Everybody Storming Edition

Dominions is a fantasy turn-based war game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher.
The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 3400 units, 1100 spells and 400 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them. It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.
Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a war game.

so 15 precision is actually 20
distances under your precision are hit with 100% accuracy (IIRC)
more than that and you start to have deviation

the shot leading sucks in dom5 and dom6 so in most cases even perfect precision isn't great (assuming there is a projectile)

Precision is not that good. Precision 15 (20 in calculations) would only be accurate out to 8 squares. Precision 18 (really 26) would be accurate out to 11.

spit your dudes in two or three blocks and put them on the left edge on hold and attack with your Commander between them in 3x hold stay behind troops.
pd does not attack rear, they move to attack "something". if your army is in one block then they will only have two working targets to choose from your army and your Commander. if the pd has multiple blocks one is bound to roll your Commander as a their target and wrap around your line to hit him.
the further back your army is the more spaced out the pd is going to be then they hit your line allowing you to have local numerical superiority, this only works if your dudes have ~the same movement speed. but this also stops the 100+ pd armys from wraping around

Omukade may be less impressive in practice than on paper. Their 20 protection is good, but might not be good enough for a size 7, 13 MR unit with 9 defense and 16 combat speed causing them to zoom ahead alone, and their summoning-turn efficiency is poor.
Do Jorogumo have assassination or seduction skill in any of its forms? If not, it might be buggy, maybe ask Illwinter.
Okami look cool, not powerful, but you get many of them, and they have magic weapon bites.
Dai Oni may be a fun summon late, but wraith lords are good as well.

Gems are harder to come by then gold. Ermor's weakness is that you depend on RNG for your sites to get the gems you need and even then that's a mage turn spent on summoning more mages. Being able to buy some mages early on to research and site search is a big advantage.

I should have taken the vampire lords more seriously in hindsight. I sort of just ignored then and mopped up behind them with sauros every now and then, which was fine, until you (I presume you're sauro) stole my well of misery then I went balls deep trying to get it back and had that really stupid fumble where I lost all my wights.

I enjoyed the constant manifestation + ghost riders spam.

I pump out 2 vamp lord each turn ever since the blood vortex. In total maybe 25-30, but half doesn't have gear, and i can afford to forge items for 2 a turn. And yep the moment you start the mind hunt i was forging pendant en masse. They already have 17 mr so i wasn't that worried, but 21 mr would be near impossible to kill without pen gear

Yeah I already had them kitted with mr pen gear so I probably couldn't squeeze out much more.
Oh well. I was spamming dust warriors at that point, which I wish I'd done earlier. I waited 5 turns for a tart with FD before realising the monstrum I had sitting around already had FD. Those things have an absolutely insane stat block in my dominion when I take heat since its like heat 2 native so they end up with a 19att/20def stat block without buffs since my dominion ended up heat 4 a good portion of the year. Its insane.

Spam storm demons, give the national item to their best mage, and have flying armies where their mages buff the storm demons with enlargement, strength and storm (storm power) for increased ranged lightning damage? i had a bog standard Fortitude, regen and schock resistance on a Monolith bless. i just added low light vision because i planned at the start to go for caves and then summon the four dwarves in the midgame with the possibility of adding the galegate in the lategame. i suffered the experience of that combo in the sparks disciples game and wanted to share that misery with some other players.
Sadly I had no caves close to me and i fucked um my pretender paths, while going from drain 2 to drain 1 i moved air from 4 to 2 denying me the dwarves until i empowered my pretender, but air gems there to important for such investments until lategame there the dwarves would hurt me more than the other players, while also making me the target of all the players.

