I need only the smartest, best paid ideaguys to come up with ways to properly visualize and teach the player all of these mechanics (or ways to make the gameplay itself better):

>Start: Ghost possesses a random object in range
>Player enters radius: Radius appears, ghost chases and attacks player
>Ghost attack: Applies a debuff that slows you down to zero then damages you proper after a second or so
>Both static objects and guns can be possessed, guns start shooting at you when possessed
>Some objects like graves and guns are not normally damageable by melee until they are possessed (this is to avoid players just bulldozing through the graveyard with a bat)
>Ghosts can even possess guns you are currently holding, in which case you have to throw the gun then damage it to remove the ghost
>When you destroy a possessed item, the ghost is stunned for a second, then has a 50% (100% the second time) chance of either possessing another item in range or turning on kamikaze mode
>Ghosts are not hittable unless in stun or kamikaze mode
>In kamikaze mode, the ghost is visible and explodes in your face

Gui sliders are a good idea. I've done that kind of thing in my non /agdg/ stuff. I'm more interested in running full scripts than individually putting those lines in, but I wanted to do a test.

I want to use something like clay with Vulkan as a backend at some point.

> I feel like seeing you type "set-scale" so slowly just to change the scale of the cube

Thats why I was bummed I couldn't get a robust and easy autocomplete system going.
The Geiser mode's autocomplete is bugged and scheme mode isn't grabbing everything (stuff I type out in files but not files I load).

I might just write a macro that stores keywords and defined things into a trie, and just autocomplete manually from the interpreter.

From what I can see and read, I'm not sure the whole visible radius is necessary, since the ghosts attack you immediately and can't be hurt when you don't see them.

>Ghosts can even possess guns you are currently holding, in which case you have to throw the gun then damage it to remove the ghost
Genuienly, is this fun? It doesn't seem so, but I can't tell without playing

>>533580347
>they try to kill you and you try to kill them
>you need to kill all enemies to win
So do you need to go and clean out the level room by room or what? Are the ghosts the only type of enemy?

If the game is linear then it seems clear that you can make one room only filled with graves, then one filled with guns, then with everything that ghosts can possess.

Also, go easier with the effects. We can see that your pixel art is nothing special, you're not hiding it, but the gameplay is much less legible.

Honestly, the problem with indie games using the anime style is that it doesn't feel genuine.
Some devs try to copy the "feel" of the anime artstyle, but aesthetics-wise it's closer to a stupid CalArts cartoon.
And while some can get the artstyle right, it's usually on the writing that 99% of these games fall flat.
It's especially annoying when you actually play one of these games and the writing doesn't match up with the visuals shown. In those cases there's no reason to use anime, but they still do.
Ultimately, I guess it comes down to things feeling more "western" even though they're aping a "eastern" style.

Never again, I made a puzzle game once and it was horrible. It was back when greenlight was a thing and it got green lit and the game was BAD. It sold a lot because people liked making fun of it on youtube but once it stopped selling and the money was gone I was left with a horrible shit stain on my portfolio, a week before I was going to get it removed from steam some publisher who just buys random games from people offered me money for it and I got to unload it. Sometimes learning what does not work is just as important.

>Genuienly, is this fun?
I think it's fun in a conceptual way, I like being surprised by gimmicks in games that make me act in different ways. A ghost taking over your gun and shooting you with it is like that scene in the evil dead with the possessed hand, but what is happening needs to be clear.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hV_dgZ7yD-M

>So do you need to go and clean out the level room by room or what?
Yeah pretty much, there are gates between areas in a level and they open once you clear the room, they're usually designed as whole encounters mixing up enemies and layouts in different ways but nothing too fancy because I just want players having fun killing stuff without thinking too hard.

3 minutes of gameplay from today. I'm making a 2D top down crime sandbox as a second project to work on when bored of my first project. This one's still pretty fresh in development but I probably spent like 4 hours today just dicking around robbing stores and going on killing sprees and shit in between development. Plenty of features already like hunting/fishing, gang hideouts, 6 different weapons, a couple of small heists, and buyable businesses/homes/weapon storage

LMMS is nice, and can get the job done as long as you expect some chiptune or simpler quality.

https://lmms.bandcamp.com/album/the-best-of-lmms-vol-9

There are people that can do magic with LMMS.
But I think the advantage of FLStudio is that is easier because it has a lot of presets, meanwhile you have to know more about production to use LMMS at the same level as FLSTudio.

Haven't tried ardour, but it seems more feature complete than LMMS.

7,500 books are released on Amazon every single day vs just 100 games released on Steam. Video games are multiple orders of magnitude more difficult and time consuming to make than a book. I think an important nuance here is that the game shouldnt tell you outright which one is the best (Like some roguelikes do where the best one is the rarest), but rather, the answer for what you should go for should be answered by the items you already have and the direction you want to take with your build

It depends on how much custom stuff you build / how Brigador-like you want to be exactly.
If you build "Brigador but everything is actually 3D," it will be easy in Godot, but not have the classic look obviously. (It will probably look like shit. Because you need to use rather low-poly assets to be able to zoom out far enough. Not really Godot’s fault though.)
If you try to mimic the 2D style they did, it will be hard no matter which tech you use. They pulled a lot of tricks there that weren’t even done in the 90’s. No idea if it will destroy anything in Godot, but I doubt Godot will be very helpful either.

