You know what I've not seen anyone talk about? That Phrolova's desire for her struggle to finally end was much greater than her desire to see it through, to truly complete it. Because what happened in the end? She started a fight with Rover to the death over the gem, like she really badly needed it, but instead of defending herself when it come down to it, she prioritized handing the gem over to Cristoforo while taking the attack, even though both the action and inaction are completely contrary to her continuing working towards her goal - giving away the gem and also "dying" herself. And instead of doing what she originally wanted to do with the gem's merging power, she took the "good enough" way out and merged with the Lost Beyond instead, now trapped together with her people in the tiny village, instead of really bringing them back.
