Just beat FFIV DS. I feel like I would have enjoyed it more if I had used a guide for augments. It got a bit tiring after a certain point with how difficult it was. I'm a bit pissed we never got Golbez in our party as well and that it never really let itself be as dark as FF2 despite the aesthetic of the game being more grim.

I'd say it was an enjoyable experience overall, though I was really looking forward to finishing it so I could play FFV since I'm going through them all in order.

Anyway, I'm enjoying FFV a lot. The lighter tone makes it feel like a fun filled fantasy adventure and I love finally being able to use a blue mage. I'm 10 hours in and I think I can pretty much say this cast is my favorite thus far. The plot seems to be going at a breakneck speed though.

I did feel like once you beat the Dominant you should have gotten the Eikon's power as a weapon. I finished FF16 last night and I'm still very confused by the ending. Specifically why anything happened the way it did at all. All Ultima had to do was wake up once every two hundred years or so and be like "This is the true religion, follow this path", but instead he didn't? Even after having dealt with the Fallen and having had to blow up the mother crystal that was in Dzemekys? At that point Ultima should have realized his plan wasn't exactly working out the way he intended. The game makes it seem like Ultima woke up and was surprised that people suddenly had willpower, but like I said he had to deal with the Fallen. But even after that, apparently he was able to keep his religion going on Ash but not on Storm? Even if the people rose up against Ultima why didn't he just mind whammy/groom all the Dominants when they were young to crush the people? It just seems like for such an important part of The Plan, Ultima just let shit fall where they wanted and then got pissy about it? Also what was the point of the after credit scene with the book? A lot of the Ultima stuff feels oddly underdeveloped for being what the entire plot hinges on. The game is a bit wishy-washy on exactly how much power and awarenesss the Ultima Collective have pre-final battle. They're seemingly aware of everything going on outside their Mothercrystals/Origin, yet for some reason they don't anticipate Mythos being a normal human with willpower and friends after having seemingly watched humanity's entire history. You'd think they'd be more prepared to deal with his will and "threads of consciousness", but instead it seems like only just now, during the game's events, do they try coming up with plans to ensure Clive will be a suitable vessel. It makes Ultima come off as a lot less threatening than the game clearly wants him to be when his plans suck so bad.

What's the general consensus on XVI? I've just gotten to the quest The Crystals' Curse and I'm almost on the verge of dropping it. The game looks great and the story is pretty interesting with some fun boss fights, but man does the combat get old and suck when fighting all the trash over and over again. Seems like I'm a third of the way through the game (or less) and I don't know if I'm motivated enough to keep going. Despite being interested in the plot, the cutscenes feel like they keep going and going just to reward me with either a lot of walking or a lot of trash mobs to lead into more long cutscenes.

I too have a confession. The fugly tranny Qunari was absolutely god damned disgusting, and they completely ruined their own jobs/livelihoods and the unique appeal of their IP by throwing in brain dead modern day lingo and DEI bullshit. But still, the game was mostly inoffensive to play, had some good moments and memorable setpiece sequences. It could have been a genuinely good game in the eyes of the public if it just had White men who like sexy women in charge of it (Dreadwolf) instead of the ugly women/trannies/DEI hires that ended up making it. I didn't hate playing, because there was still good art, clicky and simple beat em up action, and I enjoyed most of the party members questlines (Emmerich was excellent) as well as the very well produced ending to the game. Veilguard was 7/10 ish in a good way, and I think clearly influenced a touch by modern cinematic corridor JRPG's from SE. I don't hate it, but it completely failed to do what it needed to.
