I think Don's/Sancho's character would have been better if she didn't have the memory loss, instead her bloodfiend life and memories of her family being burried due to how traumatic the betrayal of Papa Quixote was to her, choosing to remain in the lighthouse for 200 years, spending her time constantly reading fixer stories and writing letters to distance herself from what could be described as a traumatic event
Could still be recruited by Vergilius later down the line, with her wish being to become the righteous fixer of justice (fixer license on a surface level, continuing the dream on a deeper level)
And her acting like a retard, breaking taboo in the kcorp checkpoint, etc. can be seen as her not knowing how to behave after 200 years of isolation, with it all culminating in the bus coming to Pcorp to deal with LaMancha Land, with Don being reminded of her supressed memories, recognizing the Barber, Priest, etc. her mood being clearly soured from this "family reunion", culminating in her finding out Papa Quixote is still alive and casting away Rocinante to rush to his rescue, blaming herself for "abandoning" him those all those centuries ago, killing anything and anyone that stands in her way like. Sort of similar to what happens in the canto, but with some tweaks.
