First of all, why would a piece of equipment you are CRAFTING FOR YOURSELF ever be anything other than your size?Could be making it for a companion or forcing your slav-I mean companions to make it
>>531562730It doesn't make sense even in that scenario, why would you or your companion not make it to fit the person that will be wearing it?
imo they should just remove the entire notion of being XL or XS sized, what purpose does it serve? It's just difficulty by way of tedium in the oversized case by preventing you from using vehicles and shit, and it just some generic stat differential for being small, and both of these traits only exist in the case of specific mutation trees that almost nobody ever chooses in the first place largely because the size penalties are so annoying. You can have bear or cattle like traits without having to literally weigh a ton or be 10 feet tall.
I want to savescum this life
>>531560014>90% reduction in the size of the codebaseWhere? Building a more elaborate system that allows more variation means you need LONGER json definitions for all the guns rather than shorter.
Assuming there are Frog/Pos players here, what's the point of Lich race? It seems like their thing is starting off weak and then becoming strong very late game and they really start weak but I'm not seeing what makes their late game strong enough to tolerate the start
It looks like a regular chaos high mage is just better
>>531577257My brother in christ, have you even looked at the github? At least when it comes to guns, the devs seem to be allergic to OOP concepts. Just a quick look at the gloves json tells me that clothing files are managed the same way. So many shared code snippets that could be abstracted away instead of being copy-pasted many times.
I found that diamond coating machine in CDDA. So far I've been stabbing things with cheap spears and switching to unarmed (Toad Kung Fu with brass knuckles) once something gets within range. Should I coat a fancier spear, find/make some tiger claws, or go all out with a zweihander (or other big reach weapon)?

and that makes sense because you get your ass handed to you if you don't have shield in pretty much all phases of the game.
this also applies to enemes that use a shield, e.g tengus, gnoll sergeants, or angel/daevas -- they're hard as hell to take down with normal melee or ranged attacks

Real asa question, but why isn't DCSS discussion nearly as toxic as CDDA? I thought both were community developed games that people have devoted years of their time, is it because the devs of DCSS keep their mouths shut or is it something about the Zombie theme of CDDA that attracts the pedantic retards?
>>531604627You're likely right. I just don't know the first step though. I have zero coding experience but would love to make and autistism game about cryptids in Appalachia
>>531607538It's because the direction cataclysm took, i.e. justifying and designing everything from the basis of supposed realism instead of gameplay.
They went that route because it's easy to say X functions like Y IRL so we will make it Y too because justifying changes on whether it will make the game better is largely subjective, and inevitably result in autism blood feuds with the deranged tranny developers melting down at each other because their pet contribution got nerfed or removed. It's all a consequence of having no central authoritative voice for the project like some anon mentioned earlier, without that you end up with a free for all with every neurodivergent lunatic out there pushing to include their gross fetish barely disguised as a game mechanic or item.
>>531610362>with every neurodivergent lunatic out there pushing to include their gross fetish barely disguised as a game mechanic or itemwtf are you even talking about lmao
>>531610362>>531610557>wtf are you even talking about lmao>deranged tranny developers melting down at each other because their pet contribution got nerfed or removed.look no further for an example than the condom debacle a while back. some guy removes all the dozens of varieties of condom because it's probably not necessary to specify the exact color, texture and flavor of every random condom you happen to find, cue a tranny lunatic melting down on github about his so very important contribution of condom variety being removed and then having it reinstated just to appease his hissy fit.
Same goes for many things in the game, why there's a million mutation trees with many of them overlapping tremendously, because furry freaks want to RP as specifically a cat mutant, they can't get off to being a generic beast creature. Same for why there's all flavors of tranny socks etc.
>>531607538DCSS is a completed game, CDDA is an autism simulator.
Even before all the autism changes and deletions, DCSS was finished and feature complete. They've changed a lot of stuff but never made it unplayable.
Meanwhile in CDDA no one knows what the fuck is going on, people just add random bullshit ontop of the pile of other bullshit and there's no structure or direction or anything.
Like why do you play crawl? To get runes and the orb and win.
Why do you play cata? To fuck around and look at things.
>>531610884so exactly one example
mutations are the funnest way to play the game you retard
how are they redundant when the categories all have unique traits and also work as an avenue to a specific group of mutations while preserving some randomness, its better than picking specific mutations and it enables roleplaying
>>531610884I'm surprised there aren't dildos.
>>531611142Bretty gud answer. CDDA is about doing ambitious shit and setting your own goals, though, within the bloat
>>531612485>how are they redundant when the categories all have unique traitsunique traits being what exactly? one gives you +3 dex instead of +3 strength? The general playstyle of so many trees is near identical, beast, wolf and cat are basically the same tree with minor differences but everyone knows exactly why they are distinct entries I'm sure. Same goes for bear and cattle, both play very similar. Apparently there was a need to specifically include a distinct tree for both mouse AND rat, because you know they are so very different animals. Then add rabbit to those since it's also very similar.
Literally the only reason these hyper specific trees exist is to appease some furry fetishist out there, don't even pretend otherwise. They could and should condense the mutation trees to less than half their current number to improve the gameplay or mutating, but they won't do that because then how will their dear contributors be able to jerk off to their pixel graphics roguelike game??
Anyone use bombastic perks for CDDA?
>>531613606if you had played mouse or rat you would know they play completely differently so you dont know what the fuck youre talking about anyway
>>531614114The one that's similar to mouse is rabbit, you're right that rat plays more like a generic beast mutant similar to cat/wolf/beast, but then why fucking include it at all? I can't help but notice you didn't have anything to say about the other examples I gave, probably because you can't argue with what I said lmao.

