today I spent a few hours trying to figure out how Deltarune actually handles scaling everything up x2 except the Battle UI and how that could be applied in GODOT.
walked away with a headache and still no real solution besides some small gimmicky ones because I ultimately don't know how they actually do it in Deltarune.
It can't simply be that the scale for sprites is set to x2, then collision and other stuff would be off, so it has to be the object itself, but then with UI this would be really screwed up unless the UI objects are actually scaled up x2 as well and they just design around that.
I have a headache.

that's kind of horrid and honestly I was mainly trying to find a solution to get around having to do this in godot, mostly because it means the entire object has to be x2 scaled and really everything does from then on.
only real solution I found was to zoom the camera in but that only works for anything not on a canvas layer so then you have to x2 scale anything that would go on one of those since x2ing the canvas layer itself is a bad idea, makes UI and stuff harder to make in general.
I should really stop wondering about this and trying to figure it out (for today) but I can't.

Basically Deltarune assets are a lie. The game is 640x480, but if you look at the sprites on a sheet vs how they look in game, they are far too small even for the base resolution. This is because every single sprite is scaled up x2 except for specific ones like borders and the Battle UI which is 1:1 with the resolution.
I was simply trying to figure out if there was an easy way to apply that scaling without having to do it for each and every object and did find some ways like setting the camera's zoom to x2 which works for any object not on a separate canvas layer, and then for stuff on a separate canvas layer you simply x2 the scale for that object (but then you have to fix it up since now it's x2 size).
Guess the only real answer is simply "set every object's scale to x2 and go from there or something".
Idk why I even spent this much time on this today but it does explain why my own stuff looks small compared to Deltarune. Feel like I should've come up with a better solution and faster with how much time I've spent in Godot.

Omori is a game about escapism because Sunny has to avoid all his friends and dealing with the truth of his actions to explore more of Headspace. Headspace is a hugbox that stagnates Sunny and he only grows from real world interactions. Headspace is just a distraction.
Deltarune isnt even about escapism because Kris must confront his bully and interact with people he's been avoiding to progress in Dark Worlds. In Dark Worlds Kris furthers his real world relationships and confronts his own flaws. Dark Worlds are not an escape, theyre a fundamentally real thing and it's Kris's duty to close the fountains for the safety of the real world.
Playing piano alone or whatever Kris was doing before chapter 1 was actual escapism.

Been working on my own game for about 3-4ish years now and have tried a lot and not really gotten anywhere with a few different versions, starting over multiple times, trying out different engines, etc.
Now I guess I'm just making a deltarune clone version of it since that's kind of what I wanted in the first place and have relaxed more over the years about making a full on "clone".
I actually made a mock up of an attack with the battle box, soul, bullets, background, HP and dying about a month ago. Spent the rest of my time after that building the "world" part of the game and have been planning to start making the Battle system next but got side tracked by this scaling thing.
Idk if I'll even bother trying to make the Battle system this week, feel like I need a break.
Somehow on monday this week I managed to make the entire textbox system in 2-3 hours with resources for dialogue, pages holding the text + character speaking + a portrait to display (held in character resource), type writer effect for text, and so on, which amazed me, but I've made a Textbox system before in gamemaker and another GODOT project.
Idk if I'll even bother trying to make the Battle system this week, feel like I need a break.
It's not a deltarune fan-game though, sorry.

As cool as it is to believe Tenna was possessive enough to give Spamton the Thorn ring, I don't think that's actually the case.
I think they were pretty happy together(evident by the Z-rank poster) and Tenna would've proposed legitimately, either romantically with a ring or through a lifelong business partnership contract.
I really do think this "marriage" agreement is the thing that cut Spamton off from FRIEND. As the colors pink and gold often represent wealth vs love, it's a common trope in stories where a character has to pick between the 2.
Spamton tried to have both and got punished for it. The neko of wealth and love says you can only have one or the other.
The same goes with Tenna, who wanted to manipulate Spamton for his success but also be with him, he tries to have it both ways and got neither.

I feel like the TP mechanic is only a thing because Kris is resistant to (Us) and it represents more the "tension" between us and Kris/the Party. Which is why certain seemingly normal ACTs cost TP, likely scaling on how little the party member wants to do them or just how straining it is.
