It was funny reading people being pissed about the fan TL of Sakura no Uta getting taken down. I mean, it's very nice that people are willing to put the effort into something like that, and I'm sure it sucks to put work into a game and then have it snatched away from you. BUT from the perspective of a the reader (not the translator), a fan TL effort going on DOES NOT mean that the game is going to get translated. They could simply drop it whenever they choose, they have no contractual obligation to finish. Hell, there are instances where we're told a TL gets to 100% and then it's just never released because someone on the team vanishes. I simply do not have a reason to assume that because there's "some guy" translating it for free, that he's going to finish it and that I'm going to get to read the game. So, you know, sorry, I'm sure what happened sucked and all, but I care about reading the game, not you.

The writing is sloppy. Characters will have interesting thoughts and internal conflicts when they are in the spotlight, and then those same characters turn into one note moeblobs when they are in the periphery. There are plenty of kino moments, but they require you to slog through TOO MANY near identical scenes of Shitman dying and coming back to life.

Add on top of that the overarching metaplot between routes doesn't make sense (maybe I lost the plot because it's so fucking long), and you get a mediocre story that is hard carried by its art, its music, and a few really good character routes. Most notably Mira's two routes are both fantastic scifi adventures that play around with the worldbuilding concepts and deliver very satisfying conclusions both times. Mira is the fucking MVP of the Star Mine Girl team, and the two titty monsters are just backup dancers as far as I'm concerned.

If it helps I remember him complaining about Zakuro's Engrish line that was voice-only, and how they'd added text for it that wasn't included in the English release. That's a valid complaint but I can see it getting passed over since the official release was of a new version of the game at the time (it was the first HD version) rather than something applied to the original lower resolution game. I've tried that and it really doesn't do anything. i cant notice a real difference in any of the ingame settings. there's a mod that helps to get rid of the blur a considerable amount but it causes crashes. the game has no settings at all and it's insane that they would release a game this blurry with so much visual garbage.
