Up to level 15 all skill choices are extremely similar between every character, with (somewhat) clearly intended playstyles. I find both game's skill trees underwhelming and ultimately pointless desu, never feel excitement picking any of the options.

People are really averse to being the Rear-guard aren't they? I end up doing it almost every game and it seems like unless I do that everyone just eventually get's picked off due to stupidity or bad luck.

It's not that I mind it really, I tend to play supportive builds. But it's astonishing how little awareness some people have. Someone can be hanging on to dear life right next to them, and they choose to hone in on the ammo-pack instead of helping them up. Shout/Chorus has been godsend for when running Heresy, almost 30 and looking forward to doing some Damnation. Is the average player better there?

A question to anyone. I play zealot with knife and stub revolver. Everything my knife bounces off of so for example those big ogryns with hammers, i kill with the revolver. Is this the correct way to handle the situation or am i playing wrong? I want to do havocs sometimes soon and want to optimize myself a bit

Not saying I am a *good* player. But I do rarely get hit or downed at all. On heresy I tend to be the last one standing if anything. I have played a bit of damnation on my vet, and most games have been fine. I just run shout/Plasma on him and focus on specialist as soon as I hear them spawn. Still learning Zealot although the Chorus build feels similar with a heavier slant towards melee. Been getting used to the throwing knifes for headshotting specialist. Their melee options are much more fun compared to Veteran.

I just get nervous pugging so I would rather make sure that I am kitted out for the most part and have an idea on how to play m class before doing harder content. But I'll give it a shot bwo

Reason why this happened is because Darktide even now still has almost fuck all content in it. And genuinely speaking they made the mission terminal and the progression fucking worse and tideus.
And on top the devs didn't even add in a mission or map or new weapons or other classes.
And the balance of the game is still all over the place, especially after arbites was released.

The retards playing this game have negative awareness, even in auric maelstrom (the highest default difficulty). If you're playing in the sub-human shitter difficulties, your players will be accordingly retarded.
You can chorus and stun everything while giving everyone gold toughness, they will stand there and twiddle their thumbs instead of doing the objective or helping someone up. You can shout, and they'll continue cowering behind cover because there's a single gunner spraying at them from 60m away. They don't keep up because they don't notice that they have gold toughness, don't know what it does, and as a result never know to appreciate it. The average darktide player has no object permanence, and the awareness (and intellect) of a horse with blinkers on. They see your space cop knocking enemies down, and they feel safe, so they come along. They see the melee class position forward and kill everything, and they come along. Veteran, shooting things at a distance? That's my cue to go search for 20 plasteel!

Also don't forget that most players don't know what most abilities do because they never use them. Running Power DI to track ability usage has really opened my eyes to why I sometimes don't even notice we had a bubble psyker or chorus zealot until like 15 minutes into the mission. They just don't fucking use their abilities.

How do I build the rumbler?

Plasma is good, but the thing it's "overpowered" for isn't what a veteran should be doing. Horde clear isn't your role, and if you must, you should be using frags for it. Vet's greatest strengths (besides the obvious) are the burst damage of kraks, and the ability to quickly and ammo efficiently get rid of shooters and disablers. Plasma is simply inferior at doing that, compared to bolter/pistol which hit some crazy breakpoints with the correct build, and plasma hates running those builds. Even if you put unrealistic value on uncanny shredder nades, the bolt pistol still has the plasma gun beat because it makes the nades better lol.
Never had a vet carry with plasma gun. Used plasma gun plenty myself, didn't like it. The best vets I've played with used bolt pistol. The hardest carry vet I've had used bolter. The most impressive one I've seen used piss vision with helbore, but that was on video and might've been premade and cherry picked.

Yeah but shooters cowering behind cover aren't a problem that needs to be dealt with anymore, suppression is a surprisingly good mechanic. And when there's 20 of them spread out in every direction, plasma kills like half of them if you get lucky cleaves, and then you're a sitting duck, while bolter suppresses them all in a handful of shots, or outright kills them if they're out of cover. Bolter also 2-3 taps reapers depending on the build, completely rapes bosses with puncture, and has very little downtime compared to plasma without taxing you for weapons specialist.
And I still think shredders are a very inferior way to run veteran because horde clear should be someone else's job, and kraks are fucking incredible (especially with bolt pistol). Psyker + vet sticking together with a zealot playing bodyguard is already a virtually complete party, and doesn't even need to run bubble because shooters stop existing if the vet is even a half decent player. Fourth guy can be your choice of OP shit, like rumbler ogryn, lone wolf mine arbitrator, or stealth zealot, but it really doesn't matter.

ok so after playing zealot for a while i went back to veteran, same weapon setup and im absolutely impressed by how much easier vet is. The node to regen health alone when not a melee target makes gunnes trivial. coupled with massive rending on crit/flat rending bonus of 10% i struggle far less with half of the enemies as i did with zealot. shout is just a less gay book on shorter cd and the coherency 33 percent less toughness damage is in the same ballpark from my feeling as all the toughness nodes from zealot.

