The issue is that SEGA haven't just made the gacha side worse. They're also fucking with the story content.
Level limits put in place, which objectively require interaction with gacha mechanics. bosses can't be restarted on easier difficulties. Then ofcourse there is shit like them actively removing some story beats. Half the conversation on the train after you beat Kiuchi where Lufel first tells you about there being 7 treasures is just... gone... for some reason. Instead Motoha just knows somehow that there's 7.

But my main point is that SEGA has shown no part of the game is above being changed over time. The plans are also relatively separate from gacha and also got tampered with. You genuinely have no clue if, in palace 3, they've levelled every enemy or the boss by 5-10 levels or changed weaknesses etc because they've already done that elsewhere.

I think the lack of an easy mode for bosses is a big problem for casuals. It's fine now because you can just take it slow and outlevel the content, but you're probably fighting level capped bosses by palace 4. Though I also haven't seen anyone mention if the easy mode was in at launch or if it was added later, we seem to have oddly selective backported features.

Overall, I like Lufel a lot. He's not an annoying mascot and his gimmick of speaks old talk and loves meat isn't pushed in our face that hard. Right now at least, as much as I like Motoha, I'm not feeling that she's really that special when compared to our other first girl party members, though I do like her. Maybe this is a japanese thing, they do really like baseball after all, but to me it's so far out of the realm of reality that a literal child would be gaslit for her entire life like this.
