Okay so I don't know anything about VR games ever since 2018 or something + 2020 Half-Life Alyx but what exactly is VRChat?
From my understanding it's essentially a virtual lobby where players meet with custom avatars and can organize events. It's also a primary platform for many VTubers.

But is it basically the Metaverse done right? Apparently there are lobbies for everything. From night clubs to restaurants to chill maps to (E)RP to even sleeping.

I probably sound like some boomer but I'm actually curious. I feel like such a platform would be much more popular. Is it because VR is a prohibitive barrier for entry? I'm fairly sure you can use it without VR but I suppose the experience is way different.

There are thousands of models and the 'reskins' is editing, not customization. They're taken to blender and modified.
Also VRC is 100% user content. It's not optimized and running it is hard. Running anything is hard at modern headset resolutions (you're basically trying to run a game on two 4k monitors at once) and VRC is especially.

I see; I would have thought that since the game was released years ago, running it today would be easier, but since VR headsets are also more and more demanding, the optimization problem makes sense.
Maybe I'll build a desktop PC at some point, not sure. My main issue with VR is that it's an expensive thing that could easilybe wasted should I not enjoy the tech, which is why I haven't been going through with it so far.

Current best entry is quest 3, but you'd be okay with a pico 4 or a quest 3S as entry-level toe dipping tier. However good experiences are with good wifi routers so if you don't have a 6E router you'll probably be getting that too to make use of the headset properly. Unpolished, but is definitely inspired by vtol vr controlls and Vox and its good. You have a throttle on your left which is leg controll (forward/back/yaw) and seperately you controll the torso with the right joystick. Fine aim is in sniper screen zoomed in mode or head aim.

You buy mechs, mech upgrades, weapons using money you earn in matches, you unlock better mechs and weapons to buy as you level up. Seems to have deep enough radar simulation and survival measures, like ERA armor kits, smoke grenades etc. TTK unlike Vox is very short, but you also have module and armor damager. Additionally you can use repair drones and rearming/repair hangars on the map.

The game mode - capture points or kill enemy team. Rounds are short, so even with no respawns its ok. Single player is just the same maps with stationary mechs for practice, no ai.

Its right now VERY rough around the edges, performance not very good, but it shows enough mech autism and promise.

The only interesting number is the decode latency.
I looked at the source code, they don't really give a fuck about balls to the wall, performance over everything optimizations, std's are sprinkled and used generously throughout the code. They mostly care about just working everywhere.
You definitely can do a lot better if you streamline everything and optimize aggressively, simply because software encode/decodes removes biggest blackboxes from the whole pipeline.
And it's godsent for foveated too.

I know exactly how the encoder/decoder works, it's not optimized for our usecase, but it's not a problem. It's basically just jpeg2000. It's fine.
I'm talking about the app itself. There a lot more going on than just decode.
Wired connection with software encode/decode should be able to beat wired link, so think sub 30ms, with better picture quality.

It's sucks that we don't have proper eye, if only vispro wasn't cucked by apple with arbitrary restrictions, wireless streaming would be basically solved today. 1gig is more than enough for 4:4:4 at panel resolution if you have proper foveated.

It was pc to a deck, deck is not a tiler, it has a proper gpu.

On a model, does anyone know how you would retain as much of an existing UV map as possible while rebuilding topology?

I'm replacing some shitty thighs/knee on a model that book looked bad and were weighted poorly. Most I can think of doing is just selecting the edge loops anove and under the section I'm reworking, and set them as pinned to unwrap the new shit from, since they're all part of the same island. I'm not familiar with any other methods.
