Their goal is to draw people back to the game, it's probably gonna be a big grind. Personally I am excited for that but I understand my autistic enjoyment of mindless grinds is not common. That being said even I have my limits and it was fucking artians for a couple reasons:
>Artian weapons don't do anything fun like zoh/lagia/steve/mizu/etc weapons
>Artian grind is functionally meaningless, the difference between a perfect roll and a sub-perfect one being so minor you won't even notice it
The talisman grind isn't being poised to make these same mistakes, so I'm looking forward to it. They probably took the same concepts after hearing that the portable team was doing them and tried to make their own versions independently, only to completely fuck them up because they're unironically just straight up inferior game designer compared to the portable team.

You cannot decide which direction you will get picked up, the timing is inconsistent cause this pile of shit needs to run to you while having collision IF it can pick you up in first place as it can take damage and be on ground somewhere. I'm thinking about dos and how they had this whole seasonal thing that affected which maps you could go to and which monsters showed up where and a bunch of other stuff but ultimately none of it mattered because you could just spend money to sleep until the next season (at least offline). It just really recontextualizes some of the design decisions in wilds. So much effort spent on a bunch of wilds mechanics that can ultimately just be ignored or bypassed because they felt they needed to include a way to bypass them. It's very strange design. There are so many mainline design decisions that make you ask "why"? Like the rotating quests in 4U. I get that they wanted to preserve that kind of quest from the previous mainline games but it just lead to people using the potion quest to cycle quests in seconds totally bypassing that meme shit. I can at least respect third gen mainline for saying "no fuck you engage with underwater you can't bypass this" but even then in 3U they added a bunch of non water based monsters so it didn't matter in the end anyway. At this point it really does feel like mainline is just a testing ground for new ideas with no real thought put in

Well I explained that a bit. It seems like they design mainline games as actual simulations of the monhun world and then they add systems to bypass frustration (the so called "QOL" if you will). Now that I think about it that would explain tokuda's comment about the wilds maps just being "how they are in the monhun world". Like take dos for example they did all that work on the seasonal thing and then they realized "oh shit we're actually making a game and people will be pissed if they have to wait for seasons to pass so add and option to skip seasons. To them it's irrelevant that it totally ruins the game design because it's less of a game to them and more of a simulation. This also works if you think about wilds maps. So much time and so many resources wasted on the maps and then they add seikret autotaxi and grapple gather because they know people will get annoyed having to walk long distances. It totally ruins the game design but that's irrelevant to them. It's a simulation of the monhun world. I mean think about why you had to grill your own meat in the first place or why items were much more of a focus earlier on like baits and traps. I think they were just trying really hard to simulate this fantasy world as accurately as possible (remember being able to slice velociprey in half before that was removed for being too gory). I think the only reason portable shifted to be more game-like is because a portable system would be too weak to handle the kind of things they wanted to do with regard to simulation. It's ironic though because they ended up going to nintendo to chase money which likely held back their simulation desires for a while which is why world feels like such a jump. The bigger popularity of portable lead them to reconsider a lot but they ultimately seem intent on continuing that simulation mindset with mainline. Well they can't at this point. World players have made it really clear they value that QOL stuff a lot because any frustration at all is bad game design to them. I've talked about this before but it's hilarious how at odds the mainline team is with their own players. They want to make things more realistic but that means frustration which their players don't want. So they end up with this fucked kind of game design. I think it would be so much more interesting if instead of chasing story shit they delved deeper into what they likely wanted to do initially and focused more on realistic hunting techniques. Story stuff probably will get more sales though.
