I do not care for Resident Evil despite being a huge fan of horror. My problem is I don't know where to start with such a big franchise. Everyone will tell you something different. Some say play RE2 REMAKE And others say play RE4. My favorite horror game franchise of all time is Dead Space, which is basically Resident Evil in space but Resident Evil lacks any science fiction horror and comes off as pretty generic in my opinion. I was in pure shock when the remake was announced. Even more ecstatic when it released, the remake was a love letter to everything Dead Space has set up in the last decade, most notably having Gunner reprise his role as Isaac. It's a damn shame Dead Space is an EA IP. Meaning we'll probably never get another Dead Space game. Man. The remake felt like a fever dream for me.

Nothing extra about this. It's the fifth MCI kid, referenced as far back as the first game.

I truly don't mind the brightly colored eyes in the movie (I think they make for a cool visual and the animatronics can still be made creepy with them depending on the atmosphere of the scene) but Withered Foxy's eyes clearly flickering would seem to indicate they're an actual function of the animatronics, which begs the question why they'd build robots intended for children's entertainment with threatening aura as a design feature

Real Time was made by amateur gamedevs, that goes without saying, but devs that had absolutely no experience with making a good horror experience, let alone understanding what made FNAF 1 work. The animatronics moving around slow as hell over the course of five real life hours with an overly-generous power supply doesn't work and kills the pacing and tension. The central mechanic of the game, which they got down to a science in the first game! that they're remaking is an afterthought.

As for not understanding horror, I', not gonna act like FNAF is a masterclass horror game but it fails to build dread when you can clearly see where an enemy is headed on the map, not to mention the fucking bossfight with loud music blasting and phoneguy doing one liners. FNAF1 laid out "this is how you do this and this is how you make it work" and making a game where "its exactly the same but longer" should have been easy but here we are. Champions of not getting it.

Will say, deeply hilarious how thats their first major game and then they then immediatly start a kickstarter like they're capable of making something you'd want to pay for.

Well I would mention that animatronic shows were usually dimly lit because the lights would melt the masks faster than they do in storage but well I don't see how illuminating the eyes helps with lighting. Just makes it more creepy. Then again they could be just kept them off as in they tested with audiences but saw that it creeped kids out. But the ghost kids turn them back on to up the scariness. Basically it could be an unused feature.

The creepiest shit about the FNAF 1 animatronics is how dead they look. They don't have any real expression on their faces. No real emotion. It's all empty in there. It's like a corpse getting up and walking towards you.

I agree that all of that massively undercuts much of the animatronics' original fear factor but I just take it as an adaptational difference, I can understand why for a movie you'd want to play into their personality more and rely more on the framing around them as opposed to the designs to adjust to how as a passive observer you're no longer viewing them through a first person perspective. I don't think it's "raaaaaa they dumbed it down for kids" like some people say, since the movie (while not being remotely shit your pants scary) still overall very much so feels like a horror movie tonally and even a lot of the stuff shown pushed the limits of pg-13 (to the point it was rated 15 in other countries, i'd categorize the FNAF movie as more along the lines of the It movies or Stranger Things. meaning I don't find those remotely scary but not to the point I wouldn't call them horror)

The main issue was that the lead dev is a literal megatroon (I say this in the most truthful manner possible, paperplate OC is actually a tranny too) who hired random guys and forced them to pump out shit with barely any time so they rushed.

The lead dev is also why IRT was so much of a fanfic. People rightfully expected FNaF1 but with moving robots and a 6 hour mode and instead got Minecraft thumbnails, HOLY FAZBALLS, Donald Duck, Foxy sperging out while heavy techno makes everyone deaf and of course GF being reduced to a second-rate cameo.

What's funny is even the minor gameplay changes suck ass. The robots switching doors ruins their gimmicks. Cameras switching is annoying as fuck, and destroys the whole reason IRT exists (to see the animatronic animations). It's so bad...

This is subjective and i'd also only put Ruin down as "decent", all of Scott's games past FNAF1 arguably have much more glaring flaws than something like SOTM as games. I can understand why people don't like the lore additions but SOTM is also probably the only game other than ITP that has a compelling largely self contained narrative

He's also expressed in the same breath that he puts all the blame for Security Breach on himself because of the lack of communication and that he'll be much more hands on going forward, as evident by the fact he got the writer credit on SOTM as opposed to just "created by Scott Cawthon". The books fall in the latter category because they're also "From Scott Cawthon" instead of "Written by Scott Cawthon", you can hear his style of writing in things like SOTM and the FNAF movie when compared to things like Security Breach or (most of) the books

I agree with the thesis of this video but not the attitude of it, Ruin is almost as deeply flawed as Security Breach but I do think it put them on the right track and I think it's commendable they made a testing ground for something bigger and better (SOTM) with a free DLC instead of another half baked paid product. The outlook on Steel Wool as devs feels pretty uncharitable, because they clearly do understand where they've gone wrong and care about improving even if they're allergic to addressing their mistakes directly (their approach ever since Security Breach speaks louder than Jtop saying they'd never go back to "fix" the game because "we're happy that we made some fans happy!! we don't want to mess with something someone might love :(")

I like the premise of Afton being interviewed on live TV. Feels like who he is to people outside social circle isn't an angle you see covered as much in fanworks.

If you continue with it I might suggest going with a more centralized perspective. I thought it was a little disorienting to show William's hallucinations at the end of the scenewhile also showing his persona slipping earlier in the fic, as if from the interviewer or an audience member's perspective. I like that idea of him having these kinds of lapses, it just feels at odds with how the scene's ending shows us his subjective viewpoint.

While I do wish Jackie had more then one section of screentime, I think they genuinely just pre-animated all of Jackie's sections because imagine being the animator who has to work with Jackie's rig.

Lillard's Afton definitely has a cold side to him as seen with Steve Raglan and the abuse written all over Vanessa's face, he channels Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin as the Yellow Rabbit however since he's deeply pathetic and gets off to being perceived as larger than life. we'll probably get a more sinister "normal" Afton with Vanessa's flashbacks in movie 2

It feels like he wanted to do a FNAF 1 adaptation without having the robots as the antagonists, but also didn't want to have William as a major character until 3.

I wouldn't say the animatronics aren't antagonists in the movie, they're framed as friendly partly through the movie but that's only because it was all an act to gain Abby's trust and make her "like them". The biggest thing the movie is missing is them acting hostile more consistently, the vandals only really exist because otherwise the animatronics would only be in kill mode during the very beginning and very end. Mike spends most of his time in Freddy's dreaming about a forest with absolutely zero instances of him doing your traditional security guard stuff, which doesn't detract too much from the movie for me as I like the story and general set-up of Mike progressively uncovering the mystery through his dreams (they kind of feel like live action lore mini-games) but I can totally understand why people find it lacking

It would seem that Scott thought he needed a workaround for the whole "why would the security guard keep coming back every night if he knows it's certain doom?" thing, FNAF2 seems like it's going to be a middle ground with a lot more action but a lot of it also happening outside the pizzeria and to randos
