Even putting aside the very screwy timeline that we have with Nemomas and all the events (which implies, the 8 years are legit), at minimum a year has passed in game since the start of the LB arc. They needed a few weeks/months to get to the Wandering Sea, then spent at least until New Year there, since that's when Olga nuked them post-Chunguska (all while flying between LBs once the Storm Border got active), then they flew around for a few weeks until Traum, then a few more days from there till LB7. Then a few more weeks until OC1, and presumably several more until OC2. OC3 had to take place in Summer, so that's a few months after that even. And OC4 presumably also took some weeks/months. At minimum they should have spent a year and a half on the bleached earth by now, and at least half a year on the Storm Border, where they have open view of the sky.

No, the story written by Nasu textually says that this is just his solitary decision, and far from calling it "omniscient", this decision is described as the, this is a textual quote, "no more than the instinctual reflex of a cold-blooded insect". Because this is based on a story where the also unconscious, unfeeling planet decides that life on its carcass must cease, not for any elaborate reason, but solely because it does not reflect its definition of life. The entire thing is portrayed as being basically just a problem of definitions not meeting an arbitrary standard of "correctness", and the ones taking those definitions are portrayed as doing so by unfeeling, crude algorithm. Having just done the quest, the only parts you "need" are the last 2-3 teams. Your teams leading up to Olga just need to be good enough to clear 9 waves in 20 turns or so, since you can pause the turn timer once you get to Olga. Functionally that means a bunch of random servants with class advantage and 50% starting NP CEs. Took me 16 turns with 7 teams and no meta supports.
Olga is basically just a standard challenge quest except you can cycle through however many teams you have left. Throw class advantage and whatever good supports you have at the first three bars and let mash nuke the last one.
