Doom 1 is better then Doom 2 mostly in a level design way. Doom 2's existence mostly just comes down to introducing the Super Shotgun and the new enemy types.
And personally I think they can stand toe to toe with each other. Deltarune's combat is -way- better/more refined then Undertale's though and has a better generic battle theme, plus the story is much grander. You can tell that Undertale overall was basically Deltarune's prototype that still became an all timer game.
