Returning player here who was into D2 quite a bit a few years ago but lapsed since then. Hearing the start of this new saga has me hyped though!

I don’t really know the names of expansions or events but last thing I remember was a kino campaign with Cayde 6 being deleted by the queen’s emo brother. I also vaguely remember this picrel QT 3.14 with a ball throwing minigame and some sick ass weapons.

Reinstalling now and excited to binge all this older stuff to catch myself up for today!

A lot of this handling of the power and tier climb reminds me of the big fuckups of Diablo 4 early days when people saw right through that Blizz was trying to make getting to the end this big deal so they padded out shit with the experience in 50-99 with the lvl 70-80 bosses that were fine but it wasn't worth fucking around with because the item quality of the shit you'd be getting not being at the end was going to be very easily replaced quickly, it was self defeating because you really didn't have that good of loot. Nobody likes the building blocks to feel super dragged out when the infinitely higher appeal of being at the end and that access to the better shit is waiting for you. It's not like you wouldn't have to still play the game to get there, and obviously chasing more idealized loot, which makes the whole time gate of the more wide access to Tier 5 stuff when at the top even weirder. Let people play the game if they go the distance, it's why Tranno and Cross don't make any sense when they act like everyone wants a handout and wants to play the game the least

Armor 2.0 legendary pieces are being fully preserved numerically, only the stats' functions are changed. So those high Mobility pieces are now high Weapons pieces.
If you've got good 2.0 pieces, you probably aren't going to see a real upgrade until T4.
Exotic armor gets fucked, though. All Exotic pieces are 58~63 now (T2), although they're saying in the patch notes that a future update will let you pull them to higher tiers. If the bulk of your stats were in Exotics, your build is probably screwed.

I've been a relatively casual Destiny player but this is the first expansion I haven't bought at launch since D1 released.

Obviously the main story is over and that's one thing, but the lack of 'Destiny' energy with this launch really goes to show how the current dev team has no idea how to capture the atmosphere that made Destiny what it was. So usually on a new season/expack I autistically go through API and collections see what's new, there is a fuck load of redundancy with certain frames-RPMs in certain primaries and other stuff that is a bit odd. Like there's 2 High Impact Scout Rifles, 1 Lightweight SMG, 1 Adaptive, etc. Also this is extremely light for a new crop of weapons in general and outside of the mandatory new frame flash, it's not like Bungie really did much help with the stat of certain stuff so a lot of this will feel a bit extra whatever. And I'm saying this as somebody who does find some charm in even decent B+ world drop shit

I was able to get into the servers with not so much as a hiccup only 7 minutes after they opened, which is the fastest I've gotten into any expansion release in 4 years, and the second-fastest I've gotten into any D2 content drop (fastest being Season of Plunder's release).

>Signposting is fucked in regards to the Matterspark entry points. It's easy to find a pipe or objective that requires you to get Matterspark, but the morph ball entryways are not well signposted, and the first couple of encounters are not well paced, spawning in constant new adds to distract you while you're looking for shit. Waypoints sometimes work and sometimes they wait for you to wander around for 5 minutes, or just don't work. Maybe it gets better when you're free roaming, but in the actual guided story leaves the player too much to their own devices and gives no real guidance.

These fuckers played the Prime trilogy a couple of times, and saw cool stuff they liked, but didn't take note of the design language Prime uses to direct you to objectives and secrets. They also don't have the luxury of Prime's map system, which is PART of that design language.
They copied without understanding what they were copying. I can say confidently that if you are a Metroidvania fan and thought "damn maybe EoF will be good", then I would suggest any number of indie games before you even think about playing this one. Not to mention Prime 4 is likely to release before this expansion rotates out.

Armor 2.0 is still good, and everything you had before is preserved 1:1, including the exotics. All High-Resilience Armor is useless now, though, as Health is a dogshit stat that contributes nothing compared to the other 5.
Base Mobility locked to 40 on Hunters is VERY felt, especially on any build that was using high mobility or dodge spam (dragon's shadow, cloakspam). Not quite as obvious on other classes; they didn't want MOB anyway.
The destination guns all suck. Destination guns are usually ass, but since these have the New Power Bonus it's extra glaring.

Based exclusively on the preview content for F2Ps, don't buy this Operation Health Wannabe shit.

To see Bungie and Destiny 2 in its current state is just depressing. The final molecules of soul evaporating into thin air after a decade of continual degradation of quality, budget and vision. Multiple generations of studio talent gone, the amateurs that remain clearly unable to maintain their old tech, systems, and workflow and unable or unwilling to match their creative and gameplay sensibilities. It's been such a long time since Destiny was firing on all cylinders from people who knew what they were doing and had an interest in creating unique and high quality content. We've literally spent 10 years of them worldbuilding though? Every campaign has been an utter failure to actually get across a structured story that advanced things apart from Forsaken and The Final Shape, and the latter is due to literally ending things.
The Witch Queen was essentially just worldbuilding because anything actually eventful happened outside of the expansion and off-screen in a cutscene. Lightfall was a total failure in every way. Shadowkeep was like a pitch for the "dorkness" and the Witness. Beyond Light was worldbuilding entirely too for the darkness again.
All Destiny campaigns have a total failure of delivering actual important, impactful events and information. Its not only that they aren't fun missions to play or that they rely so heavily on things to come later, its that they would fail if they were individual concepts or settings. Despite them presenting it like that anyway and barely providing strings and kinks between old expansions and story-beats in the first place.

Also, what do YOU know about the Black Garden? What can you confidently tell me about it that hasn't been re-written? What about the collapse? Apart from Megamind, Savathun and Rasputin which are the only things we've learned since D1. Oh wow, the Fallen were involved? No way, we knew that since year 1. Interesting, there were bad people during the collapse, we've known this with The Last Word, Iron Lords and potentially Lysander.
Remember Lysander by the way? The writers clearly don't, lol.

I'm tired of playing a campaign where they try and answer questions, completely fail at it and then in a year they move onto the next themed expansion, then the expansion after THAT they might have enough stuff to answer some questions.
