Petras seems like a dick, since he was talking about how he wants to murder someone first thing after the mass.

But Dal doesn't seem so bad. She seemed concerned about the well being of her "brother" when Ast was threatening him, and she also sounded worried for Ast when he comes back and says in a hopeful tone that he was free, why would he come back. As in, she considers freedom from all this to be worthwhile. So while her peer is thinking about who he's going to eat, her thoughts are about just escaping all this.

We know she killed a child, but if you read the journals, she's a doctor and she had a theory about how to cure vampirism that involved a child's blood, and since she's not in a lab setting she took the only source. Obviously we're not excusing her for this sin, but it wasn't wanton murder or self gain, and she wouldn't have done it if she could get a sample in a more humane way.

I think Petras is an example of someone who was changed by the experience, and his desire is to be the big guy vampire some day and he's a spawn in the meantime. But Dal seems to be an alright person in a bad situation. I also find it interesting that Ast is basically right in between them, at a crossroads, where he can be driven down either of their paths depending on the player's choices. You can either make him worse by ascending him and he becomes the bad guy who induulges in vampirism (Petras), or you can make him better by getting his neutral ending, where he values freedom (Dal).

I think bg3 is a pretty cool game.

Decisions decisions.

I can put asi into Dex to improve my AC by 1, my dex saves by 1, my hit and damage rolls with my offhand crossbow by 1 each, dex scaling skills by 1, and my initiative by 1. I'm using the ring of elemental infusion alongside the gloves that add stacks of frost whenever you deal cold damage, so hitting with the crossbow every turn is actually pretty beneficial so this one seems the best option. I stack 6 stacks of covered in frost in a single turn by hitting with ray of frost then shooting with my offhand elemental infused crossbow, it's pretty sweet. Haste can make it so I proc the frost stacks with another ray in the same turn if I need to.

Or I can put asi into Con to give me 12 more max hp, +1 to my concentration checks, and +1 to Con saves.

Or the one that is probably the most fun, which is the dual wielder feat, so that I can hold two staffs. I'm doing the ice build, so having both Mourning Frost and Markoheshkir at the same time is always nice. The only downside of this option is that it looks kind of stupid.

I'm also really looking forward to going to razimath's tower to get the robe of the weave so I can wear a nice robe instead of this mismatched clown outfit. I wish there were some cool wizard boots that fit the ice theme. I usually use the boots of stormy clamour on this build but these bonespike boots are +1 to ac and +1 to saves which is generically good too.

Ice wizard is my all time favorite build in this game and it's always a fun comfort pick. I love this game!

Is it me or are the melee animations and overall flow of melee combat unsatifying in this game? Like, I'm wielding a 2h sword dude and he does the same old animation whenever he hits someone. And in the case of being able to multiattack you do the 1st attack, pause, and when you choose to do a 2nd attack it does the exact same animation. Lame.
Sure there are a couple of unique animations per weapon, but they are once per short rest.

At least in WOTR a full attack brings at least 2 animations per weapon, if I remember correctly. As it stands though, the caster playthrough feels more satisfying and impressive to use visually.

How worth it is it to have an ability score one away from gaining an extra modifier? Right now I have one at 17 which gives me a +3, but the main way I see to boost it is through the ability improvement feat. I’m not even sure I’d want to take the feat over others and if I did it boosts it by 2 so either way it seems better to just have it at 16 so I can just use points elsewhere in character creation, right?

Generally yes it's useless to have an odd score, but there is a corner case worth mentioning which is ability drain. If someone drains one of your abilities by one, your ability modifier won't change if it was an odd number that had a superfluous extra point anyway. Think of it as a buffer. But the player getting ability drained is rather rare in this game and it's healed in several ways immediately after it happens, so I wouldn't actually build with this in mind.

The Resilient feat is also worth mentioning, since it improves an ability by one and gives you proficiency in the corresponding ability's save. It's not exactly one of the "good" feats but gaining proficiency in dex, con, or wisdom can be useful and if you don't need two ability points it can be efficient in that regard. But asi is generally better in most circumstance.

