I think Chapter 4 Season 3 is where the seasons started feeling cheaper/halfassed.

C4S1 and C4S2 were fun and had a lot of effort put into them, but C4S3 and C4S4 felt cheap and sloppy and not in a fun way. It carried over to C5S1 and C5S2 as well and only pulled out of the nosedive of laziness around C5S3.

ch4s3 gets a lot of shit, but i dont think that it was much worse than the two seasons before it. people just got upset about graphics settings basically invalidating a massive biome on the map, and it became very obvious by that point that the chapter 4 plot would not matter whatsoever and would be a perpetual "big stuff is coming, wait till next season to see!"
ch4s4 was fine, but the "crew skin kills the bad guy off screen" left such a bad taste in my mouth that ive all but written it off. rocket ram was fun though.

As far as I’ve read Unreal was only picked for Pikmin due to realism being its main use, and the other two games are made by third party companies who don’t have access to internal tools

During this era when they worked together Nintendo offered to by Monolith Soft from them due Namco suggesting it, that also led to a deeper relationship forming between the companies.
Currently they are set to take of Smash Bros if Sora decides to not work on it, they’re also helping with Kirby Air Ride.
They’re even in the credits of Xenoblade 3 not because they worked on it but because they gave them permission to officially connect Xenosaga to Blade.
Quite frankly the relationship these two companies have is enough that Sony attempted to increase their shares in Namco to limit this.
