This is a new colony and I'm not doing anything special either, besides fine meals. They sleep in closets and only have the ol' chess table and hoop combo to keep themselves entertained.

You build a ship (with special spaceship foundation and airtight walls, and other specific spaceship parts), then you can set it to go to any point on the map. You're expected to make your ship into a mobile base with food, beds, recreation and everything.

You can choose to land either on the planet somewhere, or in orbit at an asteroid or space station. You can't just fly to empty space, and you can't leave the planet entirely and go to another planet.

Each jump costs a bunch of chemfuel, has a cooldown of a few days, and it permanently destroys the map tile you were just on. There is a "grav anchor" building that protects your tile, if you want to take off from a permanent base without destroying it.

On a tangental note, you can build shuttles now, and both shuttles and transport pods can send you to space locations and down to the planet.

Are there any mods that add a gene that penalizes or restricts giving that pawn implants?
I edited the Sanguophage xenotype and added genes that boost their base manipulation and sight but adding bionics on top of those would be pretty broken. Also the idea of vampires with mechanical augmentations is just stupid to me.

inability to in remove/avoid overhead mountain has got to be the single worst gameplay element in all of vanilla

There's a hidden timer. Higher vaccum resistance mean pawn can stay in vaccum for longer, thus extend that timer. 0% resistance is 0.5s for a burn

interestingly if you build an anchor your ship when you fly away does not become a new colony, they both share the same colony value, same wardrobe/diet settings window, but not actually, raids do get adjusted to the map. Wonder if i should create a new colony and if it changes anything

from my experience just having two fertile pairs is enough, but you might want to install the incest mod later and something to mitigate loss of a relative penalty since it isnt balanced towards families at all, i have it last 5 days instead of 30.

Christmas came early today, with the addition of getting the 3rd Gravcore a shuttle wreck was also located on the platform which means a free shuttle engine.
Also have been adding some more rimsenal mods slowly to see how they are since I haven't used them in a long time.

Has anyone tried living IN the lava yet? Like setting up your colony in a big pool of lava and using it as a moat.

Done with the Odyssey ending. It's been almost a year since I played vanilla but it was surprisingly not bad at all. It's just a +2 range buff and +1 damage, but charge rifle actually feels good to use now. It's nice fighting in orbit because there's no weather, too. I can't count how many times I got fucked by rain or fog on the surface.
The gravship is pretty fun, but I don't think I'll use it on a non-gravship scenario. I don't really fly around unless I'm forced to, so I probably won't go anywhere if I don't get chased by mechanoids or need to get gravcores quickly. I wanted to make a battleship with tons of turrets, but I got sick of gathering resources and planning the limited substructures so I didn't really bother expanding my ship much past the third upgrade or so.
Exploring ruins, warehouses and other new areas are fun, but the rewards feel a bit underwhelming. It's great when a unique weapon, sentient catalyst and rare stuff like that pops up, but it's just awful when there's only a few reinforced barrels or raw hops. Cyclops and wasp traps are also fucking ass and I hate them.
The ending wasn't too difficult, I didn't really like running around the entire map to find the things I need, but planning on when and how to conquer the area quickly while managing my limited resources on the ship was pretty thrilling. I landed on the hive on a whim just to see how hard I get destroyed, but I managed to finish it by just ignoring the final defense response and going straight for the core. Shoutouts to my man Pansy who kept wooing Rina every single day, two to four times a day, even when she had a husband, and finally getting her after her husband divorced her for being foulmouthed.
I can finally go back to my comfy modded Rimworld now.

I messed up with Odyssey. I left my original tile and forgot to grab the mech implant. Been four years of hopping around, no mechanitor complexes have shown up. Also the anomaly thing hasn't popped back up. Am I screwed?

Nah, you see it's completely normal when the game freezes on a brand new save to process a quest and every time a group of traders spawn. Every race mod needs to include 200 new items you're never going to use and five additional factions to lengthen the game's internal table when it's running an event check. These things are to be expected -- and yeah, we updated to 1.6 but none of the clothes are 'airtight' so don't think about bringing these modded pawns to space either.

I recruited some low-combat pawns and gave them whatever was lying around in the armory and sent them to reinforce both fronts and it worked surprisingly well. One low-shooting pawn with careful aim and a sniper rifle took out a dozen shamblers.

The real problem was 4-6 shamblers ignored my main base, kicked in the flap to my animal pens, and murdered the Chinchilla that's been with me from day 1 (plus most of my turkeys).

And then a psychic drone ship crashed on the opposite side of the map, so now I have two mechanoid groups camping outside my base. So of course I signed up for a quest that promises to send 3 raids of ~40-60 tribals at me in hopes that they thin out the mechanoids before dying, but so far the raids aren't showing up.

It stacks with Elongated Tail, too. Since they're percentages, they get further buffed by other things helping the stat out. I'm very fond of them on my favorite characters after harvesting it from the genetic creature I make at the beginning of a run with a couple of genes like that. Robust, unflinching, maybe faster sleep, slap on a beer dependency since I always have heaps of it for everybody, maybe a psychite one for yayomaxxing (I think wakeup counts for this also). Faster movement is nice, too, with strong melee. Just a bunch of mostly regular people that grug out on the rim
