Indie creators getting involved with their fans never ends well. Especially when dealing with a fanbase that's as large and fragmented as UTDR.

The discord fans can't read, the twitter fans can't stop the circlejerk, we're too irony poisoned, and who even knows that's going on with reddit. Even if he did start to interact with one of them, it would quickly devolve to some small subgroup that happened to most agree with Toby's views and just echo chamber the shit out of him.

All of this already happened with Homestuck and it took us like 8 years and hussie shopping around for pronouns just to publicly kill xirself on Polygon of all places to recover.

And as funny as it would be to see Toby do all that, he knows better from seeing it all first hand the first time around.

That's rather the problem, isn't it. Sure, in the dead of night when the only people on are either hopelessly invested or disenfranchised doomers done with other platforms it's relatively tame, but most of the time when the thread's actually active it's almost all bait or spam. Not the sort of interaction that a creator would actually want about their work. It may not seem all that bad if you're used to it or grew up with the mid-aughts internet, but it's far from a healthy environment for fostering productive discussion.

That's not to say that Toby "Mpreg" Fox wouldn't be able to handle it. Bro literally grew up on antagonistic parasocial relationships and ye olde forums, he knows how all that works better than most people here. He just also knows exactly why it would at best be bad praxis, and at worst lead to the same sort of slow crashout he saw with Hussie.
