I'd like to use bloodhound step on the dryleaf arts and use it to dodge while I keep casting with the staff in my right hand, but when I press my skill key (ctrl) now, for some reason the fist just does an m1.
The "no skill" AoW says it will use the one in the offhand instead, but it doesn't seem to work.

I see everyone praising this guy, and while I like his design, and he is admittedly easier than a lot of other bosses, I don't see him deserving all the praise he's getting.
Maybe it's just because I'm playing at a range, but it seems like he's designed to catch you off guard with every move, and sometimes stagger chaining/preventing healing/mana pot usage completely with relentless combos and constant gap closes.

your character and weapon level are probably too low for most people playing in your matchmaking tranche. IIRC Liurnia is like 50 with like +6-7 regular weapons/ +2 sombers. at level 24 you could probably find more matches in Limgrave/Weeping, but you won't ever find signs via summoning pool if you've already cleared all the bosses related to that pool.

Look, you can play Duchess and restage half of the Raider's jumping attacks, or you can just play a 2nd raider and get double the jumping attacks. and then she fought the boss in melee with dragon king's cragblade, which i checked and it did 142 damage per hit

That doesn't work because enemies gain status resistance after each proc.

It is how it works. I know that resistances stack up. With two executor you get your next bleed proc twice as fast as with one executor. This is an irrelevant counterargument. If Adel has (bullshiting numbers here) 150 bleed resistances, and then 300, and an exact does 10 bleed per hit, he has to hit Adel 15 and then 30 times. That's not the case though. If a Raider can do 100 melee damage 100% of the time, and a Recluse can do 100 spell damage 100% of the time, hypothetically (fake numbers, making a point). Then Duchess can alternate between 50 melee damage or 50 spell damage, and occasionally restage that damage to be 75 before going back to 50. It's just literally not worth it, she will always be weaker than other characters. You'd have an argument if you could do both melee and magic at the same time, but you cant. You have stamina bar and can only do one animation at a time. You alternate between them, so its just two low stats. They dont combine to be better.

that said, lets look at your example
recluse does 100 spell damage, therefore duchess does 90
duchess then restages 60% of her 90 for an additional 54, then 60% of other peoples 100 for another 120
duchess has done 90+54+120 = 264 in that short time
she will continue to do 90 and eventually hit that 264 burst again in about 10 seconds
if you get a hit every 2 seconds for sake of this example (generous), you would arrive at
raider 500 recluse 500 duchess 450
except duchess did 54+120 twice, 174*2 = 348
450 + 348 = 798
that is how her damage works but it's actually much more dramatic because raider is a lower damage character and restaging somebody like rev, ironeye, or executor is ridiculous

I didn't describe whats happening well - I'm already in surge sprint but pressing an attack button, or jumping, doesn't do anything the guy is stuck in the surge sprint and won't stop. Just fought Heolstor. Our Ironeye died almost immediately and he was at 3 bars right from the start, I had no idea this could happen. Anyway, he spent 90% of the fight dead, and we managed to beat him with just a 2 of us quite smoothly, so that was cool.