Expansion as a giant nation is not all that hard, you recruit as many giants as you can and recruit a priest commander to lead them every other turn.
Sadly my expansion was rather slow because i had a coastal cap and from my four land provinces one had barbs, one lizards and one had something like 3 bloodhenge druids forcing me to leave my capring until i had a good number of giants.
After expansion was done and i had a good number of indi scouts ging i had a rather good idea of that was going on in my surroundings.
RΒ΄ley was fighting atlantis and was not interested in annoying me.
Ctis in my south west had heat 2 and would have been a great early war target but we had a realy awkward border that i did not want to fight trough, in addition ctis and hinnom there already fighting and i would rather fight ctis later than help hinnom win that war and then have to deal with him myself.
In my north was Tir na nΒ΄Og and my border with him was worse that my border with Ctis, i got a quick nap with him because i did not want to get elfed and then ignored him.
This only left my with lanks as my early war. He has had the best expansion and was already building multiple forts, but while he was investing his gold in in infrastructure and mages i did not even recruit mages in my cap all my gold was going into more giants. I simply rolled over him and got my first palisades by conquering his right after he build them. He went ai after i caped his cap, but that just moved the war into an annoying direction as the ai immediately bought all mercs it could buy and started raiding.
With Lanka dead i got some more neighbours, but while i would have wanted to also kill Kailasa and Mictlan because they had at that point in the game no answer to firegiant stepping on their cap i instead started to invest into my Research, to get to my answers to the Ubar i now bordered.
Ubar was grabbing all the provinces he could and was at that point by far the biggest on the map.

I allied with TΒ΄ien Ch`i to force Ubar to fight on two fronts and hopefully split his raiding forces. TΒ΄ien Ch`i also recruited Oceania into the war and claimed to get Tir na nΒ΄Og and Marverni ropped in, but they never showed up. I also tried to get some more allies but i think fucked up and send my larpy messages to people that did not border Ubar confusing them instead of getting allies.
The war against ubar was not that exiting, i finally started recruiting muspel Jarls and kitting them. Spirit Masks are a cheap way to get Spirit Sight and some mr, frost brands i brought from TΒ΄ien Ch`i as i had no water mages but wgems and Weighless Tower Schilds and Boots of the messenger are always useful and i made tons of them.
btw: enchanted Salt is a scam i used all my egems to give all my muspel Jarls one and it did nothing, anything else in the misc slot would have been more useful. If somebody knows how to make them work please tell me because i have no clue.
In the war against Ubar i simply but my main stack onto his cap while raiding and counterraiding with my jarls. then i had to wait till i researched Ench 6 for Fay-eyed Warriors to storm his cap, because i feared he get all his raiding jins to kill my giants on his cap
But while i waited on ubars Cap TΒ΄ien Ch`i managed to get his armys blown up by said Jins because he send them simply in with just some random mages and no plan.
Meanwhile Oceania got ubars southern lands and gave reports on there Ubars pretender was.
In the end i got ubars cap and its surroundings, Oceania the south and TΒ΄ien Ch`i got ubars throne and 3 forts.
While this was going on sauromatia and Ctis stated their deathwar while killing Vanheim and caelum seemingly incidentally. Funnily Caelum ai survived between them because its two forts there sieged by eventindies. And the Throne of Bureaucracy and the Throne of the Sun also never got touched. I think both of them would have wanted these 5 fgems to spam more dust walkers.

the Hellheim, Maverni and Tir na nΒ΄Og trieangle never much of anything, Maverni did not even get the thrones that there in his territory and he had the Thrones of creation and abundance. Hellheim woke up once Oceania gone ai and starded slowly taking his land provinces. And Maverni conquered Tir na nΒ΄Og after he went ai, but he let me vulture like half of Tir na nΒ΄Og.
Oceania killed Yomi and Therados and then ether fell asleep or lost the will play. He went ai in a still decent position.
Meanwhile Rley killed atlantis and started skirmishing with Agatha, but as a whole he sat in his pond and did nothing.

