Bbtag wasn’t a mainline game and only sold by crossovers getting fans of Senran Kagura and so on to buy it. As a fighting game it’s not successful at all, and I find it hard to believe it sold much more than cf. Strive was the only time gameplay butchering worked and the time it released helped. Killakobes and the rest of the "new gen" BB players have this weird fixation of making a game their entire identity. Pretty much the only reason I don't think a Season 6 is guaranteed is just because there's not enough characters they can bring back, unless it's all guests or all originals, somehow. If they can keep milking Strive and not have to invest the time and money to make a whole new GG game they totally will

if i was miyauchi i would focus on strive rising. Fix the issues, add whatever people want to change the game perception and then pump money in marketing for stuff like sajam slam, tyler1 streams, etc. The objective is to solidify the brand as a definitive top 3 in the genre. one consequence of the smaller screen size in GG that I hadn't really considered is that it makes whiff punishing feel easier and more intuitive

people often back up too much when they're playing passive in fighting games because they're scared to get tagged and enter a pressure string and leave themselves in a position where they can't actually whiff punish. it feels like the claustrophobic screen space in strive makes it a lot easier to just intuitively space yourself at the right distance to whiff punish.