15 years and they still continuously talk about a game that stopped being even decent 8 years ago.
Arelgee, I have become too enlightened with ideas. There are more ideas than years of my lifespan, I cannot turn them all into roguelikes. Perhaps this is the cue for me to stop working on my ragulike.
>>531581647Yes, there's only one item class. A rifle is, at its core, an item that shoots bullets, whereas a glove is an item that you wear on your hand. The system is not ideal. But, you're nor really explaining how you would fix it.
>>531582381Do you know any martial arts besides toad kung fu? A diamond-coated zweihander would be hardcore, but ideally you woulnd't have to use brawling with it.
>>531582381If you are playing a recent version of the game then definitely don't do it to any kind of sword, the fault system they added to melee weapons means that your sword will inevitably become irreparably broken at some point. The best weapons imo because of that is the battle axe.
>>531609808You start by picking an engine/language that goes with that engine. Important part is to pick one and not be too picky. Roguebasin, roguelike subreddit, blogs/articles online, grid sage games, chatgpt are some good places to look for articles. Don't be too much of a purist just focus on getting something done don't nitpick the details b/c that will kill your development. Good luck anon.

I think the problem with CDDA is that the developers are random autists who add shit than abandon it for the most part, but that 20% of the developers are รber-first class Alpha autists who are insanely bad at fostering a community.

I'm willing to bet there have been dozens of people who have been rubbed the wrong way by the inner clique over the years.