I planed to join all the people doing nothing and started searching my land and slam Dreamstones, Owlquils and Skullmentors to get up to lightless lanterns as fast as possible to catch up in Research and get Eternal Pyre up. But while i was doing what Tir na nΒ΄Og, Mictlan and Kailasa gone ai and i vultured that i could from them. I even got Mictlans cap accelerating my blood eco i was trying to set up at the same time.
my Plan was to blitz Ctis once Eternal Pyre got heat up to atleast 4 and my candles with gift of healt there on one or two of his forts.
But everything changed then TΒ΄ien Ch`i brocke his nap with me.

But with this war i finally got a water province allowing me to summon a queen of water. This surprised me because i assumed with all the water nations someone should have picked up his water harem, instead i got it.
At this point i entered a clown dimension because Rus also attacked me pulled then back, but said to me that he indeed wants to fight me. just to then stall 6 times and then go also ai.
And while i was dealing with what i got a message from pyrene that he is bored, this was his reasoning to put a 1000 cavecows on one of my forts. he got that fort but i killed that "army" with good old living fire spam. Sadly i did not have the time to post that battle in thread. after i wiped out this he also gone ai.
At that point my turns had clown music playing because while my scouts watched a fun deathwar i had to deal with 4 ais screaming "random bulshit go" while cracking one or two forts a turn.
i also got like 150 gems and spend most of them on forging and rituals. I have 30+ amulets of antimagic and resilience and messager boots as a standart kit floating around on mages and jarls

unholy weapons is a great counterpick, but ctis killed hinnoms giants that had better attack density witch Serpent dancers and weights.
because of attack density you can also chop them up with with a sufficed amount of barbarians, cav or lizard slaves because every Muspel giant costs 140 gold and kills at best an unit a turn
skellespam or evos like frozenhart also work somewhat. and in the mid/lategame you can put +strength and ap weapons on your troops with 2hand weapons to just kill them
cursing them is also great because that an 5% chance to get a affliction on every damage

depends on what you have in your bless and what kind of giant it is. If you're lanka, one option involves overcoming their regeneration. But that is easier said than done

if you have the bless in >>533516465, and you're up against muspel giants of >>533506835, then:

could do blood sabbath stuff if you have the research for it, skelespam, battlefield enchantments, etc., and regeneration means probably not dying of sabbath fatigue. But you probably won't have the research if being rushed

could try diplomacy and scouting and do diplomancy if you start next to muspel

at the end of the day, regen + fire and shock resistance is as Muspel said giantbait, at least in the early game. Might be the case that you will have to accept that you either: run the risk of straight up losing if you start next to muspelheim; or plan and pick a different bless. Regeneration is great on lanka if lanka gets research due to blood sabbaths, but if you get rushed by muspelheim before then, it doesn't matter. It's fair to run such a risk, just be aware of it. Try to identify the biggest threats to your bless, and plan accordingly, or just accept them as risks

you mention other blesses, namely unholy weapons. Quickness is great for overcoming regeneration. Fear and dread could be used as asymmetrical counter, muspel giants have relatively low morale, but that requires your demons to survive long enough

some things i lernend in this round:
lore of legends exists i wasted quite a number of gems and blood slaves empowering that i did not need to waste
Vengful Water: is shit in 6 compared to 5, size 3 water eles cant even reliable kill scouts even with the hp boost from gift of heath and water aces does not even guaranty the size 7 eles. While a nerf was necessary this one moved Vengful Water from always cast to never cast
Eternal Pyre: on the other hand is now retarded, scales going up to 5 makes everything with firepower great, but you also get one or thwo mages a turn and they dont come naked but instread come with five or six fgems if its a 3f mage or with at lest wit 2 fgems 2egems and 2perls if its the 2f1e2s mage.
in the time i had it up i got 23 3f and 8 2f1e2s mage that are at lest 131 fgems nearly the amount of gems i put into it, while also giving me the earth astral crosspath that until then i only had on my pretender.
faery queen: them not being a3n3 anymore is annoying but instead you now get the earth nature crosspath giving them streng of gaia making them an even better N caster, while the Air Glamor can still cast wailing winds and some of the higher G spells making it more of a Siedegrade. You just have to watch their morale its still shit.
Blitzmin already said it but if you can cast the hidden in spells if you have the temp scales they are ridiculous.

