Later, Chris Thormdyke invites Shadow to a fighting tournament as a front to gather enough energy to summon Light Gaia in a misguided attempt to save nature. Chris is convinced to stand down. Shadow is later kidnapped by The Cat in The Hat who uses him and Terios (the other capsule Maria set free and who Gerald transferred his memories onto Shadow), to crwleate a army of Shadow clones. They wreak havoc but eventually turn good because The Cat cloned them too well (they have a pure heart). The Cat was manipulated by Ragyo. Shadow, Crash and The Cat defeat Ragyo, the latter going down with her.