>>531607538Because DCSS just has annoying fags who focus too hard on "le balance". In DCSS I have a goal. I have a constant push to keep moving forward to get the orb. Whether by hunger or the Zot clock. Each area is clearly themed and defined. I can look at a random screenshot and get a good idea of where a person is and what level they need to be at. And I can play the actual game easily.
In CDDA you need to compile it. Already rooting out a vast swathe of people who like the pick up and play nature of roguelikes. There's also nothing to do. No goal. Just go around hoarding shit until you get too OP and then you'll just be bored with little incentive to bother moving on. There's no real win or loss condition beyond "don't die". >You have finished your manual of throwing and skillfully throw it away>>531645580there was a chokepoint south east. The silence was spotty there, so I could buff up, but lichs could cast to with 27% paralyse chance.
dodgy situtation but if you get lucky on lich hex rolls and not many dispell undead casts, its survivable
>>531645580teleport trap after I cleared almost all besides the dangerous part, so naturally the only enemies left to teleport me to is this pan lord in his comfy vault lmao. He has some scary spells too, Glaciate with 10d14. He has rF++ (more than me), so immo would probably be bad
I am half tempted to just ninja the rune with blink and tele out
>>531643663>Parroting the legitimate criticism and then undermining it by blatantly lyingYou might as well just type
>Im a CDDA dev and I don't have a legitimate way of addressing your criticism so im going to pretend to be retarded while criticising the game so the entire group looks retarded, HURR DURRfor how blatant your misdirection is.
>>531652157I'm not a dev at all since code to me may as well be Chinese. What exactly did I lie about? That's my experience with the games. I have to use an external launcher to even play the fucking thing and half the time I'm wandering around with nothing to do. There isn't a clear goal like in most roguelikes. Other roguelikes are very easy to pick up and play. CDDA is not.
>>531590247Do I need a guide if I'm not super autisming it up in base building? I just wanted to go exploring and shit. I don't really have the drive to deal with more tedium. Maybe I'll just wait on booting up Elin
>>531617245I have a few untrained manuals back at my base. Pretty sure Montante is the only one I have that is an armed style.
>>531617497I am playing the latest experimental. Would something like a halbard still be feasible? I would very much like to still have reach. Maybe a bayonet to slap on an "oh shit" gun (I think mounted bayonets had reach)?
>>531627207it was just something I saw when i was searching random terms on github and reading through comments on interesting pull requests that were usually rejected. people frequently typing like they were walking on eggshells imo.
>>531654921>I am playing the latest experimental. Would something like a halbard still be feasible?just check hitchhikers to see if whatever weapon you want can get the cracked or broken blade fault. If it can then it will eventually break beyond repair and that means every weapon with that possibility is not viable.
>>531654921>Maybe a bayonet to slap on an "oh shit" gun (I think mounted bayonets had reach)?I wouldn't be surprised if it's impossible to mount a diamond bayonet on a gun or if it is that it would revert to a basic bayonet when you removed it.
In fact iirc you can't do the diamond coating thing on a weapon unless it's primarily cut damage, it's been forever since I found or used one of those things so I'm not sure but I remember that being a thing.
I assumed they removed them from the game it's been so long lmao.
>>531652917Just get enough of the handy auto features like auto deposit earnings in bank and auto pay tax bill so you can just come back whenever you need your crafting benches.
>>531657370Auto features? I haven't booted it up yet. Are those unlocks or something?
>>531593630Continuing from earlier
Just switched my shield while having an enemy revealed around a corner and saw the % chance to hit me change, meaning that dodge and shield are both accounted for in that statistic. The game rolls both "dodge" and "block" into an enemy's displayed "chance to hit you."
That means you can see, easily, the exact difference which block is making.
What is the lore behind this game anyway? Why are all the girls in frilly dresses killing each other in a dungeon anyway?
>>531671740The touhous will do literally anything necessary to facilitate a given fangame, from punching and blasting each other to becoming pokemon. It's in the spirit of them arbitrarily living in a world that works by shmup rules in the original lore.
I've been playing TLG for a while now, but I don't think it's quite what I want yet. Most of the changes are good I think, but I'm gonna wait on it for a while to see where it goes.
>>531676042one thing im excited for is the mutant faction tlg is adding with a wolf man, raptor man, spider girl, and slime girl
apparently kevin doesnt want a mutant faction because "it doesnt make sense"
>>531677413>furryshitDropped.
>>531677413I'm more interested in seeing how their basic game balance turns out. It looks to me like they are trying to make combat significantly more dangerous and I'm not sure I'm on board with that.
>child zombie
>aromantic stockings
>>531678310it doesnt really seem like the current plan is to keep making things significantly tougher if you read recent changelogs
>>531680243I dunno they said they want to drastically cut armor and did, and they are blanket increasing encumbrance by a lot. Even t-shirts and basic pants have encumbrance now, and they are reducing storage volume on clothing forcing you to take on even more encumbrance for bags and whatnot. They nerfed dodging too and indirectly nerfed melee damage by cutting all of the high damaging melee weapons. All of this combined means combat is drastically more dangerous than it was.
>>531553921Against a rat, that's 1HD no-fighter melee
Chance to hit me through my 18 ev and 11 SH is 14%
Chance to hit me through my 18 ev and 16 SH is 9%, with an amulet of reflection.
This implies that adding 5 SH has brought up our effective HP by x1.5
Lets see if that makes any sense.
blocking-value is 2d(4รSH)/6 - 1 -> 2d(44 or 64)/6-1
rat to-hit is 18+1.5*hd = 19.5
rat "piercing-value" is melee: 1d(15 + to_hit/2) = 1d(15 + 9.75) = 1d(24.75)
For blocking:
1HD : 1d24.75 - sV <= 0, 23% or 38.2% with the amulet applied
For evasion,
If 1d(to-hit) >= 2d((2 * (target EV)) - 1)/2, then the attack hits.
That's 1d(19.5) >= 2d(35)/2, which should be 79% of the time you dodge, which is about right.
21% chance to hit through ev, times 77% or 62% chance to hit through block, should be 16.94% or 13.64% chance to hit you.
The number is lower than that.
This means the calculations regarding how good SH should be and the calculations for the display of how likely the enemy is to hit are giving different results.
For all I know, the calculation for when you actually get hit is different in yet another way. Otherwise, I would just collect data by standing next to enemy after-images and shifting around my equipment, but now I don't know what to trust.
Where's the fuckup?
How 2 play possessor in frogcomposband
Any cool games where I can play as a skeleton and do skeleton things?