Muspelheim is, i think, the definition of a getting a ball rolling nation.
you have to sacrifice everything you can, but as long as you can win you first war and secure your mid game you have a clear road to Victory.
your mages are expensive but have good paths and can forge reseachboosters in Air, Glamour and Death allowing you to force con 7 for flightless lanterns on the back of your giants fighting without magesupport.
And once you have them you can catch up on Research and start properly buffing your giants, shutting down many counters.
But you also have the magepaths to ignore your giants in the late game and commit to communion bullshit, i just never had to.

Overall they are in unsurprising in the same class as niefelheim in that if you want to dump your temp scales you better look first if one of the giants is not in the game to fuck you up and if you do dump your temp scales have something ready to deal with the giants coming to kill you.

Fatigue play, false damage, and cold damage. Heat cloud doesn't do anything against illusions. You can drop the temp using rituals if you have good water and cast ice cloud. Pixies can spam elf shot which will get through the mr at some point and sleep the giant. Each illusory army is 20 illusions. Frozen heart. Simple things like diseases if you have N or D.

Are you playing in singleplayer?

The only troops I'd use against Uruk are the ax guys, and archers if they're using the unhelmeted troops. Problem with the hurlers is they only have 2 ammo for 35 gold. Gigante warriors are not very good.

You can kill them with big fire/earth evocations. Magma eruption, falling fires, bane fires. Or you can buff and gear gigante and cyclopes commanders. Earthpower, ironskin, fire shield, temper flesh, phoenix pyre eventually. Or, you buff helotes with +strength earth spells and flaming arrows.

I had to declare war on you because you were too powerful and leaving you be any longer would be gg. Though I had no clue what to do against regen fire giants since my main strategy relied on exploding meme ghosts. I tried to just turtle up, enchant walls and and hope someone else would come to my aid but everyone hated me after I cast Wrath of God lol. Which caused Oceania to rage quit who was my only other ally nearby. Then I just decided maybe foul vapors would work, nope, maybe holding the gates would work, nah he can fly. I tried mass raiding which worked okay but as soon as my castles got locked down it was hard to do anything.

I know you said use weapons of sharpness but that shit is hard to put on human sized dudes fighting 50+ giants.
I know you weren't actively mounting up dudes on my border and was probably thinking of going elsewhere but I felt that was the turning point in the game where there was a chance to stop you, even if it was a just a dice roll. gg well played though.

Though on the topic of Ubar I managed to kill a few in assassin battles and patrolling them out, but all the armies I sent were just meant to distract while I figured out what to do. I figured at least then it would divide up his forces a bit.

i completely forgot Wrath of God 12+drn just does not kill giants, it just killed some of my scouts.
Well i was building up to become the thread but instead of simply breaking the nap and making enemies by casting Wrath of God you should have focused on dispelling Eternal Pyre.
It gave me so much value and increased the stats of my giants so much that it did not matter that that Rank and File you brought. bringing it down and casting wolven winter on your forts the moment i begun sieging them would have removed the stat advantage of my giants. Also casting Baleful Star would have made my giants collect afflictions making them battle to battle weaker.
You had guys with with 22 damage glaves for 10 gold, them buffed with 4+Strengh and ap weapons with a commander with +Morale would have killed my giants at roughly equal gold losses,but you could spam them out of all your forts while i could only get 5 giants a turn. But this strat only works in cold 2 or lower.
You would probably lost some forts in the battles but with the losses i would take i would have to slow down or even stop to gather strength.
Yea my flying Jarls there quite good. your best bet was probably to just keep them busy with shitty troops because in the end they only kill one man a turn.
In the end it was a meme Bless forced to fight a giant hellbless. If your bless had Righeuus Wrath +something, Unholy weapons +something or was something like stats+Quickness then your warriors of the of the five seasons would have killed my giants on contact with their two attacks a turn.

