New RS player coming from WoW, Picking Ironman was a great choice

Started a month ago (29 jun) and a couple of days ago I got my first dragon assignment from Konar to kill 39 bronze dragons. I got very lucky with a plateskirt dropping halfway through the kills.

7/12/25: It's been almost 3 months since posting this video, so here's an update. When I first decided to quit the game, I did become happier. But that happiness was nothing compared to the happiness I got a couple weeks after finishing this video, deleting my accounts, and cutting out the last OSRS creators I followed. I thought I had been free, but I wasn't until then. Afterwards, I just kept noticing how happy I felt. It was like I was taking pills. The weight really was lifted.

When people talk about quitting bad habits, they make it sound like magic, where suddenly their life totally changes and they have the motivation to improve everything. I get it now, and it's not magic. The part of my brain that was always preoccupied with OSRS now finally had room to breathe. This new capacity had to be filled with something else, and it had to be something non-addictive this time. Also, my brain needed to replace the sense of progress that OSRS brought, even the sense it got just from watching others play. So naturally, I slowly changed. I started working out again after I had taken a long break, and I'm finally taking weight gain seriously (I'm barely above underweight). I did a lot of cleaning and knocked off things on my to-do list that I had been putting off for a long time. I also started learning Android development and game development. I have a dream to retire early from my software development job in a few years and make my own apps and games instead, so now I'm laying the groundwork for that. You can see how these all tie into making incremental progress, so I do think OSRS might've suppressed/replaced that drive, for me at least. Instead of leveling up my character, I'm just leveling up myself. To be clear, I'm still playing some other non-MMO games. They don't affect me like OSRS did.

There are still some minor downsides though. I started to have infrequent recurring dreams where I'm playing again and feeling remorse for relapsing. In one dream, a JMod even PM'd me asking why I was playing again, and I didn't know what to say. Also, just about every day, I get these "visions" that pop into my head for just a second, where I can perfectly see myself playing OSRS. Like, I vividly see my character running around a nostalgic place like Hemenster. I'm not sure what causes this or if it'll ever go away. Lastly, people were partially right that I would just spend more time on social media instead. I'm trying to be more conscious of that and cut back on it, or at least I'll do it while I'm eating and working towards my weight gain goal so it doesn't feel like wasted time.

I might provide another update if things change more in the future. I'll just say for now that I have no regrets.

I fail to see how projectiles being invisible when under the boss (essentially guaranteeing you getting hit if it happens on later waves where you only have 1 tick to react) or the melee punish mechanic disappearing and being replaced by the blue shield mechanic (just to use 2 examples) is a "personal opinion" on a design flaw.

I have been a full stack software engineer for 10 years and based on your first comment, you barely understand the role of a QA analyst. The content is more complex than it was 5-10 years ago, yes, but that doesn't change the fact that some design flaws should not be making it past testing. I would be more lenient if it was the kind of issue that happens once every 10-15 KC that is a bit harder to spot, but some of the stuff I've listed happens at least once per run.

Your replies give off the impression that you've never fought the boss or are pretty new to OSRS. It is very obvious that a lot of the mechanics were not intended, hence why they're being addressed by jmods and why there are upcoming fixes for them. Mechanics that don't add to the fight in any way and hurts the user experience are objective design flaws. There's nothing subjective about it.

He would be some kind of zamorak guy and at some point he snuffs out all the candles in the room you fight him in, causing your prayer to be rapidly drained unless your gear is at a certain prayer bonus threshold. You have to do this because he will two shot you without protection prayers and he takes reduced damage until you light all the candles again.

I called for attacker role since I figured teams would have 2 and the other guy would carry, and there was too much competition for collector. I got drafted as the sole attacker for a team and all the waves would end with the other 4 waiting for me to finish my mobs. We got to wave 9 before the damage become too much to handle. The collector started making snide remarks like "this is a waste of time", not directed at me but we all know who he was talking about. Eventually the team decided to call it a lose and move on. I feel responsible. I guess I will do my hard and elite diaries later hahaha.