is this a bad ring?
>>531695371Seems like a ring of (rCorr AC +4 dex +5 Slay +6 stlth+) to me.
>>531696529well, it's not
better recheck
>>531690134You can be a skeleton or Lich in Frog, necro skeleton is what I'm planning for my next character actually
>>531671740Probably a reason similar to why they're killing each other above the ground in the Zun games.
Roguelikes on curing sleep inertia?
>>530908719>remove autodocs from everything but labsis that true? I've still been checking for autodoc basements this whole time
>>531700047yes, and I'm pretty sure they plan to remove them from even labs. iirc they only show up in old labs which they are planning to remove entirely at some point. they want you to install bionics through faction npcs.
Apparently gun stores in DDA were giving 100x the loot they were intended to give due to someone forgetting to undo some debug setting, so that argument about ammo availability in the last thread is more relevant.
I guess now there is no location left in the game to get huge stacks of ammo other than outposts and bunkers. and I guess the bases and aircraft carrier but lol who ever finds those. I've never seen a carrier once myself.
>>531698684What is frog? The OPs "what to play" doesn't want to work for me
>>531700170>removing old labsOh god no. NuLabs are cancer with virtually nothing useful in them.
>tfw clearing the entire main floor of a NuLab without finding a CBM or Mutagen treasure roomLiterally not worth the effort, especially when zombies can bust open the leech root hives and suddenly an entire wing of the lab is leech root territory because you didn't search that area first.

well I tried for like an hour but I died early every time because I can't tell how strong things are and the cranes are punching me for 20 damage per turn
>>531654921montante is cracked
zweihander or longsword is the way to go here
>>531702338FrogComposband, the guy just one above your post was talking about it
>>531695371You take -6 corrosion at the start of the fight so you corrode a bight slower during the rest of combat
of course it also really buffs your defenses, so when you really overtrained offense, this could be ok to use. But you would be better off to level your skills more equally in the first place due to the rising cost
>>531704405How does it hold up in BNs? and how does it compare to Medieval swordsmanship? MS is fucking broken if you build for it.
>>531350137One word in and it's painfully obvious that that's a man. lol
>>531691783Listen, wifeโs going out tonight. Iโm gonna have the guys over, weโre gonna watch the fish on the big screen. Iโm gonna grill up some brats, I got a microbrew chilling in my wet bar, and I was gonna warm up some ziti. Why donโt you come by if you got some triple fried pizza dough, or some kinda frozen meatballs, or whatever it is you can warm it up in my microwave, or warm it up back at home bring it over piping hot, but if you wanna bring over a vegetable medley, a cruditรฉs. Figure out how much lunch meat you can spare, maybe bring over a pound and a half, maybe two pounds of black forest ham, maybe a dijon mustard spread, any kind of dessert, maybe a german chocolate cake or something like that. Iโd tell you what would make you a big hit with the dudes is get some key lime pie, al la mode, Iโm talking about ice cream on the side. and you have got to have a bite of my homemade ziti, Iโm just gonna warm her up, sheโs been in the freeze. You know what I love are them hot mozzarella sticks, cube them up, put them in some marinara sauce, you have them on standby. Sure you canโt go wrong with some sour cream and onion, so long as you bring ridged chips.
>>531680069>Child zombie>MAP flagwhat did they mean by this

>>531725194MAP means Minor Attracted Person, it's quite literally a pedo flag.
Best rag I got from that quest so far
>>531721326>tfw genuinely unsure whether that flag is in the game or not
>>531726653Ah, the new republican flag.
>>531729429You're genuinely retarded then.
Maybe two or so years ago one of you brilliant faggots shared their text colors for CDDA that emulated Qud's style.
If you haven't died of AIDs, can you share it again?
Or do any of you guys have a nice color setup? I might fool around with chatgpt later trying to emulate Qud's color scheme
