Falcon and Skyraider are safe picks, they can cover the map quickly, escape almost any other player, and have good weapons for clearing out mobs.
Luminae and Pinaka are surprisingly effective thanks to their self-sustain, and can cover any weakness with modular weapons.
Aquila is Aquila.
The rest have faults, mostly from bad matchups with other mechs.

Most of the time, you can chill, mop up grunts as you move around the map and extract in one of the five spots on Normal.
Most other players will leave you alone and do their own thing, and bots* do not use extraction points even if they do sometimes camp a point (they're easily destroyed and don't redeploy).
Only wrenches in trying to play pure PvE are if you get a match with 5+ players (meaning you're going to have to fight for an exit), or if there are PKers (like most Aquila players).
*Bots are pretty easy to identify from their tardy movement and loitering, and they come pre-packaged with some pretty nice loot in their cargo, so kill them.

Melee is ass against luminae, best you can hope for is 2 hits and for your useless teammates to assist.
There's some stupid fixed camera-movement tied to performing melee attacks that I don't think can be circumvented, so you're stuck having to yeet your mouse across the table if you want to turn 90 degrees while swinging.
Not to mention the lock-on gets dropped so quickly if they're not directly in your crosshair.

Personally I don't think Welkin is broken. It is probably the most influential mech and in good hands it can carry game, yes. But the problem is not about Welkin being good but rather because of the lack of alternative mech that can contest objectives.

During the first alpha Welkin is a hard melee hitter, and in the second alpha they changed it and turn it into a tank which makes it exceptionally good at doing objectives. And I think that's good because otherwise nobody can do objective in this game because any damage resets the 8 second progress.

The only problem about Welkin is that it takes too much effort to take it down and all it takes is 15 seconds to respawn and come back from the skies and then you'll have to do it all over again, but that's more about heavy mech in general and not Welkin specifically.

I disagree. The issue is not that there aren't other mechs that can contest objectives to the extent Welkin can. The game will truly become utter shit if they make more Welkins unless they rework the entire game so that all mechs are fully self reliant and have muddled roles. No one wants to play a mech game where games come down to cooldown plays. They want to want to paint a mech and then pilot it. The problem is specifically that Welkin is currently an ascended hero class that tops the charts in multiple categories to the point that you're throwing the game if you don't have him on your team. There isn't a single mech in the game that counters or doesn't fear Welkin. Combo 2 does the most damage but you're rarely going to land it against actual players because they'll just boost out of it and leave you stuck executing it, you only use that against NPCs or if you know your target ran out of EN entirely. Combo 3 is the AoE so you use that if you're in a group which is a situation you generally don't want to be in, but it also has decent horizontal range so if your target didn't jump away it can catch them. But combo 1 is the go-to because it does decent damage while repositioning you on top of your target so it makes you harder to hit and it makes it harder for them to get away.
That said Stellaris is not a big damage unit, he's a hit and run unit and Falcon is his only true counter. If you didn't kill an enemy with your first attack you generally want to back off and make them lose track of you until you can sneak up on them for more free damage, which should really only take a few seconds if you're managing your stealth properly. But if you're dealing with Panther he's basically free parries.
The energy beams are so EN intensive relative to their damage that they should be considered a last resort for finishing off an aerial enemy.

Yes, that is a tremendous issue. Don't just gloss over this. Inferno can also delete units quickly be he crumbles under pressure and gets shut down easily, Hurricane is a essentially a support since all he can really do aside from create his barriers is be a minor annoyance and destroy missiles, and both Stego and Inferno are both ultimately stationary and there are several ways to force them to move. Welkin forces you to deal with him. You have to deal with him or else he will kill you quickly, split your team up so they can be picked off, or cap the objective entirely on his own, and this is all ontop of extremely hard and time consuming to kill.

Hurricane is sleeper OP in payload and capture node maps.

- Decoy drone, 30k durability, 6 sec cooldown? Basically 5000 regen/s, that's insane. In practice it can be more due to remaining redirected bullets after it has been destroyed.
- Faster than inferno plasma gun 24k damage on stationary targets + burst potential by spamming.
- Dome 50k, 2000 regen/s, nice shield.
- The disco laser does almost equivalent dmg as Inferno's single target beam but hits 4 targets (Inferno's multitarget beam does less than half)
- 3 defense drones destroy a tank over the duration, though it takes time, and the range is low. potential value is pretty extreme. Just dump them over an objective and you'll win the long game.

His only weakness is getting killed by melee.
