nta but my guess is that from how it's seems now even with so much of the light being released distortions being more common than ever makes it hard to imagine that distortions ever being fully eliminated even if that last bit of light is released.
With that said though, I'm of the opinion that if the SoL had properly gone off without a hitch, there would have been no distortions as there's several characters that state as much in Ruina.
Another possibility that I did consider however was that perhaps this feature may have applied to the first SoL. Basically, if the first SoL had gone off fully, there would be no distortions, but since it was interrupted it allowed Carmen to essentially hijack it and establish herself within the light, which was never intended. And once Carmen is there, that means that the distortion phenomena itself can never truly go away, only reduced. Although thinking about it, if the second SoL was fully realized, perhaps that might have also sealed the distortion phenomena since it seemed like Angela was essentially preparing to act as Carmen's eternal jailer and lock her away, before Roland pulled her out. At least, that's how I see it.

Kind of the gist of it. They knew Carmen was the ideal candidate, but she was also their team leader so they were basically looking for alternatives which led to Enoch volunteering. Of course, Enoch dies because he's not suited, and Lisa's words cuts deep because she knew that she was a perfect fit, but because she was nervous/afraid she pushed that onto Enoch who died pointlessly since he couldn't become a bucket anyway.
So she feels guilty, everyone is working themselves to death, so she decides to kill herself so they can make a bucket out of her, and that way they can cure the disease of the mind and save humanity. She basically convinces herself that she's making a heroic, noble sacrifice that will lead to a fairy tale ending. Of course, the moment she actually tries to go through with it, she basically freaks out and decides that she doesn't actually want to do this, she wants to live, regardless. But too late, she dies, and gets turned into the bucket. Being the bucket for thousands of years probably wasn't great, but unlike a lot of people I don't really think Carmen went insane or was tortured or anything like that. She's pretty lucid and pleasant and doesn't really seem like it bothered her that much. Honestly the thing that probably hurt her the most was being forced to watch Ayin torture himself for centuries trying to accomplish their plan. But anyway, her dying experience convinced her that it was impossible for someone to genuinely sacrifice themselves for others from the bottom of their heart; after all, she was sacrificing herself to save the world, but she couldn't go through with it, so how could anyone else? Which leads to her pushing her 'be happy and distort' philosophy.' Although her worldview is proven wrong when Ayin and later Angela choose to sacrifice themselves for others, but she's probably coping that they're coping about their sacrifice.

Maybe in another universe. Ruina still fucked over the Sephirah really hard, they barely have any screentime and more than half of it was spent on them retelling what happened in lobcorp.
Sinners have a much better characterization simply because they just have more screentime. There are still some bad apples among the sinners like she who shall not be named, but characters like Yi Sang and Heath have been really enjoyable to read about over the past few years, and that kind of growth didn't really happen with the sephirah.
