Say what you will about Mang0, but Melee was his only shot at not living a shitty life. Seeing Zain and Cody who could have been successful flush their life down melee's toilet is kind of sad. Hbox was similar, but at least he got to be a big streamer at the end which I assume is more fun than whatever he did as an engineer since he still does it.

Mang0 was the high water mark for Smash as a whole. His situation was the best someone who plays smash could ever hope to get, and he only got that after years of playing and building up small fame. And then he flushed it all down the drain in an instant by doing creepy stuff. (Although he has a path back by claiming it was alcoholism).

It's funny how this keeps happening with smash pros. It's almost like we're the problem.

Zain and Cody just came in to it too late. The smash scene had potential during the five gods era to go official, and get Nintendo support, especially with the Evo numbers. But we were too demanding and not willing to work with Nintendo.

Hbox played it smart, transitioned into a content creator, and didn't burn out/do anything stupid while playing up the wholesome act. Plus he branched out to Ult and made bank with the coin box series. Now he's just raking in income.

I am absolutely astounded though, how hard is it to just act normal socially around strangers and not try to fuck kids?

idk man, shes the worst of the top tiers easily. but I just have the most fun with peach, she was the first character that clicked for me. float is really fun and changes the way you approach everything. ditto with turnips. and getting 60% off a single downsmash is a hell of a drug. shes really great at edge guarding though I guess all the top tiers are. would definitely be much better by now if I chose marth or puff or a spacie instead.

i played a game of melee on slippi. during this game of melee my opponent grabbed me, threw me down and was immediately able to grab me again. during this re-grab i was not able to escape. he was able to repeat this down-throw into regrab combo at least up to 7 times putting me from 0% to 56% or something. as this was happening i thought to myself, is this the LE SICK 20XX HECCIN BASED TECH SKILL HIGH SKILL CEILING REALLY HARD GAME these guys were talking about? were they playing something else? is this a different game im playing? surely they were not talking about the same game i just got down-throw regrabbed on 7 times while i was unable to escape? this is the super sick 20xx tech? it has to be, right? they put this mechanic in rival of aether 2. i was told rivals of aether 2 is supposed to be copying melee. this was put into their game because of melee. this is whats cool?

Play a broken party game from 20 years ago, no money in the scene, much less prestige, even GODlike Melee players fucked off from competing because of it.
