Not faster. Being rushed will cause you to use more stamina as your Uma rushes forward. Skills typically just give a bonus to existing stats. Accelleration up is a boost to power, Velocity up is a boost to speed, so on.

Guts is like an extra bit of stamina in the final dash to the end. It is also the deciding factor in ties. Highest Guts wins. Later on it will apply to more things as the stats are expanded.

Wit is your skill activation, along with stopping them from getting rushed, late starts, and stamina use in more difficult situations, like going up and down hills.

In general, front runners want speed and stamina, less power, they're attempting to reach their top speed the whole race so power isn't as important, but if they don't have enough they might get caught in the pack, or can't break through other front runners. The further back in the pack your runner is the more important power becomes to allow them to get to their max speed faster when they make their move. The faster they're able to get to max, the quicker they'll be able to push to the front. Stamina and Speed is important for everyone, Wit at a minimum 400 is a good goal to have, and until the stats get expanded on Guts doesn't really help much at all, but later on it will be more important.

They played really suboptimally, had bad parents and bad cards, but got friend training 10 turns in a row during classics year so they curb stomped every race.
