It would have left him with only one Steelclad Knight instead of two at the end of the turn. Granted, I didn't know he had Olivia into Quickblader to follow up, so I'm essentially kicking myself for nothing and you can't predict the future, but it did push up his kill threshold. Remove the free 16 spellboost they get from A&G and Kuon.
Suddenly, to actually be able to William you for 69 damage or actually win the game, they need to spend all their time casting spells. And if they spend all their time casting spells just to power up their spellboost payoffs, they can't afford to play Norman.
If they play Norman without infinite followerboost in their deck, he's just a brick that makes them lose the game because healing for 8 doesn't mean shit if your William does 2 damage and your DClimb costs 16pp.

Not necessarily 3 Annes, but a pretty typical game sees at least 1 Anne or onion girl and at least 1 Kuon by turn 7. Usually more than that.
But also I main CAbyss, so that's my perspective - in some games the boostard gets to play his entire deck and I have to deal with the headache of having to deal 56 damage to his face to kill him on top of him having infinite spellboost from the onions and a 50 card deck.
