Wrong! Rune is playable without satan. Because Rune has a lot of tools to deal the enemy's board or play. Even without satan, Rune can be still deadly with the dclimb and enhanced Kuon. I had a match long ago against Rune with no satan as a ward haven. Here's the replay.

Rune feels worse to play against because Sword doesn't have any cheesy health cheats or combos. You either have an out to Zirc on turn 4, Yurius on turn 8 and Albert on turn 9 or you lose. You always have to play it out against Rune on the off-chance they brick but you can never tell because Rune doesn't even bother to try and win till 10pp when they just satan climb you to death from 20 health in a single turn.

sure, the game been through shitty meta and such, but big part of what killed it is monetization, believe it or not. Riot at that time was very proud of their title as the king of f2p games, or something. they literally limit how much you can spend at launch to take a jab at Valve's Artifact (yes this is real look it up). their entire design philosophy was f2p first, so LoR was never profitable since the start, but they didn't care and kept it going for years, and to be fair they were much more successful when people still give a shit about esport. the game also never came out in China so that was also a big hit to it.

nowadays they focus a lot more on actually making money. idk about Valorant, but LoL and TFT is filled with gacha cosmetics. technically LoR is not dead, and the PvE mode is now also filled with options to pay for faster progression. and their new TCG Riftbound is recycling arts from LoR so it's gonna be a free money printer.

Karula is garbage. You want to generate artifact tokens so you can get your gundam out turn 10. The reason portal is "bad" this expansion are people playing weird dumb shit trying to counter sword when all it does it make them fodder to Roach, Rune, and Chicken memes.

Artifact is pretty damn consistent. It's not bad because the deck itself is bad, it's bad because it just happens to have a bad match up against every top tier.
