It gets slightly better near the end of the chapter where (You) fight alongside Jiyan and Yapyap (~4-5/10), then it gets a bit more enjoyable at Mount Firmament (~6.5/10), then it gets worse in Black Shores (5/10, optionally add 1 point for the ML factor) and *then* it starts being actually enjoyable from 2.0 onwards (Rinascita; ranges between 6 and 9, but the presentation gets much, MUCH better). I've read the consolation of philosophy more times that I can count, the one that is illiterate is the writers. Things happen in the story without buildup, or any rhyme or reason, aren't explained, the climax happens, and then on the last 3 minutes of the story those actions are explained (in strenuous detail).
That's not the way to write a good story, the reader needs to be aware of why things are happening and what their consequences and limitations are at every point, and this must be presented organically, not in conversation.

Remember when Cantarella revealed that she had her second awakening? This was never even hinted at before. Then she revealed that she passed those powers to Cartethyia. This was never hinted at before. THEN she revealed that the only reason Cartethyia succeeded was because of that. This was also not hinted at before, DESPITE we literally having 3 different cutscenes of Cartethyia's past. All of this was sandwiched RIGHT between the climax scene and the climax fight. Is that the fault of the reader?

I don't know what counts as story but 2.0 to 2.2 was great at making you travel around and do a variety of things throughout the story, something which none of the other stories did.
From the city to flying above hills, then there's the gondolas, then boss fights and the vault sneaking mission, then the spooky island with the fools and the carnival, completely different moods each time and 2.2 feels completely different too.

If we're talking purely story, as in the words being written, then sure it's a bit all over the place and disconnected, but if we take into account the story having been written for the player do all these activities and visit all these places then it's great.

How about this: When Cantarella tells us her story, the camera shows her face in shadow or something to demonstrate that she is hiding something, and Rover thinks that he can feel the power of the imperator on her, but faintly (he LITERALLY can do that but I guess the story forgot about it lol).
Then show on the flashbacks of Cartethyia (the live2D ones) that she was about to loose, but felt a surge of power, she knows not from where, that helped her (the story also forgot to show this when she defied the threnodian, lol).
That's it, it would had taken 7 seconds, and you could had a proper chekhov's gun. Cut the last conversation between Cantarella and Cartethyia to 1/4 of how long it ran, and you have perfect pacing.

Cristoforo power works like this:
He needs an existing story A (mya 20 years before), and a very similar story B currently happening in loop (lupa story currently). At each iteration he can make small alterations swapping elements of story A and B in order to create a unique outcome. Before carthetyia arrives lupa was dieing in a loop being replaced by mya (leviathan) making so the story was nearly replaced already, but carthetyia just nuke the story and held cristoforo back so they can't use the current iteration to the next anymore (diverged too much) and set things so rover would team up with lupa (leaving her frequency and telling lupa about rover). As a scion of an important family, it makes sense young Cantarella was present on the day of the festival, the other stuff doesn't make any sense. Inferno rider is generally good yes in jinzhou (best would be phoebe but you don't need to). For jinzhou you can use the loot mapper and then walk around it's circle (it pings close stuff to you while in the circle). For rinascita you can still use the loot mapper but the map has a checklist option that maps all but a few random treasures and hidden quest, and no echo/character is as good as flying in that region (you just need to learn how to fly from the ground with jump - plunge - dash - plunge - fly gadget combo)

If you're new you can try getting Encore besides Verina from Standard, both together with lupa will make a team capable of competing basically any content including endgame. You can also go for changli on your 1.x starter banner (instead of shorekeeper, the strongest 1.x character), and possibly brant next patch for the full meta team.

That's exactly the thing I said was not my point. I'm not talking about difficulty or not being able to clear endgame modes, but the feel of the character.
With Zani, you have to do 5 rotations instead of 1 to fill her bar before transforming, THEN you have to do 2 rotations with super Zani. This feels like ass, because you want to use super Zani, and being stuck doing the same 1-2-3-4 combo 5 times in a row is boring. Same with Cartethyia, the reward of getting the 3 swords is using Fleurdelys, but without Ciaccona you have to transform back and forth to maintain the erosion stacks.
You can clear tower, whiwa and holograms without the intended teams (and I have done so), but it just feels like ass and instead of it being rewarding, it makes you miserable.