Technically, and outside of the niche cases described by Mintharafag above, having 17 DEX is slightly better than having 16 DEX, because the higher DEX is used to tie-break Initiative rolls. At least, that's the theory. The game seems inconsistent in handling Initiative ties and appears to favor the player, making odd DEX scores redundant.

I get the impression that someone at Larian really hated VIconia. People make fun of her, her family, she fails at everything, is the big bad guy of Shart's story, yet is also simultaneously just a stooge. It's like someone was on a mission to portray her tin the worst way possible.

And it's actually interesting to me that they did it in a way that betrays one of her previous core character traits. Before she joins the party, Viccy became an exile from Lolth when she refused orders that were too dastardly for her and they murdered her brother. One of her motivations was "maybe being a mindless stooge of an evil god who doesn't even value you...is a bad thing", and here she is in bg3 being the stooge of an evil god who doesn't value her followers and often pranks them by abandoning them in the fugue plane as a final lesson on loss. So Viccy just...forgot that she doesn't want to be a mindless stooge. So whoever at Larian hates her and wanted to drag her through as much mud as possible for some reason even made her betray herself. I wonder what she did to that writer, and which writer it was.

It's also interesting that Viccy had no happy endings. Her romance ending featured her being assassinated by Lolth. She can never catch a break. Which is a shame since she's a pretty interesting character, and her romance was very unique among crpg romances since she tries to drive you away, rather than the usual everyone jumps at the chance to date the MC.

I wouldn't be so quick to put all of the blame on Larian - we'll never know to what extent WotC was involved in forcing the inclusion of returning characters. Jaheira and Minsc were always the good guys, so following up on their heroic characterization is simple enough. But canonizing the redemption of evil characters - let alone an "evil" drow - is a tall order. From a corporate perspective, such a character could overshadow the likes of Liriel Baenre, another reformed Lolthite.

So what came first, the concept of Shadowheart as a cleric of Shar who could then be linked to a character from BG2, or the other way around? Of course, none of this excuses retcons or the character assassination we ended up with, but it is what it is. It's fair to assume that not every good ending for your favorite companions in BG3 will become canon. But that's okay, because we can appreciate it as a standalone story instead of worrying about how much WotC might butcher the characters in the future. That's how I rationalize liking both BG2 and BG3.

That's not definitive proof. It could have been a placeholder. Komira used to be called Marricko. The Dead Three's Chosen used regular models. The Nightsong was presumably a Sharran boss. A lot of things were still subject to change, but whether the concepts themselves were finalized is another matter. Update on Horny Wyll. I've moved to the Rosymorn map area and I got a forced long rest. Karlach had an exclamation preventing me from long resting, and when interacted with acted like Wyll chose the horny life for her sake. Mizora was just hanging out next to her, and Wyll was out of the box in the camp chest, alive and noticeably unhorned. After speaking to Karlach I long rested, and at the start of the new day Wyll is still human and Mizora is still here. I killed Wyll and put him back into the box. I'll report back when I actually get to Act 2.

Im looking to replay BG3 soon-ish as its been some time since patch 8 and that probably gave time for some good mods to surface, but I have a question
Which modding method is the "better" one? Mod manager+nexusmods or the built-in mod browser? Or are you supposed to be use both at the same time?
Asking because so far I have seen that both methods lack some mods the other has, and Im mostly looking for mods that add some fun or unique classes(like red mage and artificer), new gear, must also spice up the combat with more/stronger enemies to balance potentially broken class combos

Araj would stick around for blood samples and Aradin would stick around if you paid him. It would be cool to have to actually pay him and you could negotiate rates with persuasion, and Araj coming up with new potions each long rest would be a cool mechanic. Araj is no fighter and would be a glorified camp follower at best, so nothing would really change except saving the trip to her shop. I guess you could headcanon her as an Artificer (Alchemist), but she doesn't strike me as someone who'd risk her skin. By that point, the group has defeated an apostle of a god of death and doesn't need to negotiate rates with some two-bit loser like Aradin who runs from goblins and whose job is to job. The game probably needed fewer companions, not additions or replacements. I'd remove Minsc too - he's too late in the story for me to care, and he's also just nostalgia bait that adds little.