Thanks for the Ubar detraction btw, while he was hunting your men he did not try to break his cap siege, until i got Fay-eyed Warriors up i gave it a 60/40 on all his invisible Jins killing my Firegiants.

22 damage glaves are cool, but muspelheim can bring lots of damage aoe spells to the battlefield, and humans are fragile. Then again, t'ien ch'i has some access to small communions and elemental resistance buffs

the jarls can script fire shield and some of them can script soul vortex with a gem, and they can have aoe weapons, they often aren't bad against lots of units. T'ien ch'i can use its wide paths to easily forge eyecatchers, a cheeky master of the sword might be able to walk up and make a jarl very sad

i agree about the bless. Unholy weapons + quickness would be expensive but especially good and funny

i know he meant foul vapours, but foul air might have been painful on your giants, since they're capital units, if you didn't have gift of health. How does disease and regeneration interact in the most recent patch of dominions 6? I recall disease reducing how much regeneration heals as disease progresses, and that it was changed, either from dominions 5 to 6 or in a recent patch, but maybe i'm wrong

that's true, but fire shield increases with path level, and jarls have 3-4, making it a bit more damaging, and its damage is armorpiercing. And with regeneration + fortitude, passive damage is great, for instance if the jarl is stunned or paralyzed. It's also great against animals from swarm, who have armornegating poison attacks

I just haven't personally seen great results from it on sacred cav. It'd be a lot better if it was paired with something else, but it's very expensive and hard to stack with other blesses because of the cost of the two gumballs.

The problem with ethereal cav is that it doesn't prevent harassment penalties from piling up, it just reduces final damage intake. Also it doesn't save you from weird stuff like on-hit debuffs or unholy weapons. It's okay on sidhe lords since they can give themselves attack prevention via shroud of bewilderment, and want an additional layer of defense against arrows due to no longer getting Air Shield, but eth is on average overpriced due to the double magic requirement in my opinion.

Caelum is the one I was flaming from the sky. unless going for asrapas, stygian flesh is honestly a bit of a waste on lanka. Invulnerability doesn't stack with natural protection, and the lankan demons have some natural protection already

protection from armor, however, does stack partially with natural protection/invulnerability, with diminishing returns. The formula is something like

(armorprot+natprot) - (armorprot*natprot)/40

with neither going above 40

so skin spell buffs and invulnerability tends to give the largest value increases on units with good armor that have little natural protection beforehand

thunder strike spam is another meme with caelum. There are battle videos of armies being annihilated within a few turns by thunder strike spamming caelum mages

I can give you my impression from the latest EA game.
I went awake death weapons Dracolich thinking I'd expand and make my archers scary but diseasing my own units including Eagle King thugs ended up being a supremely stupid move. Don't do this.
A meme I tried was frontline of mistformed high prot and shock res guys set on guard commander to spam shockwaves on things getting closer to them. It works but it's also really risky. Lightning bolt/thunder strike spam should be much safer.
Another was mistformed quickened mammoths. It worked really well against elves until it didn't, and with that I mean they ended up routing and killed my mages and I went AI. But they did swing a battle for me previously against much better units than shitty birds so it's worth considering.

Underwater nations don't interact with the real nations as much so they're already starting on the bottom rung of interest. Then they're just Pan but wet, and they're 90% unchanged from EA to MA, so they just come out feeling like half-hearted placeholder content, which they likely were. If they had more unusual lifeforms pulled from medieval bestiaries and a broader cultural spread they could be cool. National monster summons, maybe terrain specific freespawn, bonuses to transformation spells or even a national variant. Maybe MA gets reworked to be more of a chaotic mix of monstrous refugees from other seas, throw in some Selkie spies, Fomorian elites, Theredosian academics, seafaring C'tisians, I dunno, just something so they aren't totally stagnant.

