You need to learn that locations in Mario shift and change to fit the needs of the game. Do you think if we ever go to Sarasaland that we'll be walking through Shy Guy Bazaar to get to Daisy's palace? Of course we won't. I'd be surprised if Nintendo even put anything surrounding the palace. In this case, for a fully K Rooled New Donk Nintendo modernised the city so they could have all of the plentiful K Rool signs and screens.

I'm playing the Rareware DKC games for the first time (only played the Retro Studios ones), just beat DKC1.
It wasn't bad, had good atmosphere and charm, but by the second half, Rare's "we made Battletoads" pedigree was showing. Not in terms of straight difficulty, but plenty of stuff ramming into you from offscreen with only 2 frames to react, and just rote memorization. Plus forcing you to marathon the levels repeatedly, with how stingy it was about savepoints.

I keep hearing DKC2 is better, does it (and 3) end up relying on plain pattern memorization as heavily?

Even Birthright and Revelation mogs the other nu-FE games in gameplay. As for characters, at their worst I don't really see a difference between them and other nu-FE games. Character quality went off a cliff after Tellius and even then for every good support you had some real trash ones.

I used to be a "Mareacher" as in I was hyped to see Mario and Peach get married only because I saw it as a big happening in the gaming industry.
But I also noticed how Super Mario Odyssey was hyping up Mario and Pauline, so in the back of my mind, I wondered if Nintendo was going to bring Mario and Pauline back together, but I was more interested in witnessing Mario and Peach get married.
When that didn't happen, I was disappointed and confused, but I moved on.

Something that slowly dawned on me is that everyone in this game refers to Donkey Kong as DK. I thought it was just a cute thing Pauline had reading the initials on his tie, but VoidCo, most friendlies, and even Diddy & Dixie just call him DK. And Donkey Kong Island is now "DK Island". My initial thought is, "okay, DK os just short for Donkey Kong" -- but why are all the Kongs calling him that, too, but they all refer to each other with first names? Outside of the title screen and DK Rap (a legacy theme), nothing as far as I can tell directly names the title character Donkey Kong so far.
So my next thought is: is this a subtle way of telling us that this Kong isn't the same Donkey? Think about it. I know things are crazy enough with the Pauline theories, but this can be another, overlooked clue on what's really going on.

Honestly, glad I watched a review before purchasing - it kind of borders on false advertising. I have no interest in the camera and/or mouse games which is just a barrier to getting into the game in a social setting. So, at worst, I am just left with an expensive performance patch that I cannot even apply to the original game unless I pay for mini-games/modes that I don't really want to play anyway. For the price, I'd have wanted them to update the main game, add a few dozen more mini-games, half a dozen new characters, and a two or three new boards. I hope they don't fuck up the Kirby expansion pack as bad as this.

The Switch 2 edition can play online with Switch 1 consoles using the original game, so maybe they limited it because they didn't want people on Switch 2 to have any advantages over people playing on the old hardware. Splatoon 3 has a free Switch 2 upgrade. It boosts the resolution all the way to 4k in matches when docked and it never caused any issues when playing with Switch 1 players. So I don't think it's a compatibility thing, but that the devs didn't want players on one platform to have any advantage over another. Although if the Splatoon devs didn't care about that then I don't see why the Mario Party devs should. Even if there was an advantage in some minigames or whatever it'd be minimal and it's not like this is a hardcore competitive game where every pixel counts.

its just a shame you get this great extensive moveset and most bosses are as easy as running at them and mashing attack. the best was probably void kong since he actually used a bunch of varying mechanics that gave you lots of possible ways to approach his boss fight.

I just finished the first major level. Spent a ton of time just smashing through stuff, collected all the bananas and fossils. I have around 40 balloons, 67000 gold, and over 800 coins.

What I noticed about chests is that they're not placed deliberately, they randomly spawn in terrain you're destroying. They drop maps in a general order of progression, so you can spend half an hour destroying a ton of terrain with Kong Bananza and get nearly everything marked on your map. I noticed that I would hit a point where I ran out of maps to collect for 101 and only got gold and balloons. But even when I got to 102, map drops were infrequent.

When can I return to previous layers, and is my destruction from before maintained?
