Falcom are just too lazy to organically write the character development into the story anymore so they shove everything into bond events because they're easier for them to write because they basically all take place in a bubble dimension where the laws of continuity or setting don't have to matter. Like they don't have to come up with a reason why a character would react to something or give them a reason to visit a certain place because in a bond event you can just freeze time and have Van and x character just teleport wherever you need them to be for the scene to work. I thought le curse and "Osborne is actually a saint despite killing, displacing and destabilizing people and their governments" in CS4 was a pretty shit justification for what the Sky cast and others went through, but even still to me the Civil War was handled way worse and for something with like 4 games of build up it ended up being horrible.

I think Rufus' motivations are explained well enough in 4 and Reverie is him reflecting on who he was and who he now wants to be. I think it does give more insight into how Lechter and Claire deal with the weight of their consequences , and it also shows Lechter was willing to kill Osborne should he ever stray from his path.

But for the most part I see CS4 and Reverie separately.

I enjoy talking to NPCs, but Kai had an extremely shit pacing due to routes. I really like van and co. but anyone can see he's route is extremely bloated and ruins the pacing. The prologue was great tho and I enjoyed night date segment with Jolda. I also really like van solo segments in kuro 1 when he's on a night patrols.
I hope falcom will reduce the amount of bloat and goes back to van being solo mc, because this is just ridiculous and I don't understand how falcom doesn't see the problem with the route approach in kai.

I only play the game when I feel like reading, so no, I never feel like speeding through stuff. I do skim some NPC's dialogues if I have a feeling they won't say anything in particular, but I definitely don't skim side quest dialogue, or the main story.
Plus, the writing and the order in which things are presented to you are well-structured enough that it should help your general comprehension of what's happening even if you skip some stuff.