Protection against crossbows maybe? 25% doesn't seem worth the trouble. Its not going to be enough on its own, and anything else you do to mitigate crossbows is probably going to marginalize skeletal legion to the point you may as well not bother.
The rare sacreds with spears? Spears do so little damage and are usually on humans so no need. Fomorians have spears but I don't think 25% res is going to stop them from going full vlad tepes on you.

LA Agartha is a very strong nation in an era filled with other very strong nations. I would identify your core national advantages and disadvantages as the following:

Advantages:
>Strong path variety and strength. You have access to f2, d2, e2, w2, and s1, which is pretty great for LA, and since you have d2 as a guaranteed for offcap mages, skeleton spam is trivial.
Recruit anywhere national sacred. Blindfighters are not an amazingly strong unit, but they are a strong core which can be easily given a lot of powerful blesses and make up the majority of your force. I'd recommend a strong rainbow and/or floating, which fixes most of the issues with the blindfighter chassis.
>Excellent, cost effective summons. Ktonian legion is a fairly cost effective spell made much more effective in Sloops, and allows you to recruit hordes of cheap undead in exhange for earth income. Theres even a national spell that buffs them. You also have access to Umbrals/Penumbrals, decent ethereal lifedrain units, and Tomb Oracles, a summonable holy 3 which gives you access to your bigger magic, is sacred, and can bless your blindfighter armies.
Strong potential for battlefield wipes. You have the death to spam rigor, and can also do a lot of work with Earthquake, in particular if you took floating on your blindfighters.
>Very cheap high damage crossbows. This is just overall good in LA.
A unique national endgame with Tartarians. Because almost all of your mages have corpse stitcher, you don't need to do anything in order to get "perfect" tartarians, provided you have access to either divine name or gift of reason.

Disadvantages:

Overall, there are several ways you could play them. I generally favor a rainbow bless, with a focus on making my blindfighters as resistant to battlefield evo as possible, and if sloops is enabled I will always be taking weightless on them, as it lets them ignore friendly earthquakes. Poison res is mandatory.
In the early game, expand with cave knights, and try to break into the surface ASAP as your units are better up there than against the nightmares that dwell beneath. Try to get Riches from Beneath if you can, as you need the income and resources quite badly.
Midgame armies will probably have to phase out many of your non sacred mages for sacred ones or twiceborned ones you aren't afraid to lose, and should be commanded by Tomb Oracles. Taking a god who can summon Relief casters in the midgame should be a priority so you can do that + rigor, and you need to go down conjuration, alteration, enchantment, and eventually construction, path wise. Spamming golems is a good choice for thugs, and that gets you astral as well.
Lategame, summon tarts, kit them with const 7 gear, and go hogwild.

Surviving a hellbless mostly comes down to being a cave nation and hoping one doesn't happen. There also aren't a ton of hellbless nations in LA. Cave knights are good for some expansions but cave indies are a nightmare. Generally blindfighters and cave knights do very well against surface indies, while crossbows do better vs stuff like cavemen or cynos.

I'm getting blown out by AI shinuyama in two games. I had two sieges that flopped. The lizard cav is only a bonus play if you have a blood tendie, which you already should, to get blood surge. You shouldn't be focusing on them to be your main force, rather and elite raiding party or commander snipers early. Your game plan is always a line of cataphracts in front, and a line of cav archers in the back, enveloping the enemy with sheer width of your line and attack rear. That shit just rapes commanders even with 5 bodyguards, with the exception of maybe giants, for which you have soothsayer soul slay com and skelespam and lance charge. When you have ench 5 it's just squads of 1-3 enaries running out raiding. End game is full blood economy to get vampires.
You can ask Kailasa in the earlier EA game where Muspel won the experience of having a line of lancers and horse archers with 0 mage support just rush towards your mages and completely decimate the army.

This can be a good strategy but sometimes the AI targets your commanders instead and they get got. Also attack rear sometimes targets the enemy commanders but also sometimes just smashes into the blob of infantry for some reason, I never figured out why that's the case except I assume when the infantry blob spawns they somehow spawn on the same square as commanders and get calculated as "rear".