I am disappointed in Jon's answer. He should have asked: "How much does each shrimp weigh on average?". And if the average shrimp then weighed 1 gram in Earth's surface gravity, then he should have done some quick math and determined that the 10^100 shrimps would have a mass of 10^97 kg. While the Sun has a mass of 2*10^30 kg.
Thus, to save all life on planet Earth, he should first ask where the shrimp are distributed, and if a danger to Earth or elsewhere, then wish for the shrimp to be gotten rid of in a way that does not endanger life on earth or elsewhere, neither now nor later.

I have thought about a wizard game for about a year and I can't really conceptualize how to capture the essance of autistic magic user.

All I ended up with was a tactical real-time-with-pause arena dueling where you can target incoming spells with your spells and maybe add deckbuilder elements on top... But you could reskinned that as not wizards and it probably wouldn't make a difference.

A wizard game probably needs to be something where you can design and build your spells like a manufacturing line in Factorio and then use them in the world somehow. Noita does well with its wand crafting system and there don't seem to be any upper limits to your power in that game short of making the game crash

You need to play more JRPG and turn based games anon.

What you need is to make it closer to a turn based tactical game like FFTA.

You need to separate the action of movement from the action of spell casting.

I've finally learned enough where I can theoretically explain how the sound design on this song and production works.

Doesn't mean I can make this, but I've went from not having a clue, to oh, that sounds like an enveloped of a pad mixed with a present of a percussive noise layered, and then a woobly LFO to imitate a growl, and then a riser with a drop made from a sidechain automation to the velocity of the master, mixed with a high pass automation while a reverse crash does the build up.

While I can't make this level yet, It's great to go from WTF, this is magic, to understanding how theoretically can be made.

I still don't understand why blender has objects as separate from mesh data, an object can only contain a single mesh so what's the fucking point of putting them in a hierarchy?. And then godot goes and implements this bullshit that bloats the scene tree for no reason, every mesh needs to be inside a mesh instance container, but a meshinstance container can only hold a single mesh. Collisionshape containers can only contain a single collision mesh, audiostream players can only contain a single sound file etc. Why have fucking containers for everything??

Then you go an import shit from blender to godot only to find that the name you named the object only applies to the container while the mesh is still fucking called the default cube. It's fucking nonsense.

Assume a short crpg, 15 hours perhaps, single dungeon setting, What would be the best way to make a class/skill/progression system? I want to give the player a modicum of choice, but since the game is relatively short there is no need for complex progression.

For a 15-hour dungeon CRPG, keep the progression simple but impactful. Use 3–4 broad classes with 3–5 meaningful abilities each, unlocked over key milestones like boss fights or dungeon levels. Avoid complex stat systemsβ€”use a few core stats and let gear and perks modify them. Give players 1 ability or perk per level (around 5–6 levels total), making each choice count. Optional traits or randomized ability picks can add variety without complicating things.

That's the idea, but I want to make it more like an actual game with difficulty and challenges. More to come in the future, next step is a map and a course to drive the truck around in.

Forgot to say but also to meet the needs and expectations of trans gamers in a short dungeon CRPG, focus on offering meaningful character customization and identity expression without relying on binary class or gender systems. Let players choose their name, pronouns, and appearance independently of class or stats. Avoid gendered mechanics or aesthetics tied to classesβ€”design them around playstyle instead (e.g., stealth vs. magic), allowing flexibility and self-expression. Include inclusive dialogue and NPC interactions that respect the player’s choices. Keep progression lightβ€”about 5–6 meaningful upgrades like abilities or perksβ€”while ensuring players feel represented and seen through thoughtful narrative and character design.

Imagine a CRPG where your β€œchud” character starts as a gruff mercenary who dismisses refugees as freeloaders. Over time, the game shows scenes of families fleeing war, struggling to survive, and risking everything. You don’t hear long speeches, but through side quests you see the refugees’ sacrifices and fears. Your mercenary slowly changes as they share hardships, gradually realizing these people aren’t so different from themselves. The player feels this change happen through gameplay and storytelling, not lectures.

This approach draws players in, inviting empathy as a natural, earned part of the journey.

Yeah they would, there's a huge wave of nostalgia because the current world is too gay, people want to go back. And for those who don't, they don't give a fuck about what it is they're playing, as long as it's popular they'll play it.

An anon identified exactly what the market was like a few days ago, half the people exclusively play games to be social, which is why friend slop FOTM is so popular. And the other half want to play good games. Your 1MA production will never be able to compete with real games, it doesn't even hold up to free demos of real games as that youtuber was pointing out.
