I wanna apologize to /dng/. I've been thinking about certain long-term effects of card design: the current era of "set/activate from deck", attribute soup, compact engines, and creeping to the point where shit like Dragon Link & Dragon Rulers are considered harmless.

Back in the day, I was the kind of person who justified the existence of cards like Maxx C and Ash Blossom on the basis that "handtraps always existed" like Effect Veiler and Kuriboh. I thought decks dying to these cards instantaneously was natural, that Konami were assholes for EVER making modern cards that were notably vulnerable to them, and anyone complaining never liked Yugioh for what the game actually was like animu nostalgia tards. But I've found myself wondering if I've been selfish and complacent because I myself abused these things while ignoring what the situation was like for others until it started affecting my play personally.

I've also been kinda bothered by how card reveals are always met with disappointment, seeing a few things I actually kinda liked conceptually being hated solely on the basis they aren't as warping or immune to everything.

I've been switching away from using typical decks like Superheavy Samurais for more "pack filler" archetypes like Libromancer and Argostars while prowling casual sectors, eschewing stuffing them with handtraps as a "band-aid". Sure, it sucks when you end up matched up against actual decks that DO use these (let's face it, EU Casual is the only consistently populated server and the good decks have to play SOMEWHERE), but honestly, I've found myself having a bit more fun. Not having the instinct to surrender instantly because I didn't draw Ash or Nibiru since I never had them and feeling (sorta) secure that my opponent is the same. It feels like we actually play to see what happens, y'know?

I guess what I'm trying to say is, I'm sorry to some anons I was obstinate about a while ago. I don't know if you're still here, but I wanted to say that.

The safer way of getting wins with deckchecks nowadays is to "accidently" drop one of your opponent's cards when shuffling their deck and then hiding the card either under your foot or on the floor or under the playmat and then request the deckcheck a bit later on.
If you get caught you just go "haha oops I'm just a little nervous I guess the card must have slipped".
People still get caught doing this version of the trick nowadays but its easier to pretend it was a mistake instead of marking cards.

But Konami ARE assholes for still making archetypes that don't have the decency to be at least immune to Ash in 2015+10.

Many of the post-anime TCG exclusives feel like they're trying (and failing miserably) to be like Fire Kings. Myutants, Tistina, Ashened, but Ghoti especially.
Like Ghoti has some cards that read good on paper, Distant Depths is just a modernized version of Fire King Island, Arionpos and Psiics are both incredible cards as a Denglong equivalent and extender that Fire Kings, and any comparable decks like Maliss or Crystron, would love to have. The problem is that every other Ghoti card is so ridiculously below the power curve it's insane, even with a strict comparison to Fire Kings, Fire Kings doesn't have Eternity Garunix only trigger on the opponent's standby phase and slowly begin to set up after passing on Ponix pass like Ghoti does, Fire King isn't designed around the idea that it will always go first and will always sufficiently deal with the opponent's hand that all they have to do is OTK turn 3, Fire King doesn't have almost all its interactions be on field so a single boardbreaker blows it the fuck out, Fire Kings actually has negation and on demand disruption so it isn't succumbing to having nothing for must negates or desperately trying to play catchup against an increasing series of on summon effects

On the contrary: the price helps cause the dickery. It breeds a sense of entitlement that you spent your life savings on cardboard, and informs you that your opponent probably did the same - bad combo for when things get heated or greed for stealing a card gets the better of you.

My plan is to wait 3 to 6 months and do a progression series that adds sets in a randomized order. In theory, the early weeks should provide some interesting decks since cards will be introduced in a different environment and staples will be few. The idea is that it's going to be a hybrid of AMC and the failed limited card pool format I tried This time without Power of The Elements, HOLY SHIT what was I thinking? I'd like more interaction with the ZEXAL cards so I can finally make King Overfiend turbo a thing, I'd like a new ZW Xyz for Leo Ray to equip and not be a bricky motherfucker, I'd like for Dragonar to do something after using all his mats, maybe a secondary RUM searcher. I've been following this deck since LIOV and I've really loved playing it ever since. I kinda think slowing the deck back down to just sitting on either Leo or Dragonic would make it more competitive.

The effect is good too, it's just an addition interrupt basically on either players main phase and it's graveyard effect is good too. It's genuinely not bad but because you will almost always want to be going into Hate Rose/using Violent Witch early on to start generating advantage it fucks you over from going into this.

The Rose deck can't afford to go into a link 2 like Crossrose and then still have enough starters to continue doing all the other stuff, you have to go into the other stuff to get the advantage to begin with.

In fact now that I am thinking about it, the fact that accessories are so scarce is genuinely weird. Why aren't Tokens just inserted into packs? Same goes for those Counter cards the OCG have, or the Turn reminders, or even just shoving in Field Centers.

I think it will provide a missing avenue to the game where you get hit by one of the draw handtraps and you just can't really play into it because you will just lose via sheer card advantage. With the above CaC, it gives players a reason to keep playing into Mulcharmies or Maxx C and makes those cards have less of a stranglehold on the dynamic of the game.

The current system just simply isn't working, its entirely reliant on Konami releasing bonkers broken retarded cards for the TCG to rarity bump so the vendors can resell singles to consumers who cannot reasonably access them the standard way.
If a set lacks said broken bonkers retarded cards, then it just simply flops. Stores lose out on money, and whatever dogshit is in there is picked up by the consumers on the cheap. This is good for consumers but terrible for stores.
The OCG rarity system isn't even the only solution to the problem. General access to cards would help out greatly.
As of right now, you can expect to get in a £60 booster box

I've said it before, but Konami just needs to up the rate of Ultras and Secrets to insane levels to allow it to actually be viable to open product as a consumer.
If they made a dedicated Ultra/Secret slot in each pack (so 7 Commons, 1 Super, 1 Ultra/Secret) then that would clean up a lot of shit. Give out like 6 or 8 Secrets per box, tripling the rate.

We need to move away from this idea that buying boxes is bad. Regular ass players should not feel incentivized to ONLY buy singles.
The reason I always advocate for the OCG system is not just because they fix the rarity issue by giving access to lower rarity versions of cards, it's also because their box prices as so vastly cheaper than our own. You can buy boxes in the OCG and not feel like it's some monumental financial decision. DBP boxes go for around £18 a box. EIGHTEEN POUND FOR A DBP. Yeah there's less packs per box (and maybe less cards per pack I think?) but dude that's fucking well worth the trade off for how cheap the boxes are. Regular core set boxes are like £28 a box.
Casuals and competitive players alike would eat boxes up for that price.

If you look at other card games, the reason why their draft shit works is they create cards to be as generic as possible.
MTG for example has most of their cards not even mention another Type, mostly focusing on supertypes (so in our case it would be like most cards focusing on the fact Spells exist or a Synchro is somewhere or does something). This is excellent for Draft as most cards generally function.
Yugioh is so hyper-specific in most situations that its a miracle any card activates without specific intentional lab-tested deckbuilding. I just picked a random card from DOOD (Magnifistorming Megala) and its incredibly specific