It's only a 50/50 chance of hitting a mount with an arrow, and it's more of a chance to actually hit the head. Undying doesn't work well enough because as you said it, the lizards are squishy. It's not like the KoTC horses that has enough protection that they can survive chip damage. Better off focusing on what is good rather than just trying to fix an unfixable flaw.

Ye you right on the unit part but you could give the manflayer/jade lizard commander a ton more longevity by simply giving them horse barding. Then the undying can actually present a certain value.

My problem with blood surge is that for me it's a "win more" bless but if the chassis dies so easily then it's not worth putting on, undying has a universal utility, if nothing else your sacred take a few more hits so something more useful can survive.

Dominions has a very, very strong defensive bias after expansion phase and first couple wars, specifically because of the strategic implications of constantly growing stacks of mages in every fort that are just passive, resource-generating defenders that also collectively get stronger with each turn of research. 6 made commanders cost more most likely to curb this in particular, but it doesn't really change the fundamental flow of the game. Weaker players will often get better at defending as fast or faster than you can snowball even if you're winning. Usually the best way to win is to secure a better economy through expansion/early wars, and just turtle up until your research and mage core can crush the opposition when it's time to take things off of research at the endgame. A good player has a lot of ways to do a lot of damage to powerful stacks even with minimal resources, especially if there's a fort.

Basically, wars get exponentially more expensive the longer the game goes, the more important the target is, and the more stuff you can field. Also, the concept of "more stuff means less attrition" from the earlygame gets flipped on its head by like research level 5 or so. Putting more stuff into a single stack is directly announcing your willingness to lose more stuff to random shenanigans. This is because magical forms of attack proliferate far more than magical forms of defense. If it wasn't leprosy then it was going to be something else, like a god projection casting evocations onto your army every turn. Leprosy is especially effective if you don't have an answer and can't win fast though. This isn't always a knowledge check in the sense that someone wins because they memorized more of the spell list, most of the time it's someone checking the spell list in real time to look for a solution to their current issue.

Defending castles is very defender sided but defending against raids is very hard yea. My rule of thumb is that the first army of dudes I send is pretty much just to test the waters, fully expecting it to get rekt.
Anyway this is why diplomacy is so important in Dominos since if someone has a strong research lead since they can indeed comfortably turtle up and fight a 1v2 or even a 1v3 if all they do is being defensive on one flank while they kill one person at a time. The ThreatTM isn't just a meme.

Sure, Sauro has shit blood hunters and not even guaranteed, or you have to use the cap only expensive mages to blood hunt, but if you are competing with a hyper competent death nation more efficient than you (cough Ctis), then you have to leverage more than just death for late game. If you have a good economy then you can fish for that blood random on forts, and it's not like W1N1 or N2 is unusable in battle. You can't rely on S for rituals so it's battle only. Vampire lord is a good chassis. It has soul vortex, resist all phys, can teleport, fly and immortal. Any spare vamps you can't gear yet can join the blood hunt operations. The wraith/bane stuff doesn't have near enough versatility. Death gems should be for wights and tarts.
My take is to have a dormant blood hunter, with very good scales and crank those horses and mages. Any bless for lizards are afterthoughts if they fit, else just grab something like mend wounds to make Tarts or a hyper Astral/Earth mage to maybe play golems. You can also do a reinvig focused bless, give every enarie a shroud and let them go solo on ench5

Nations with efficient recruitable B1/B2 mages or blood searchers are core blood nations. Nations that have some expensive B1s are just hoping to sitesearch a passive blood income, and use it to empower into B2s, who can become decent blood hunters with SDRs. You won't make a big blood economy this way, but you have to go way less out of your way to diversify into blood magic than nations that start from nothing. Also, you can still use scouts to accelerate the process if for whatever reason your nation really wants more blood.

You design a pretender in the tools menu and save it with password (important), then you join a game on blitzserver and choose your predesigned pretender, after that, everything happens in the gameclient :^)
