Nice. Always gets more consistent after the first time so you probably don't have long before you start getting some tries at stage 6.
If you haven't yet I'd advise you to practice Okina with low resources until you have relatively okay odds of surviving her with at least two or three lives. More than a couple of my LNBs I've only gotten because of good final boss performance after everything else going horribly, so it's actually not bad to depend on.

LoLK is a revenge story about Junko's kid being killed.
DDC is on the verge of being serious since it's about the power dynamics in Gensokyo (it was just Seija putting ideas in Shinmyoumaru's head though)
HM has Kokoro draining everyone's hope
ULiL does has the possible destruction of the barrier at stake.
UDoALG does deal with a potential takeover from (Animal) Hell in Gensokyo, and we've seen how that kinda sucks in WBaWC.

If we're strictly speaking about in game these are the ones that strike me as serious, the rest are rather mundane.
EoSD just has a red mist everywhere that needs fixing.
PCB/HSiFS/SWR has seasons out of whack that needs fixing, though one of them is just Okina flexing.
IaMP is just Suika that wants to party, that needs fixing.
IN has a big fake moon that's powering up youkai that needs fixing.
PoFV just has a lot of cherry blossoms around that needs fixing.
MoF is just the Moriya crew flexing.
SA is close to dangerous but in the end while they are connected to (old) hell, they're just geysers that doesn't need fixing in the end.
UFO/TD is just about someone resurrection (nothing to fix here, they both turn out to be cool).
UM just has everyone playing cards, doesn't need to fix.

Outside of the games, EoSD for example did have humans getting slaughtered before the game.

Finished VD. Enjoyed it at first but goddamn did ZUN start phoning it in hard toward the end. Reused patterns, simplified patterns, not even giving the final stage it's own theme. And teleporting really should have been mapped to C and not double tap shift. Not terrible like I was expecting it to be but definitely the weakest photo game of the lot.

What can you even talk about concerning touhou gameplay long term? You either blogpost your progress like here >>533308154 which might involves something like "I'm stuck at X what do I do?" sparking technique discussion or "what's your favourite shot type for this game I'm going through", or you discuss the new game that just came out and no one has no idea what's going on because no one can read the manual so it becomes meaningful discussions city for a few weeks as everyone discovers the mechanics.
As much fun as it is to answer "what's your favourite spellcard" over and over again (storm on mt ooe btw), at the end of the day touhou is a shmup so there isn't a large amount of meaningful gameplay content to talk about. Cases could be made for something like UM's card setups but that's already been discussed to death so it's not worth bringing up unless someone posts about it and ask for advice because everyone who has already played the game has already said their piece.
Until the new game comes out which is in a few months, there's simply not much to talk about that hasn't already been said or discussed.

I've 1cc'd legacy normal with all shot types and did PD Lunatic Marisa for shits and giggles. It takes a bit of time to get used to, but LoLK is actually very generous with lives if your play is clean enough. That said, I hate Doremy and Stage 5. Clownpiece is always horrendous no matter how much I practice, actually harder than Junko.

The list feels largely made on autopilot by a superplayer who has long since lost the ability to put himself in the shoes of worse players, their struggles, how they can get around it, and so on. It's pretty worthless if not misleading for anyone below that. From the common "I don't get how beginners play anymore but this is slow & static so it must be easy for everyone" issue of placing IN as the easiest Normal 1cc, to PoDD Hard ranking on the same level as Lunatics and LNBs when anyone who's played Hard can tell you it really isn't that big of a bump from Normal, but since PoDD Lunatic is hot bullshit, PoDD by lazy association gets up there.
The ambition is appreciated, but this is something that shouldn't be done by an individual, or even some bubbles where circlejerking better players' thoughts is not always applicable, yet is bound to happen.

Extras in general are all mostly too low, again likely as a consequence of the makers being too good to properly assess lower ranks. Say, a WBaWC player fresh off his otter 1cc isn't ready for Saki, or rather, it'll take more effort, not the same. You don't have a whole early game of resources that eases you in enough that the rest of the game, you have a stage that requires a bit more than just streaming. You have patterns at a speed more akin to Hard which you're likely not used to. You have otters but in such an environment a choke is quick to happen, and bombs cant be your crutch against spells.

So you already know about how bombs do damage and all that. And I'm sure you notice that you stack bombs on death. Are you not using bombs in the the stages? Because of how the game works, using bombs to flip panels scores you a huge combo as if you did it without dropping the orb. Done on most screens, you can score a free life and very often two lives from one bomb. Which in turn means you now have two more bombs which turns into two more lives each, etc, etc. And it makes stages extremely consistent since revenge bullets are no longer much of a concern since you're bombing them all anyway. The damage bombs deal is not insignificant when you're going into bosses with 6 or 7 lives, bombs can sometimes do two damage when you're on no lives which means you're going into boss fights with potentially up to 14 damage secured if you're lucky. And the ball is still moving during bombs too so easily more guaranteed damage. If you can clear a boss with just 1 bomb in stock, you can start the life economy all over again and farm the next stages. And funnier still, due to limitations, Lunatic is slightly easier at certain points due to the game being unable to load in every projectile since there's too many on screen which fucks with certain boss patterns. Is HRtP free? No, you do still need to be at least decent at the bosses just to be able to bring them into range of finishing them off. But that is a far cry away from the effort that Lunatic/Extras ask of you in my opinion.

This game is weird because almost every character seems to have the same for "hitbox_u" on their .sht file (2.8), but then you've got a few, like youmu and reisen, which have 8 as their value, which makes no sense because it would mean their hitboxes are almost thrice as big. So I can only assume the game just ignores the value and gives everyone the same hitbox size.

Card gimmick is actually really cool, a natural extension of ISC that works pretty well. Must have been fun theorycrafting on release about the most broken builds.

>Not really but if this is your exact Top 3 i'd find it a litle puzzling. Not to an insane amount but all three of these games are up there for different reasons.
1- IN is a game brimming with content (relative to the franchise) with all the tools right out of the gate to ease you in and get good, along with very readable spells.
2- SA is a challenging game with varied stage design, unique shot types (if not a little weak), and an easy to understand, effective cast of characters that combine cohesive spells, tension and uniqueness (Mind reader youkai uses spells from your partner, Final boss throws suns).
3- EoSD also is a very accessible game in all fronts outside of its middling difficulty but gets bonus points for its sheer iconicity which boosts it in pretty much every popularity poll.
The reason i'd find it weird to have these 3 as your Top 3 is that their qualities directly branch into potentially liking other titles better.
Enjoyed the slower, approachable spells of IN? You'll probably like PCB just as well, maybe TD.
Enjoyed the more volatile, borderline bullet vomit gameplay of EoSD? MS is pretty much that on PC-98, with arguably some things done better, maybe even the Phantasmagoria games.
Still hungry for a challenge and more involved stages after SA? UFO and LoLK are right up your alley. Photo games could also be your thing.
And it's not like the rest of the games I didn't mention are worthless. If you want more involved stage play not just for the sake of it, DDC's PoC for lives system and HSiFS's scoring extends might please you. UM's cards emphasize replayability & creativity, WBaWC's take on the UFO formula and well timed hypers might suit you. TD's spells are as approachable as IN's but arguably more varied.
