I agree mostly. UIM is not such a bad idea, it just needed more work before being vomited into the game. The fact that workarounds like death piling and loot bags became the meta is shit. Death storage is another shitty thing that turns the mode into banking with more steps.

It could genuinely be a fun and accessible game mode with no retarded mechanic exploitation if it was built that way from the beginning. POH storage being the biggest, have actual storage slots for all major armour pieces. Weapon racks for certain gear. Allow use of things like the seed vault, potion storage. The patchnotes imply its supposed to be more restrictive and difficult. It's actually less restrictive and less difficult because you can't bank 200 items in a grave for an hour. But it has the tax of being extremely tedious and expediting those real world wrist injuries. Further, apparently the original 60 minute timer didn't pause on logout. Guess that was deemed too restrictive.

Yes, UIM is notorious for being a pain in the ass to change activities on. It's part of the game mode.

Do you know that thing you do where you plan different steps on your account? "Do WGS -> Kill TDs -> Get demonbane weapon -> Kill Yama" or whatever.
UIM is that, but on steroids. The extremely limited space (and annoyance of excessive inventory management) forces you to plan so much more, and completely changes how you value items. Once you truly understand UIM, you realise that it's not about "lol no bank XDD", it's truly a different game mode.

Looting bags, deathpiling, deathbanking, POH storage, etc. all ties into that, and aren't a form of cheating. Maybe that's not how it was originally intended, and kind of happened by accident, but that's the UIM we live with.

Even if you consider deathbanking as a bank (which is REALLY fucking isn't), you can still only carry 27 (inventory) + 28 (looting bag) + 11 (equipped items) + some extras for shit like seed box, rune pouch etc., which is far, far, FAR less than a normal ironman's bank. UIMs don't "want" seed storage or potion storage, that shit is taking it too far and undermining the integrity of the game mode. We go on about saving a single inventory space for some shit, and it's a big deal when they add something which gives us that, then that's going ahead and giving us like 50.

Yes but the massive pain in the ass 'spergers aspects of UIM mean it is a mode only played by spergs. The core concept behind it is actually pretty good. You shouldn't be getting a megarare and then always have that worry in the back of your mind that a single fuckup of an hour timer could mean losing it, played over potentially tens of thousands of hours. UIM was incredibly undercooked when released and nothing will change that now because so many UIM's have progressed and would hate change. All that to say the mode is completely dead to me and I tolerate UIMs like I tolerate the existence of retards who play with self imposed restrictions like chunk locking or level 3 skilling.

It's still way less punishing than HCIM is, at least if you're someone who considers the red helm a critical aspect of it (i.e. reroll on death).
UIM Loki losing his shit was a big oof, but it was his fault at the end of the day. There are plugins to properly manage/track your deathpiles, which it really didn't look like he was using. It's also part of the "risk" of having so many fucking deathpiles. When I was doing my voidwaker grind, I seriously got annoyed having more than like 3, and I'd periodically go through coalescing them and cleaning them up.

Yeah, when you learn of all of the shit that's changed since then, it really was a mess. You didn't use to drop untradeables on death, so e.g. if you had a defender, going to Entrana was a serious issue.

The fact that there's so many comments on reddit roasting him proves that what he's saying is true. The high level PvM community doesn't get good updates that satisfies their need for mechanical complexity. I've always said that Tombs of Amascut is brain dead easy and the invocations only make the bosses take less damage not make them interesting.

It's important to remember that people like me and people like gnomonkey take a lot of pride in their accounts and achievements, and we have sunk 10k or more hours into it. We aren't going to stop asking for new challenging content. Nobody is claiming to want content only elite pvm players can do. Gnomonkeys favorite piece of content is tob. Most people can learn tob in a day.

Mechanical complexity means a basically limitless skill ceiling. You can continue to improve and theorycraft new ways to do a piece of content faster and more efficiently. Tombs of amascut has a brick wall for a skill ceiling. Right up until you learn redx and butterfly. That's it.

I think Gnome is doing a great job brining attention to the fact that the best players in the game are lacking exciting new content. It's probably pointless discussing anything on reddit because the comments will be painfully brainless as usual, but I think its important that all players get content they enjoy. Nobody is claiming you can't enjoy toa, it's just not mechanically complex or fun to me. Neither is godwars. And it's frustrating to players who really do enjoy mechanically hard content.