TH needs to one-shot Maulers and Crushers without any need for outside damage bonuses at this point. So many weapons can kill those guys in a couple hits.

I have very mixed feelings on the Eviscerator right now. I can do well with it, but it always manages to feel weak in any situation that counts.The problem is that the heavies on the mk III suck dick, and the lights on the XV don't do enough to light elites that you want to kill in droves. Then again, it worked pretty alright in what was essentially a 2.5-man Auric (1 guy was probably brand new, and the 4th ditched early and never got replaced), so maybe I'm just greedy for Zealot damage buffs.

This being the case, your ability can sometimes be dependent on how having a personality that meshes with that concept. The Winds of Death for example are associated with the concept of dying and being laid to rest. Accordingly, the Cult of Morr, who is the God of the Dead, often make up a large number of mages who use death magic.

Bright Wizards are popular in armies not just because of their firepower, but because no one else can raise the morale of an army the way a Bright Wizard can. It doesn't have to be a public, 'rock star' magic either: it can also be the hearth, a small flame, the steady passion deep within a person that drives them on. Most of the Winds are like this too - the Lore of Metal is more than just alchemy, the Lore of Light is more than just exorcism and messing with time. The Lore of Death is more than just discount-necromancy. They all do more than you might imagine.

Some winds are safer than others. Light, Heavens, or Life are unlikely to screw you over too much - they're pretty stable. This is why casting magic is generally a bad idea. Smart wizards try to avoid it as much as possible because like I said, it comes with the risk of turning yourself into a Chaos Spawn or blowing yourself up.

Thought I should just post it, this is what I tend to run in Lone Wolf BTL build when I run Shield & Maul with Combat Shotgun. S&M damage is quite mid and the Combat Shotgun has a ton of ammo so I don't need the ammo talents.
If I'm running Arbites Shock Maul, I tend to replace some damage talents since it already does a shit ton of damage and those talents reach the point of "only a bit useful for monstrosities". If I run Exterminator Shotgun or Shotpistol I always pick the ammo talent.
Rebreather is a really good pick too. Lets you mostly ignore one of the most dangerous enemies in the game.

Shield maul damage is pretty surprisingly decent overall, since it have heaps of cleave and allows you to get away with damaging in situations other melees wouldn't be able to since you can just flashbang many annoyances. I don't see myself switching off of it any time soon, unless it's to use tac axe.

Unless big maul somehow hits very specific heavy attack breakpoints I don't know about, I'd suggest you trade the forceful attack speed node for soulguilt scan. It gave me some +15~18% DPS increase (assuming regularly hit headshots, but crusher heads are easy targets).

Health damage taken metrics can range from misleading to meaningless, because not everyone has the same amount of health. Zealot and ogryn easily exceed 300 HP and don't often care about taking damage to it, while a psyker fucking keels over after like 120 damage.
I can easily take some 1.5k damage in a normal havoc run on zealot, and be completely safe and stable across the entire run. It just looks terrible on the scoreboard.

I don't run it that way on any build. All the non-wound curios are good on Zealot. People like to run 3x toughness because youtubers said so or because they like the ideal scenario where it lets them rebuild more toughness from percentage gains. I like running 1 stam, health, and toughness outside of Martyr (which I do 2-3 and 0-1 HP depending on weapon breakpoints). Anyway, the reason I felt like I was eating shit was because I popped my UD at one point, and fighting against mixed hordes was messy as fuck with lots of little fuckups because I was trying to dickswing on rager packs instead of reload the stupid ass Bolter.

It's not that they're explicitly useless but that they're mostly useless in the absence of other knowledge regarding how the game went. Damage taken isn't a big deal if you aren't going down—I agree—but it is still handy to see because you can use it to confirm an area that may or may not need focused improvement.

That really is becoming a serious problem. People should have seen the writing on the wall with World of Warcraft, but I think they wrote it off as an "MMO problem." Now they're having a hard time getting games like KF3 and Payday 3 off the ground because their launch content can't compete with 10 years of cumulative DLC and QoL updates. Darktide sort of side-stepped that issue from Vermintide 2 by switching to 40k, and Helldivers 2 side-stepped it by leaping to a new genre. Overwatch 2 tried to side-step and failed spectacularly. It's why Bungie are scared to make Destiny 3, and the Warframe devs are afraid to make a sequel too.

It might also be why the DRG devs stopped updating it. Maybe they're working on a sequel and want it to have defining characteristics that put it head and shoulders above the state they felt comfortable leaving DRG 1 in.
