YES, the entire ethics system, in fact, does not work as advertised. Ethics "shifts" that pretty much always tale longer than most games, especially when people generally end games quicker than they might have, due to lag, simply aren't "shifts". Personally, I'm guessing that PDX nerfed it into oblviion, because they couldn't (or wouldn't) properly fix it. Yet it still has in-game effects, even though the tools to manage it properly have largely been taken from you...

Nor will claiming the in-game text is sufficient fly *at all*. That, in fact, is the exact reason this thread exists. My new playthrough begins anew for a new time

Decided this time to write everything in Obsidian. I'll be posting updates occasionally. I'm gonna try to create a story as I go. Using the events that happen, locations, lore, etc.

First settlement was easy, obviously. I have to start at the lowest difficulty to satisfy my own autism. This playthrough im aiming for 100% win rate with no deaths.

Well, my run is fucking dead
Basically I'm in the sneeded forest and the game decided to spawn literally the hardest event right next to me. I have no way to complete this without someone dying. Basically I have to choose between sacrificing a villager or letting 10 die and losing the village and cycle. It's fucking ridiculous that I got a dark gate right now. The absolute worst possible time. I could have completed it without a sacrifice if I hadn't sold some valuable resources earlier, but I was being fucking dumb. My short sightedness is about to get somebody killed. My original goal was to play the entire thing through with nobody dying. That shit is dead in the water now, man. I didn't even complete a full cycle before this shit went tits up. I'm very upset. I think I can work this into my emergent narrative, thoughbeit. Basically, in my headcanon, the first seal is a training run with another Viceory overseeing my own, who makes the ultimate decisions, so it's actually this other Viceroy that is forcing the sacrifice in order to teach mine the lesson.
I have no choice now unless I want to restart the entire fucking game AGAIN. I guess I'll wait for the next dlc, if there is one, to do a no deaths run :(

Getting back into Stellaris and I genuinely don't know how I'm supposed to be managing planets now. Am I supposed to hold back on mass colonies, or hold back on building stuff on colonies? There's the basic province buildings you slap down as city growth expands borders, like farms and quarries
Unique province buildings are one per city, some rare cases do have one per empire. You unlock most of them automatically when you open up a new tome. They're better than your regular province buildings, and can arrange them for big bonuses, kinda like Civ6? Sometimes it requires some rearranging, you can always replace provinces with different stuff to rotate everything to how you want it given enough production or time

I finally beaten Grexolis after 3 tries. Just took me all day. I turtle endless waves of angelic orc with steadfast until I can teleport out, snipe the other lords and recall back to defend. I was wondering why I had never ever seen it lead anywhere in any run. If it has to scan 20 colonies then you'll hit default victory year before seeing the end result. You could easily have 10 colonies of your own at the event start year, meaning the end-game crisis will happen before it even finishes scanning you.

Bats are incredibly difficult to handle when you first unlock them. Them not being able to be favored and not having any work comforts really hampers them
I havent unlocked the manorial court yet, which is, I think, where they become viable. They get resolve bonuses for staying when the two other species leave or die, so theoretically exhiling the other species will buff their resolve greatly. But when you first get them, they're more likely to be the first to leave as they have no way to actually be happy enough to stay during the storm or if there's a lack of food. I didn't think there would be a species harder to care for than harpies, but here we are. On top of all of that, if you dont have a copper set up, they're basically useless, as their only proficiency is metallurgy. Other species either have a main one and secondary one, or they substitute with comfort prefrences so they can help with resolve. Bats are a drain on your town if you dont have a copper mine. I made the mistake recently of taking bats to the royal woodlands. Worst fucking settlement I've ever built holy shit it was brutal

That giant faggot on the right will break and no longer let you interact with his menu. If you try to move him, he'll get locked and you won't be able to click on buildings anymore. This is a pretty early Seal, so it's not that difficult. I impose arbitrary limitations on myself to make it harder, like not losing any settlements at all and not allowing any villagers to die. I increase the difficulty every few towns. By the middle/end of the game it gets pretty difficult to manage. The hardest challenge is an separate ironman mode which you unlock after, which I'll be atempting again after this full run is complete probably. I've only completed it once out of about 7 or 8 attempts

Some quick tips for you
>pay attention to the grid and the size of buildings. 3 2x2 buildings look better when they're next to eachother compared to 1 2x2 and 1 3x3 and 1 2x3
>pay attention to the entrances of buildings. Practically speaking it's not that important, they can still get in, it just takes a bit longer to squeeze through areas, but it looks nicer when every door is available
>space things out a bit with roads. No reason to have 16 human houses all scrunched up together. It doesn't look nice because it looks like the rain would end up pooling on the roofs. Instead do 12 houses with a space inbetween
>pay attention to building types and try to group them so they fit in their little mini districts
>don't bother cluttering your hearth with production buildings. Having them just outside the range looks nicer and gives you more room for decoration and housing
>try to keep the last node charges of resources if theyre in good spots that arent in the way of your planned roads or buildings. I specifically try to keep every pond by preventing them from taking the last few fish or whatever is in there. Just move the fishing hut away and you can keep the pond while collecting 99% of the resources! This looks especially nice when you can build houses or decor all around it

The devs seem to be finished with the game as they're now calling it "the complete edition" and removes the roadmap and suggestions website. This means there is probably no hope at all for bears to be added as a new species, for a zen mode, or any kind of significant future updates. I've put more than 1k hours into it, but if there is nothing new coming, idk man. I'm just kinda sad now
